DESCRIPTION

ROBERTS® 6399 is a very aggressive, high-tack transitional adhesive that installs like a pressure-sensitive adhesive but firms as it cures to form a permanent bond. ROBERTS 6399 can be used for wet-set or pressure-sensitive installations making it suitable for different installation needs across a wide array of resilient floor types and carpet tiles. ROBERTS 6399 offers excellent plasticizer, pH and moisture resistance to withstand extreme environmental conditions. With superior shear strength, ROBERTS 6399 will perform under heavy rolling loads and in all traffic conditions.

INSTRUCTIONS

Limitations

  • For interior installations only
  • Not intended for use as a moisture mitigation system, see the ooring manufacturer for any RH limitations for their respective products. Do not install in areas with known hydrostatic moisture problems or pH imbalances (pH tolerance 6-12)

Preparation

The concrete substrate must be dry (within the tested moisture tolerance of the flooring and adhesive product). Subfloors most be clean, structurally sound and within flat and level tolerance of the manufacturer. All substrates must be free of substances such as paints, oils, epoxies, old adhesive residues, etc. that might inhibit the bond of the adhesive or the performance of the flooring or its installation. All substrate cracks, chips, holes, joints or high spots must be adequately repaired. Patching compounds must be suitable for the use application, cement-based and polymer-modified, and applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Installation

Maintain a consistent temperature and ambient relative humidity before, during and after installation (between 65-85°F and 30-50% ambient RH). Follow all industry standards and the flooring manufacturer’s recommendations for floor flatness, acclimation, and application of flooring materials. Spread adhesive uniformly onto the substrate using a trowel (see trowel panel for recommendations). Adhesive trowel ridges should be well defi ned, consistent and achieve full coverage of the substrate. Observe the appropriate open time.

  • When installing over a porous substrate, place the flooring into semi-wet adhesive for a permanent bond or allow adhesive to dry and become tacky to the touch for a releasable bond.
  • When installing over a non-porous substrate, always allow adhesive to completely dry and become tacky before placing flooring. Once an adhesive field has reached the appropriate tack, install the floor covering into the adhesive field.
  • Roll the floor covering with a weighted roller per the manufacturer’s specific guidelines.
  • Post installation: Restrict moving of heavy objects for 24 hours.

Clean-up

  • Fresh adhesive – warm, soapy water on a clean cloth.
  • Dried adhesive – use mineral spirits sparingly with a clean, white cotton cloth. DO NOT POUR DIRECTLY ONTO FLOORING.

    • The shelf life of the product is 2 years from the date of manufacture when stored in the original unopened container in a controlled environment.

    • For residential use, no traffic (PSA) is recommended immediately after installation. For semi-wet applications, allow 12 hours before traffic. For commercial settings, wait 4 hours before allowing foot traffic.
