- Connect the power cable to the HD6 rear panel and plug into an AC outlet.

- Select "Audioengine HD6" to pair and connect. The Pair indicator should become solid.
- Play music and adjust volume on HD6 and your device.
- To add more devices, put HD6 back into pair mode by disconnecting or pressing and holding the Pair button until the indicator flashes.
- HD6 remembers up to six devices but connects to one at a time.
Wired Connection
- Connect an included audio cable (mini-jack or RCA) to your music player and the other end to an input on the HD6 rear panel.
- Play music and adjust volume on speakers and device.
Inputs and Volume Settings
Multiple sources can be connected simultaneously. Inputs are always active, allowing easy switching between devices like tablets, phones, and TVs.
For volume adjustment, set a level on the HD6 first, then use your device's volume control for the overall level. Experiment for best results.
Optical Input
The Toslink digital optical input accepts PCM stereo streams from sources like TVs, computers, media servers, DVD/Blu-ray players, or CD players. Do not connect HD6 speaker terminals directly to stereo receiver/amplifier outputs as the HD6 has built-in amplifiers.
Audioengine HD6 Rear Panel
The rear panel features the following:
- (1) Antenna: For wireless Bluetooth connection.
- (2) Pair Button: Initiates Bluetooth pairing mode.
- (3) Audio Input: Typically for 3.5mm mini-jack.
- (4) Optical In: TOSLINK digital optical input.
- (5) Audio Input: Typically for RCA.
- (6) Audio Output: Variable full-range preamp output for subwoofers or other systems.
- (7) Speaker Connector: Output to the right (passive) speaker.
- (8) Power Switch: Turns the unit on/off.
- (9) Voltage Select: For regional power compatibility (if applicable).
- (10) Fuse: Contains a fuse for protection.
- (11) AC Power Inlet: Connect the power cable here.
- (12) Power Indicator: Shows power status (e.g., slow pulse for sleep mode).
Break-in Period
Your HD6 speakers will sound great out of the box and improve with use. Allow 40-50 hours of break-in time for optimal critical listening.
Cleaning
Use only a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid solvents or cleaners on cabinets or speakers.
Remote Control
The remote control allows operation of the HD6 speakers.
Functions
- Mute: Silences the speakers. The front panel indicator blinks when muted. Mute can be cancelled by pressing Volume (+/-) or the front panel volume knob.
- Volume: Press Volume (+) or (-) to adjust the HD6 volume level.
- Sleep: Activates a power-saving sleep mode (indicated by a slow pulse of the front panel power indicator). Press Sleep again or the front panel volume knob to exit sleep mode.
Battery Replacement
If the remote is unresponsive, replace the battery. Insert a paper clip into the hole on the back of the remote to access the battery compartment.
Other Features
Variable Output
The HD6 features a variable full-range preamp audio output. This allows connection to a subwoofer, other Audioengine powered speakers, or wireless adapters. The output volume is adjustable via the HD6 front panel or remote control.
Stand Mounting
Threaded 1/4"x 20 brass inserts are located on the bottom of each speaker cabinet for attaching to floor stands. These inserts are not designed for single-point wall or ceiling mounts. Customers are responsible for ensuring stand stability and selecting appropriate mounting hardware. Audioengine disclaims liability for stand selection and hardware.
Speaker Placement
While HD6 speakers are forgiving, proper placement enhances sound quality. Experimentation is key, but general guidelines include:
- Place speakers equidistant from side walls and at different distances from rear walls.
- Position tweeters at eye-level for the primary listening location.
- Maintain at least 6 inches (15 cm) clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall behind them for best bass response.
- Ensure speakers are equidistant from the primary listening position.
- Placing speakers at least 6 feet (1.8m) apart typically provides the best imaging.
- Position speakers near the front edge of shelves or cabinets.
- If placing on their sides, position tweeters towards the outside.
- For desktop use, place on a solid surface.
