200 Undercounter Series

DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS

Kickplate

The kickplate, located at the bottom front of the unit, is designed to protect the sealed system components from damage, while allowing airflow to circulate around the sealed system area. Blockage of air vents in the kickplate will cause inefficient operation of the sealed system or possible unit failure. (See Figure 3-1)

Leveler Legs

The leveler legs are located underneath the unit. Unit leveling will ensure normal operation of the drainage and refrigeration system, and is necessary for the door to close properly. The leveler legs also allow a small amount of height adjustment for undercounter installations. (See Figure 3-2)

Door Closer Assembly

The 200 Undercounter Series has two different styles of door closers. The model 245RFD uses a mechanical cam system to aid in closing of the door. As the door is closed, the cam will take over at approximately the 15 degree position to assist in closing the door.

The 249 models use a spring-loaded door closure mechanism. When the door is within 15 degrees of closed position, the door closure engages to assist the door in closing and sealing. (See Figure 3-3)

Shelving

Model 245RFD shelving consists of a stationary one-piece glass shelf located in the upper refrigerated compartment. The main shelf assembly has a gasket on its front edge that seals against the door when it is closed for separating the two zones of the model 245RFD. (See Figure 3-4)

The 249 models have removable wire shelves. The wire shelves may be moved to alternate positions or removed as needed.

Door Gasket

Door gaskets provide an air seal for the refrigerated compartment. On the model 245, the door gasket is pressed into a groove on the door assembly. The gasket is easily removed for cleaning or replacement. (See Figure 3-5)

The door gasket on the 249 models is held in place by retaining bars that are bolted to the door frame. The gasket then folds over the retaining bars to hide the retaining bars and bolts.

Fan and Light Switches

The rocker-type fan and light switches on model 245RFD are located at the top of refrigerated compartment and are triggered by the opening and closing of the door. When the door is closed, the light switch turns off the lights; the fan switch turns on the evaporator fan. When the door is opened, the light switch turns the lights on; the fan switch interrupts evaporator fan operation. (See Figure 3-6)

The fan and light switches for model 249R, 249RP and model 249FF are plunger type switches located in front of the kickplate. The plunger switch is activated by an actuator bracket mounted on bottom of the door assembly. (See Figure 3-7 and Figure 3-8)

Lighting

All 200 Undercounter Series units are supplied with light fixtures which use a 25 watt light bulb. The locations vary for each model.

Control Panel and Setting Temperature

Although units are factory preset to maintain approximately 38°F (3°C) in the refrigerated compartment and approximately 0° (-18°C) in the freezer compartment, it may be desired to adjust the temperature settings. Adjustments are accomplished by turning the control knob, which is located on the control panel, to the desired number located on control panel. The higher the number the colder the temperature, with #1 being the warmest setting, and #7 being coldest. (See Figure 3-9)

Icemaker

Models 245RFD and 249FFI have an automatic icemaker installed in the freezer compartment. The icemaker is designed to produce an adequate supply of ice for normal family consumption. The length of time between ice harvests will vary depending on load conditions, door openings and ambient room temperatures. On average, a harvest every two hours can be expected. The level of ice in the ice bucket is controlled by an ice level arm. When the ice bucket is filled with ice, the ice level arm senses the level and interrupts ice production. As ice is used, the level arm drops allowing the resumption of ice production. Ice cubes, if kept over a period of time, will begin to sublimate, whereas they will stick together and shrink. To avoid this, the ice bucket should be emptied at least once a month.

Operation of the icemaker is automatic and requires only a connection to the house water supply. (See Figure 3-10)

Temperature Zones

Model 245

The model 245RFD features two temperature zones. The refrigerator zone on top and the freezer zone with icemaker at the bottom. The two temperature zones are maintained by one evaporator with an air duct that leads from the freezer zone to the refrigerator zone. An air baffle regulates cold air flow entering the refrigerator compartment. These zones are separated by a gasket on the stationary shelf that seals to a molded section of the door when it is closed. Each zone features a separate control panel for any needed temperature adjustments. (See Figure 3-11)

The model 245RFD is equipped with an automatic defrost cycle to prevent icing of the freezer compartment and for efficient operation of sealed system. During the defrost cycle an electric defrost heater is energized, melting the ice off of the evaporator coils. This melted ice, now water, runs into the drain pan on the unit tray where it then evaporates.

Model 249R

The model 249R features one refrigerated zone but has a freezer compartment and a refrigerator compartment. The freezer compartment is located in the uppermost section of the unit, with the remaining interior being the refrigerator compartment. (See Figure 3-12)

The evaporator is formed in a "C" shape to create the freezer compartment. This compartment features a small swing down door at the front. The control panel is located on the right hand side of the freezer compartment back wall. This control panel controls the temperature of the entire unit.

The model 249R is not equipped with an automatic defrost cycle. To manually defrost, turn the control knob to the off position, and allow built-up ice to melt into the drain pan below the freezer compartment. Then, carefully remove the drain pan and discard water.

Model 249RP

The model 249RP is an all refrigerator unit with one zone. (See Figure 3-13)

The control panel is located on the right side of the back wall just below the lower shelf assembly. Temperature adjustments can be made by rotating the control knob to the desired number on the control panel.

The model 249RP uses the off-cycle defrost method. Whenever low offset temperatures are achieved, the compressor switches off allowing the evaporator to defrosts. This melted ice, now water, runs into the drain pan on the unit tray where it then evaporates.

Model 249FF & 249FFI

The model 249FF is an all freezer unit with one temperature zone. It's control panel is located at the top right of the evaporator cover. Temperature adjustments can be made by rotating the control knob to the desired number on the control panel. (See Figure 3-14)

The model 249FF is equipped with an automatic defrost cycle to prevent icing of the freezer compartment and for efficient operation of sealed system. During the defrost cycle an electric defrost heater is energized, melting the ice off of the evaporator coils. This melted ice, now water, runs into the drain pan on the unit tray where it then evaporates.

Maintenance and Cleaning

To assure proper operation of the appliance, some basic Maintenance and cleaning must be done every three to six months, depending on use and living conditions.

General Cleaning

For general cleaning of the refrigerator and freezer interior surfaces and removable parts, wash with a mild solution of soap and water with a small amount of baking soda added. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid getting water on lights and/or control dial.

Condenser Cleaning

The condenser should be cleaned every three to six months.

To access the condenser, remove the kickplate at the base of the unit by removing the screws located at each side of the kickplate.

Use a soft bristle brush and vacuum hose to remove the accumulation of dust and lint particles on the condenser. (See Figure 3-15)

NOTE: Failure to properly clean this area could result in temperature loss and/or possible mechanical failure of the refrigerator and/or freezer.

CAUTION

For maintenance and cleaning, the circuit breaker to the appliance should be switched off and protective gloves worn.
