MOXA 6150-G2 Ethernet Secure Terminal Server
Package Checklist
- NPort 6150-G2 or NPort 6250-G2
- Power adapter (does not apply to -T models)
- 2 wall-mounting ears
- Quick installation guide (this guide)
NOTE Please notify your sales representative if any of the above items are missing or damaged.
For optional accessories, like power adapters for a wide-temperature environment or side-mounting kits, refer to the Accessories section in the datasheet.
NOTE The operating temperature of the power adapter (included in the package) is from 0 to 40°C. If your application is outside this range, use a power adapter supplied by an external UL Listed Power Supply (LPS), whose power output meets SELV and LPS and is rated at 12 to 48 VDC and minimum current 0.16 A and minimum Tma = 75°C.
Powering the Device
Unbox the device server and power it up using the power adapter provided in the box. The location of the DC outlet on the device server is indicated in the following figures:
If you are connecting the DC outlet to a DIN-rail power supply, you will need a separate power cable, CBL-PJ21NOPEN-BK-30 w/Nut, to convert the terminal block output to the DC outlet on the NPort.
If you are using a DIN-rail power supply or another vendor’s power adapter, ensure that the ground pin is properly connected. The ground pin must be connected with the chassis ground of the rack or the system.
After powering up the device, the Ready LED should turn solid Red first. After a couple of seconds, the Ready LED should turn solid Green, and you should hear a beep, which indicates that the device is ready. For detailed behavior of the LED indicators, see the LED Indicators section.
LED Indicators
LED | Color | LED Function | |
Ready | Red | Steady | Power is on and the NPort is booting up |
Blinking | Indicates an IP conflict or the DHCP or BOOTP server did not respond properly or a relay output occurred. Check the relay output first. If the Ready LED continues to blink after resolving the relay output, there may be an IP conflict or an issue with the DHCP or BOOTPserver response.
Green | Steady | Power is on and the NPort is functioning normally
Blinking | The device server has been located by the Administrator’s Location function
Off | Power is off, or a power error condition exists
LAN | Green | Steady | The ethernet cable is plugged in and the link-up |
Blinking | Ethernet port is transmitting/receiving
P1, P2 | Yellow | Serial port is receiving data
Green | Serial port transmits data
Off | No data is being transmitted or received through the serial port |
When the device is ready, connect an Ethernet cable to the NPort 6100-G2/6200-G2 directly with the computer’s Ethernet port or an Ethernet port of a switch.
Serial Ports
The NPort 6150 models come with 1 serial port while the NPort 6250 models have 2 serial ports. The serial ports come with DB9 male connectors and support RS-232/422/485. Refer to the following table for the pin assignments.
Pin | RS-232 | RS-422 4-wire RS-485 | 2-wire RS-485 |
1 | DCD | TxD-(A) | – |
2 | RXD | TxD+(B) | – |
3 | TXD | RxD+(B) | Data+(B) |
4 | DTR | RxD-(A) | Data-(A) |
5 | GND | GND | GND |
6 | DSR | – | – |
7 | RTS | – | – |
8 | CTS | – | – |
9 | – | – | – |
The serial cables for connecting the NPort 6100-G2/6200-G2 to a serial device can be purchased separately.
Software Installation
The default IP address of the NPort is 192.168.127.254. There is no default username or password. You will need to complete the following first-login process as part of the basic settings.
- Set up the first administrator’s account and password for your NPort.
- If you have exported configuration files from NPort 6100 or NPort 6200, you can import a configuration file to configure the settings.
If this is your first time to use an NPort, skip this step. - Configure the IP address, subnet mask, and network settings for the NPort.
- After applying the settings, the NPort will reboot.
Log in using the administrator’s account and password that you set up in step 1.
For details, please scan the QR Code. A video will guide you through the basic settings.

The NPort 6100-G2/6200-G2 device servers include a wall-mount kit in the box, which can be used to mount the NPort to a wall or the inside of a cabinet. You can order a DIN-rail kit or side-mount kit separately for different placement options.
The NPort 6100-G2/6200-G2 can be placed flat on a desktop or other horizontal surface. In addition, you may use the DIN-rail mount, wall-mount, or side-mount options (DIN-rail and side-mounting kits need to be ordered separately), as illustrated in the following diagrams:
Wall Mounting
DIN-rail Mounting (plastic)
Side Mounting
DIN-rail Mounting (metal) With Side-mounting Kit
The mounting kit packages include screws. However, if you prefer to buy your own, refer to the dimensions below:
- Wall-mounting kit screws: FMS M3 x 6 mm
- DIN-rail mounting kit screws: FTS M3 x 10.5 mm
- Side-mounting kit screws: FMS M3 x 6 mm
- Metal DIN-rail kit screws (on side-mount kit): FMS M3 x 5 mm For attaching the device server to a wall or the inside of a cabinet, we recommend using a M3 screw with the following specifications:
- The head of the screw should be between 4 to 6.5 mm in diameter.
- The shaft should be 3.5 mm in diameter.
- The length should be longer than 5 mm.
