Installation Information
Under Counter (UC-24) Series
INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
This section covers common installation issues that may be encountered by a Service Technician. Improper installation, while not a valid service issue, can lead to service calls. Installation-related complaints may include, but are not limited to: unit leveling, unit movement, door misalignment, door not sealing, internal frost or condensation, and exterior condensation, or warm compartment temperatures.
NOTE: For additional installation information, refer to the complete Installation Manual or contact the Sub-Zero Service Department.
Site Preparation
Ensure that the finished rough opening where the Undercounter unit will be installed is properly prepared. Refer to Figure 2-1 for rough opening dimensions, door swing clearance, and the location of electrical and plumbing connections (Model UC-24C).
NOTE: For proper operation, the door must open a minimum of 90°. Use a minimum 2" (51 mm) filler in corner installations to ensure a 90° door opening. Allow sufficient clearance in front of the unit for full door swing.
NOTE: The floor under the unit must be level with the surrounding finished floor.
NOTE: Dimensions in parentheses are in millimeters unless otherwise specified.
Figure 2-1 illustrates the rough opening and door swing. The diagram shows top, front, and side views with dimensions for rough opening width, depth, and height. It also indicates the location for water lines (Model UC-24C only) and anti-tip brackets. Door swing clearances are detailed, showing minimum and maximum angles and required door clearance space.
Anti-Tip Bracket Installation
WARNING: THE UNIT COULD TIP FORWARD UNDER CERTAIN LOAD CONDITIONS. FAILURE TO INSTALL ANTI-TIP COMPONENTS AND LEVEL THE UNIT ACCORDING TO THE INSTALLATION MANUAL COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
To install the Anti-Tip Bracket (See Figure 2-2):
- Locate and mark two wall studs at the back of the unit installation location.
- Identify and mark the proper height to clear the unit top. The space between the unit top and the bottom of the bracket must not exceed 1/4" (6.1 mm).
- Secure the bracket to the wall studs identified in step 1, ensuring screws extend 7/8" (22.2 mm) into each wall stud. The bracket must extend a minimum of 3" (76.2 mm) over the unit.
- Refer to the Installation Guide provided with the unit for any additional information.
Figure 2-2 shows anti-tip components, illustrating the bracket attached to wall studs above the unit.
Unit Leveling
NOTE: These models must be leveled before installation into the rough-in opening. If the unit is already installed and anchored through the countertop bracket (See Figure 2-3), extract the anchor screws and pull the unit from the rough-in opening. After leveling the unit as described below and reinstalling it into the rough-in opening, reinstall the anchor screws through the countertop bracket.
To Level:
- Place the appliance in front of the rough-in opening.
- Turn each leveling leg clockwise to raise the unit, and counterclockwise to lower the unit (See Figure 2-4).
Figure 2-3 shows a countertop bracket used for anchoring the unit.
Figure 2-4 illustrates the leveling legs, indicating that turning them clockwise raises the unit and counterclockwise lowers it.
