OPERATION

Placement for Maximum Accuracy

Proper placement of both the display unit and the 5-in-1 sensor is critical for accurate readings. Place the display unit in a dry area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or vents. The sensor should also be placed away from moisture sources and mounted at least 5 ft off the ground.

Using the Professional Weather Center

Learning Mode

The Self-Calibrating Forecasting feature uses a unique algorithm to analyze pressure changes over time, determining your altitude. The "Learning Mode" icon disappears after 14 days, indicating the unit is tuned to your location for accurate weather prediction.

Weather Forecast

AcuRite's patented Self-Calibrating Forecasting provides a 12-to-24 hour personal forecast by collecting data from the 5-in-1 sensor. It offers pinpoint accuracy personalized to your exact location.

Forecast Icons:

  • Stormy & Windy: ⛈️ (flashing = stormy)
  • Snow Likely: ❄️
  • Snow / Rain Mix Likely: ?️
  • Chance of Rain: ?️
  • Cloudy: ☁️

View the complete list of icons at www.AcuRite.com/acurite-icons.

Weather Select

This feature displays various data points including wind chill, dew point, heat index, "feels like" temperature, days with rain this month, and days since last recorded rainfall. Press the "SELECT" button to cycle through these categories.

Barometric Pressure

Subtle variations in barometric pressure significantly affect weather. The display unit shows current pressure with an arrow icon indicating the trend: FALLING ⬇️, STEADY ➡️, or RISING ⬆️.

Rainfall Tracking

This weather station tracks historical rainfall data for today, year, month, and all-time events. Press the "RAINFALL" button to review records. An icon ?️ is shown while viewing historical data.

Records are displayed in the following order:

  • Previous Rainfall #1, #2, #3
  • Current Month Total Rainfall
  • Previous Month Total Rainfall
  • 2 Months Ago Total Rainfall
  • Current Year Total Rainfall
  • Previous Year Total Rainfall
  • All-Time Total Rainfall (date shown is the start date of the total or when the display was powered on)

*Previous rainfall refers to the amount recorded from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on the date shown.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Solution
Inaccurate temperature or humidity
  • Ensure display unit and sensor are away from heat sources/vents (see page 7).
  • Position units away from moisture sources (see page 7).
  • Mount sensor at least 5 ft off the ground.
  • Calibrate indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity (see page 11).
No rainfall
  • Check if the rain gauge stabilizer (plastic tab) has been removed from the sensor.
  • Clear debris from the rain collector funnel and screen.
  • Calibrate the Rain Gauge (see page 11).
  • Verify the sensor's internal tipping lever moves freely by dripping water into the collector. You should hear it tip. If not, clean the sensor. Video available at www.acurite.com/5in1.
Inaccurate wind readings
  • Compare readings to professional weather stations typically mounted at 30 ft high or more. Ensure sensor is at a comparable height.
  • Check sensor location: mount at least 5 ft in the air with no nearby obstructions.
  • Ensure wind cups spin freely. Lubricate with graphite powder or spray lubricant if hesitant.
Display screen not working
  • Check battery installation and replace if necessary.
  • Reset the display by pressing and holding the CLEAR ALL/RESET button (in battery compartment) for 10 seconds. Date and time will need re-entry.

Care & Maintenance

Display Unit Care

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid caustic cleaners or abrasives. Keep away from dust, dirt, and moisture. Clean ventilation ports regularly with a gentle puff of air.

Calibration

Indoor/outdoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure readings can be calibrated on the display unit for improved accuracy, especially when sensor placement or environmental factors affect data.

  1. To access calibration mode, press and HOLD the ∧, SET, and V buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds.
  2. The selected item will flash. Press and release the ∧ or V buttons to adjust the value higher or lower.
  3. Press and release the SET button to save adjustments and move to the next preference. A "c" icon will appear next to calibrated values.

Preference Set Order for Calibration:

  • OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE
  • OUTDOOR HUMIDITY
  • INDOOR TEMPERATURE
  • INDOOR HUMIDITY
  • BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (must be set to MANUAL mode to calibrate)*

*To switch between AUTO and MANUAL pressure modes, press and HOLD the "SET" button for at least 10 seconds. The display will show the current mode selected.

The display will save adjustments and exit calibration mode after 20 seconds of inactivity. Calibrations are erased if the display is reset or if batteries are removed and the power adapter is unplugged.

Calibrate the Rain Gauge

The rain gauge on the 5-in-1 sensor can be calibrated for accuracy.

Items Needed: 5-in-1 sensor, display unit, plastic cup, pin, screwdriver.

  1. Ensure the 5-in-1 sensor is perfectly level using its built-in bubble level.
  2. Place the display unit nearby for monitoring during calibration.
  3. Make a pinhole in the bottom of a plastic cup. Hold the cup over the rain gauge and fill it with exactly 1 cup (8oz) of water, allowing it to drip into the gauge. You should hear the internal buckets tip and see water drain.
  4. A few seconds after each bucket tip, the display unit should register rainfall in approximately 0.01" increments.
  5. The cup of water should take more than 20 minutes to empty for accurate calibration. Simulate a normal steady rainfall. When empty, the display unit should register 1.06".

Tips:

  • There should be approximately 25 water drops between bucket tips. If not, adjust the calibration screws on the bottom of the 5-in-1 sensor until the number of drops is equal. Then, restart the calibration procedure.
  • If you don't hear the buckets tipping or see water dripping alternately from drains, there may be an issue with the rain gauge or its adjustment. See Troubleshooting on page 15.

Adjustment:

If the rain gauge doesn't register close to 1.06", make an EQUAL adjustment to the two calibration screws on the bottom of the 5-in-1 sensor. Turning screws clockwise increases rainfall; counter-clockwise decreases rainfall.

  • To adjust rainfall by 2%, turn both screws 1/8 of a turn.
  • To adjust rainfall by 4%, turn both screws 1/4 of a turn.
  • To adjust rainfall by 8%, turn both screws 1/2 of a turn.
