Notes on DM3 (with Dante Module) Dante Firmware Update
If a "Dante Update Error" message appears during the DM3 main unit firmware update, and the Dante module firmware update does not start, please check the following:
- If Dante Device Lock is enabled on the Dante module, use Dante Controller (v3.10.0.19 or later) to disable Dante Device Lock and restart the DM3 unit.
- If the Dante module is registered to a domain in Dante Domain Manager, use Dante Domain Manager to deregister from the domain, restart the DM3 unit, and then update.
- If the subnet of the PRIMARY port IP address differs from the IP address set for the DM3, change either IP address to match the subnet, and then restart the DM3 unit. The PRIMARY port IP address can be changed via Dante Controller. The IP address set for the DM3 can be changed from the NETWORK screen via the For Device Control tab.
- Refer to the DM3/DM3 Standard firmware release notes for details.
- The Dante module firmware will update automatically when the DM3 main unit starts next time.
- Dante module firmware can also be updated using the import function of Dante Updater. For instructions on using Dante Updater, refer to the "Updating Firmware" section of the Dante Firmware Update Guide (yamaha.com).
- For more details, refer to the DM3/DM3 Standard firmware release notes.
- If the Dante module firmware is corrupted, refer to "If the Dante Module Update Fails" (page 7).
Update Procedure
- Insert the USB memory stick into a USB port on your computer.
- Extract the downloaded compressed file (.zip) and copy the "DM3_firmware_v***.bin" file (where *** is the version number) to the root directory of the USB memory stick. NOTE: Do not copy any data other than the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit firmware file to the USB memory stick.
- Once copying is complete, remove the USB memory stick. For instructions on safely removing a USB memory stick, refer to your computer or USB memory stick's operating manual.
- Turn off the power of the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit.
- Insert the USB memory stick with the firmware file copied onto it into the USB port on the upper right side of the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit, and then turn on the power. The message "Update firmware?" will be displayed.
A visual representation of the update prompt screen is described. It shows "Current: V1.03", "New: V1.10", with options to "Cancel" or "Update". Below this, it indicates "Update Program: V1.01".
NOTE: If the firmware version of the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit is the same as the firmware file to be updated, this screen will not be displayed.
- Press the "Update" button. Caution: Do not operate any controls (switches, knobs, faders, etc.) on the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit during the firmware update.
The firmware file for the DM3/DM3 Standard main unit will be transferred (approx. 2 minutes).

NOTE: For DM3 (with Dante module), the Dante version may initially display "---------- ----------" on the ABOUT screen immediately after the update. The Dante version should appear within about a minute. If the Dante version does not appear, refer to "If the Dante Module Update Fails" (page 7).
The firmware update is now complete.
NOTE: Depending on the firmware version, new presets may be added to scenes or libraries. To load new presets, you must initialize the main unit's memory (Initialize All Memories). For information on initializing main unit memory, refer to the "MAINTENANCE Screen" → "Initialize All Memories Screen" in the Reference Manual.
If the Dante Module Update Fails
The Dante module's firmware may become corrupted if the DM3 main unit's power is turned off during the firmware update. To recover from this state, the Dante module enters "Fail-Safe Mode".
If the Dante module can boot in Fail-Safe Mode, you can recover the Dante module by sending a recovery image using Dante Updater.
Checking for Dante Module Firmware Corruption
When the Dante module's firmware is corrupted, the Dante version on the DM3 main unit's ABOUT screen will be displayed as "------------ ----- ".
If the Dante module can boot in Fail-Safe Mode, it will be displayed in red as "BROOKLYN3-xxxxxx" in the Dante Controller's network grid view. In this case, use the Dante Updater included with Dante Controller to perform the recovery and import/update the latest Dante firmware.
For detailed steps, refer to the "About Fail-Safe Mode" section of the Dante Firmware Update Guide (yamaha.com).
