Step 1: Connect to an Internet Modem
Unplug the modem's power. If the modem uses a battery backup, remove the battery. Connect the modem to the router's yellow Internet WAN port using an Ethernet cable.
Note: An existing LAN providing Internet connectivity can also be used instead of a modem. Connect the cable from the LAN to the router's yellow Internet WAN port. For more information, refer to the user manual available at netgear.com/support/download/.
Diagram Description: Sample Connections for Insight Managed Network
The diagram shows an Internet modem connected to the BR200 router's WAN port. The router's LAN ports connect to a switch and an access point, with a computer connected to the switch.
Step 2: Connect to Power
Plug in and turn on the modem. If the modem has a battery backup, reinsert the battery before powering on.
Connect the router to a power source. The Power LED on the front panel will blink green and then turn solid green. If the Power LED does not illuminate, press the Power On/Off button.
Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection
Prerequisites
Locate your Internet Service Provider (ISP) configuration information.
Configuration Steps
- Configure a computer to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP.
- Connect the computer to a LAN port (1, 2, 3, or 4) on the router using an Ethernet cable. The computer will receive an IP address from the router.
- Alternatively, a WiFi access point connected to a router LAN port can be used for WiFi connectivity. (The router itself does not provide WiFi.) Refer to the user manual for details.
- Open a web browser on the connected computer and navigate to http://www.routerlogin.net.
- Enter "admin" for the username and "password" for the password when prompted.
- The Setup Wizard will launch. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the Internet. The wizard will detect your Internet connection type.
Note: For manual Internet connection setup, consult the user manual.
Upon successful Internet connection, the Internet WAN LED on the front panel will light solid green. The router is now functional as a standard router. To manage it within an Insight managed network, proceed to Step 4.
Step 4: Add the Router to an Insight Network
Overview
The NETGEAR Insight app allows mobile device management (discovery, configuration, monitoring) of the router. Access can be via local WiFi, mobile connection, or the Insight Cloud Portal for Insight Premium/Pro subscribers, offering a larger screen experience on computers or tablets.
Adding the Router via the NETGEAR Insight App
Once the router is connected to the Internet, it can communicate with the Insight cloud.
- Download the NETGEAR Insight app from your iOS or Android app store.
- Open the NETGEAR Insight app.
- If you don't have a NETGEAR account, tap "Create NETGEAR Account" and follow the instructions.
- Log in to your NETGEAR account using your credentials.
- Name your network and set a device admin password for all devices in the network.
- Tap "Next".
- Add the router using one of these methods:
- If the router and your mobile device are on the same WiFi network, scan the network to allow Insight to find the router.
- If not on the same WiFi network, use the information on the router label: scan the serial number barcode, scan the QR code, or enter the serial number manually.
- Note: You may be prompted to connect the router to power and an uplink; this has already been done. Tap "Next".
The app will discover and register the router. The Cloud LED on the front panel will light solid blue when the router is connected to the Insight cloud and registered.
You can now select the router to configure and manage it, or access it later via the app to change settings.
