Alfresco URS-1XE Service and Parts Manual

Troubleshooting and Service Guide
This guide is intended to assist in diagnosing common problems with the Alfresco URS-1XE refrigerator. For component replacement, a trained and licensed refrigeration professional should be used. Repairs within the factory warranty period require prior authorization.
Unit Not Cooling:
- Power to the Unit: Verify the unit is receiving power and the voltage is within ± 10% of 115 VAC. Low voltage can cause the compressor to draw more amperage, potentially tripping its safety relay.
- Compressor Not Running: The compressor and condenser fan receive power simultaneously. However, there is a ten-minute time delay for the compressor to start, during which the fan will run. This is normal.
- Condenser Fan Not Running: If the compressor is running, the condenser fan should also be running. Check for power to the fan motor and ensure the fan blades rotate freely. Debris (leaves, paper, grass clippings, etc.) can obstruct the fan blades and prevent rotation.
Unit Not Holding Temperature Correctly:
- Evaporator Intake: Ensure that products are not blocking the evaporator coil intake slots. While designed to prevent blockage, soft packaging can obstruct airflow. Rearrange products to clear the slots.
- Digital Temperature Control: Verify the temperature control is set correctly according to the user manual. Incorrect settings can lead to improper refrigeration or excessive ice formation, blocking airflow.
Noisy Operation:
- Ambient Temperature: Higher ambient temperatures (90°F or above) will cause the unit to run more, making compressor and fan noise more noticeable.
- Required Run Time: As ambient temperature increases, the refrigerator requires more cooling, leading to increased compressor and fan noise.
- Residual Heat: Units located on concrete slabs or in sunny areas may experience higher intake air temperatures, making the condenser coil less efficient and increasing run time.
- Debris in Fan Blades: Debris can obstruct fan rotation or airflow, causing noise or cooling issues.
- Fully Stocked: An under-stocked unit may cycle more frequently. A fully stocked unit has extended run times but also extended off-times, allowing the compressor to cool properly between cycles for better efficiency.
Performance Envelope:
The URS-1XE can maintain internal temperatures between 22°F and 40°F at ambient temperatures up to 110°F. At ambient temperatures above 85-90°F, the unit may operate continuously. This is normal during peak temperature periods. Normal cyclic operation resumes when ambient temperature drops below 85-90°F. Note that reported ambient temperatures are measured in shaded, ventilated conditions; actual temperatures around the unit may be higher, especially in direct sunlight or on heated surfaces.
