Care and Maintenance of Your Refrigerator

Stainless Steel is widely used for kitchen equipment because of its strength, its ability to resist corrosion and its ease of cleaning. To maintain its appearance and ensure longevity, regular cleaning is recommended.

Day to Day Care:

  • After use, wipe the unit with a soft, damp, soapy cloth and rinse with clean water (preferably warm/hot).
  • For more tenacious deposits (oil, grease, water-borne deposits), use a multipurpose cream cleanser applied with a soft damp cloth. Rinse with clean water.
  • Do not use harsh abrasives, scouring materials, wire brushes, scrapers, or contaminated scouring pads, as they can leave scratch marks and damage the surface.

Proper care ensures excellent life and maintains the "stainless" reputation. Neglect can lead to surface deterioration, rust marks, and pitting.

Rust Brown Marks:

These marks are typically caused by small particles of ordinary steel attached to the surface and rusting in a damp environment. Common sources include "wire wool" scouring pads, carbon steel utensils, or old cast iron water supply pipes. These are superficial stains and can usually be removed with a soft damp cloth and cream cleanser. A proprietary stainless steel cleanser may be needed for stubborn marks.

Pitting:

This form of corrosion is often attributed to household products containing chlorine, such as bleaches. Use bleaches according to manufacturer's instructions and rinse thoroughly. Concentrated salt and vinegar mixtures can also cause surface marking if left in contact with the steel for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

Before calling for service, use this checklist to potentially resolve issues and save the cost of a service call.

Refrigerator Not Cooling Enough:

Lower the temperature of the cabinet by adjusting the digital thermostat to a lower setting.

Noisy Operation:

This is usually caused by the unit not being level. Reposition the refrigerator to see if the noise can be eliminated. Refer to unit leveling instructions.

Moisture On or In Unit:

Warm, moist air can condense on cold surfaces. Condensation inside can be caused by frequent or prolonged door openings, or the thermostat being set too cold. Check the temperature and adjust to a slightly higher setting. Minimize door openings and verify the door gasket seals properly.

Appliance Runs Too Long:

Running time varies with outside temperature, door openings, etc. This is normal in hot or humid weather.

Locating and Installing Your Refrigerator

Select Location:

Choose a location out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. The unit is designed for a properly ventilated area with an ambient temperature between 30°F and 120°F.

Ensure proper ventilation from the bottom front of the unit. Keep the area directly in front and behind the unit clear of obstructions. For built-in units, maintain at least 2 inches of clearance at the back and bottom for servicing.

Electrical Service:

All ETL listed refrigerators are equipped with a three-pronged plug. Use only the supplied electrical cord, plugged directly into a properly grounded 3-pronged outlet (GFCI circuit preferred), in accordance with the National Electrical Code and applicable local codes. The grounding prong must not be cut or removed. Do not use an extension cord.

Shelf and Drawer Adjustments

Adjust shelves or drawers to your preference using the following procedure. These instructions apply to enclosed or open shelves and drawers with self-closing mechanisms.

Diagram Description: Shows illustrations of an ENCLOSED SHELF, OPEN SHELF, and DRAWER.

Shelf or Drawer Slides Separation:

  • Extend the shelf or drawer slides to their maximum position.
  • On each side, a red lever allows the drawer slide to be separated.
  • Push the RIGHT red lever DOWN and the LEFT lever UP.
  • Separate the Refrigerator BODY TRACKS from the shelf or drawer SLIDES by sliding them apart.

Diagram Description: Illustrates the LEFT SIDE and RIGHT SIDE of the drawer slides, showing the red levers for separation and the separate refrigerator body track.

Body Track Installation:

  • Remove (or relocate) the body side TRACK by lifting the front, tilting, and pulling the track forward. This detaches it from the refrigerator body.
  • Relocate or install into new slots to suit shelf height requirements.
  • Insert the REAR TAB of the body track assembly into the rear track standard at a slight angle.
  • Align the FRONT TAB of the body track assembly into the front track standard and push down, ensuring the track is straight and leveled.
  • Repeat for the opposite side.
  • Extend the MID-SECTION of the drawer track assembly.

Diagram Description: Shows the BODY TRACK ASSEMBLY with FRONT TAB and REAR TAB. It also illustrates the FRONT TRACK STANDARD and REAR TRACK STANDARD on the refrigerator body, and the MID-SECTION OF TRACK.

Shelf or Drawer Installation

Install the shelf or drawer into the tracks previously installed.

  • Align the back edges of the slides into the black plastic track guides of the body track's mid-section.
  • PUSH the shelf or drawer fully into the refrigerator until you hear a "click" as the red levers lock into the tracks.

Note: The shelf or drawer might not slide smoothly initially due to slight differences and leveling between the left and right slides. This is normal.

Slide and Track Alignment:

  • PULL the shelf or drawer out to its fully extended position.
  • Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, loosen the 4 screws (2 on each side) from the shelf or drawer by ONE FULL TURN. Ensure screws are loose enough for the shelf/drawer to move up and down freely.
  • Push the shelf or drawer completely inwards until the self-closing mechanism is fully engaged.
  • PUSH the entire shelf or drawer DOWN at the center to self-align the slides to the tracks.
  • PULL the shelf or drawer OUT a little at a time and fasten the first 2 front screws (left and right).
  • Continue pulling and fasten the rear slide screws.

The shelf or drawer should now operate correctly and smoothly.

Diagram Description: Illustrates the alignment process: pulling the shelf/drawer out, loosening screws, pushing it in, pushing down at the center, and then re-fastening screws. Shows SHELF OR DRAWER SCREWS (2) and FRONT SLIDE / REAR TRACK STANDARD.

Door Installation Kit & Reversal

Your AR Refrigerator door is mounted on the right side by default and is reversible. The enclosed door kit includes necessary items to reverse your door.

Door Logo Installation:

The Alfresco Logo is not mounted until you decide which side the door should open. Use the enclosed cardboard logo template for consistent placement.

  1. CLEAN the door surface thoroughly to remove dirt and factory oils. Use a non-ammonia window cleaner or isopropyl alcohol for best results.
  2. Secure the cardboard template at the bottom door edge, centered side-to-side, using tape.
  3. Peel the backing from the Alfresco logo and attach it to the door, centering it within the template's logo pocket.
  4. Press firmly for a few seconds for permanent attachment.
  5. Discard and recycle the cardboard template.

Diagram Description: Shows the DOOR with a CARDBOARD TEMPLATE taped in place, and the SELF ADHESIVE LOGO being aligned and applied within the template's logo pocket.

Door Reversal Procedure:

WARNING: The door is very heavy (20-25 lbs) and can cause injury if dropped.

  1. Unplug the refrigerator or set the unit to OFF.
  2. Open the door. Using the 1/8" Allen Hex Key, loosen the socket screws of the top hinge approximately 2 turns counter-clockwise.
  3. Lift the top hinge while supporting the door's weight on the bottom hinge.
  4. Finish removing the top hinge by moving/tilting it forward until it detaches from the screws, keyhole slot, and pivot pin. Set aside.
  5. Lift the door from the bottom hinge and set aside.
  6. Remove components from the refrigerator body for left-side door operation: plastic rivets (use a flat screwdriver to open rivet head and remove body) and the lock latch assembly (if applicable). Save plastic rivets for later use.

Diagram Description: Shows the removal of the RIGHT BOTTOM BODY HINGE ASSEMBLY and SHIM. It also depicts the installation of plastic rivets and the placement of the TOP HINGE ASSEMBLY and LEFT BOTTOM BODY HINGE ASSEMBLY.

  1. Prepare the door for reversal: remove plastic rivets, magnet for magnetic switch, and the right bottom door hinge assembly. The magnet housing is fastened with 2 screws (8-32 x 3/8").
  2. DO NOT remove the plastic pivot bushing; it will serve as the top bushing for the reversed door.
  3. Reassemble the door for left-side use: reverse magnet location, reverse plastic rivets for unused screw holes and near the top hinge area, and install the provided bottom door hinge assembly (510-1583), fastening the socket head screw tightly.

Diagram Description: Shows the DEFAULT RIGHT SIDE DOOR components being removed (MAGNET HOUSING, PLASTIC RIVETS, RIGHT BOTTOM DOOR HINGE ASSEMBLY). It then illustrates the NEW LEFT SIDE DOOR assembly with reversed components and the LEFT DOOR BOTTOM HINGE.

  1. Install the TOP LEFT BODY HINGE (510-1459) removed earlier, reversing it for the left side. Leave a 1/8" gap between screw heads and the body.
  2. Install the reconfigured door onto the refrigerator body's bottom hinge.
  3. Install the TOP LEFT BODY HINGE by placing it onto the door pivot pin and through the screw keyhole.
  4. TIGHTEN all screws from the bottom and top body hinges while aligning the door. Hinges allow for side-to-side adjustment.

DOOR REVERSAL IS COMPLETED. RESTORE POWER TO THE UNIT.
