Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the JBL Authentics speaker. This manual provides step-by-step instructions for setup and operation. Keep this manual for future reference. For the latest software updates, refer to the Software Update section.

JBL One App
The JBL One app allows you to:
- Easily connect the speaker to your Wi-Fi network.
- Set up voice assistants.
- Connect to music streaming services.
- Personalize sound settings.
- Manage and control your devices.
- Enjoy Dolby Atmos® music through music streaming services (Authentics 500 model only).
- Access additional features.

Note: A subscription may be required and is not provided by the JBL One app.
Voice Control
If Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are available, you can play your favorite music and control smart home devices hands-free using voice commands. Both assistants can be used simultaneously on this device. Refer to the "6. VOICE ASSISTANTS" chapter for setup and usage instructions.

5. Sound Control
- TREBLE: Rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise to increase or decrease the treble level.
- BASS: Rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise to increase or decrease the bass level.

3.2 Rear Panel
1. POWER
- Connect to a power source (using the included power cable).
2. USB
- Connect a USB drive to play MP3 files (US version only).
3. AUX
- Connect to the audio output of an external device using a 3.5 mm audio cable.
4. ETHERNET
- Connect to your home network using an Ethernet cable.

- Slide the switch to turn the microphone on or off.

4. Powering On
4.1 Connecting to Power
- Connect the speaker to a power source using the included power cable.
- The speaker will turn on and enter Wi-Fi setup mode automatically.
4.2 Auto Standby
If the speaker remains inactive for more than 10 minutes, it will automatically enter standby mode.
4.3 Auto Wake-Up
In standby mode, the speaker will automatically wake up when:
- Any button on the speaker is pressed.
- The speaker is connected to your home network, and you control the speaker's settings and playback via the JBL One app.
- The speaker is connected to your home network, and you activate it using an enabled voice assistant.
- The speaker is connected to your home network, and audio is streaming via supported streaming services enabled through the JBL One app.
- An audio cable is connected to the speaker, and music playback begins from the external device connected via the audio cable.
5. Connecting
5.1 Connecting to Your Home Network
Connect the speaker to your network using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. By registering Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, you can get assistance or control your smart home devices hands-free using voice commands. This also enables Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music, and Alexa Cast. Additionally, with the JBL One app and supported streaming services (AirPlay and Spotify Connect), the speaker allows you to stream music from your smartphone or tablet (see "7.1 Playing Through Your Home Network").
5.1.1 Wi-Fi Connection to Your Home Network
- Connect the speaker to a power source. The speaker will enter Wi-Fi setup mode (slow pulsing white light).
- Connect your Android™ or iOS device to your home Wi-Fi network. Download the JBL One app.
- Launch the JBL One app and follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup.
- Status Indicators:
- Solid green: Speaker detected by the JBL One app.
- Solid white: Speaker connected to your home network.
- You can now stream music from the JBL One app or a streaming service enabled through the JBL One app (see "7.1 Playing Through Your Home Network").
Notes:
- Ensure the speaker is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android or iOS device.
- If the JBL One app does not detect the speaker, press and hold the B and buttons simultaneously for more than 10 seconds to re-enter Wi-Fi setup mode.
- To use Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music, and Alexa Cast, register Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa in the Google Home and Amazon Alexa apps, respectively.
5.1.2 Wired Connection to Your Home Network via Ethernet Cable (Optional)
- Connect the speaker to your home network using an Ethernet cable (not included).
- On your Android or iOS device, download and launch the JBL One app for music streaming and playback control.
Notes:
- You can rename the speaker in the JBL One app on your Android or iOS device.
- On iOS devices, add the speaker to the Apple Home app and control it with other AirPlay 2-compatible devices.
- On iOS devices, if the speaker is added to your home network, you can initiate AirPlay streaming from an AirPlay-compatible app (see "7.1.3 Playing Through AirPlay").
- The availability of online music streaming services varies by country.
- Some features require a subscription and are not available in all countries.
5.2 Connecting to a Bluetooth Device
Connect the speaker to a Bluetooth device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, and laptop) via Bluetooth.
5.2.1 Pairing a Bluetooth Device
- Press the B button to select the Bluetooth source. The indicator will blink white, indicating it is ready for Bluetooth pairing.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device and search for "JBL Authentics 200" or "JBL Authentics 500" within three minutes.
- The indicator will turn solid white, indicating a successful connection.
5.2.2 Reconnecting to the Last Device
The Bluetooth device will remain paired when the speaker enters standby mode. The next time the Bluetooth source is activated, the speaker will automatically reconnect to the last active device.
5.2.3 Connecting to Another Bluetooth Device
- Press the B button on the speaker. The speaker will enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Follow step 2 in "5.2.1 Pairing a Bluetooth Device".
Notes:
- This speaker supports multi-device connections. You can pair a second Bluetooth device without disconnecting the first.
- Bluetooth connection will be lost if the distance between the speaker and the Bluetooth device exceeds 10 meters (33 feet).
- Electronic devices can cause radio interference. Keep devices that generate electromagnetic waves, such as microwave ovens and wireless LAN devices, away from the speaker.
- Voice commands are not supported in Bluetooth mode.
5.3 Connecting to an External Audio Device
Connect the speaker to an external audio device using a 3.5 mm audio cable (sold separately). Connect one end to the AUX jack on the speaker and the other end to the 3.5 mm audio output jack on the audio device.
Note: After connecting the cable, ensure that music is not playing via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth before starting playback through the audio cable.
6. Voice Assistants
6.1 Setting Up Voice Assistants
Use the JBL One app on your Android or iOS device to set up your voice assistant: Google Assistant, Alexa, or both.
- Follow the prompts to set up voice assistants in the JBL One app immediately after connecting the speaker to your home network (see "5.1 Connecting to Your Home Network").
- If the speaker is already connected to your home network but voice assistant setup is not complete, follow these steps:
Note: Ensure your Android or iOS device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker.
6.2 Addressing Voice Assistants
When using voice assistants simultaneously, you can use Google Assistant or Alexa to play music, get answers, manage daily tasks, and control smart home devices with your voice.
- Ensure the speaker is properly connected to your home network and the microphone is enabled.
- Simply say: “Okay, Google” or “Alexa” to begin.
- Examples:
- “Okay, Google, play music.”
- “Alexa, turn up the volume.”
- “Alexa, set a timer for 15 minutes.”
- “Okay, Google, stop playback.”
- To pause the voice assistant(s), turn off the microphone (). To resume interaction with the voice assistant(s), turn the microphone back on ().
Notes:
- For more information about Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, visit assistant.google.com or the Amazon Alexa app.
- If Alexa or Google Assistant is set up but the microphone on the speaker is turned off, the voice assistants will not respond to voice commands until the microphone is turned on.
7. Playing Music
Notes:
- To use Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music, and Alexa Cast, register Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa in the Google Home and Amazon Alexa apps, respectively.
- The speaker supports audio streaming but not video streaming.
- While streaming music via Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Alexa Cast, AirPlay, Bluetooth, or other streaming services activated in the JBL One app, music playback will pause on the currently connected device if you start playing music on a second connected device.
- When switching the speaker from a home Wi-Fi network to a wired network while using AirPlay, music playback will pause and resume after a few minutes, depending on the streaming bandwidth. To connect the soundbar to a wired home network, see section "5.1 Connecting to Your Home Network".
7.1 Playing Through Your Home Network
Before you begin, ensure:
- Your Android or iOS device and your speakers are connected to the same Wi-Fi network for music streaming and playback control (see "5.1 Connecting to Your Home Network").
7.1.1 Playing Through the JBL One App
Stream audio from enabled music services to the speaker using the JBL One app.
- On your Android or iOS device, launch the JBL One app, browse available music streaming services to select music, and then start streaming music to the connected speaker.
- To exit music playback mode, switch to another source.
Note: A subscription may be required and is not provided by the JBL One app.
Accessing Presets with the (Moment) Button
- In the JBL One app, personalize the (Moment) function.
- On the speaker, press the button to access your personalized playlist and speaker settings.
7.1.2 Playing Through Chromecast built-in
Stream audio from your Android or iOS device to the speaker via Chromecast built-in.
- On your Android or iOS device:
- Launch the JBL One app and ensure you have enabled the Chromecast built-in service.
- On a Chromecast-enabled device, play music, tap the icon, and select the connected speaker.
- To exit music playback mode, switch to another source.
7.1.3 Playing Through AirPlay
Stream audio from your iOS device to the speaker via AirPlay.
- On your iOS device, swipe down from the top-right corner to access Control Center. Tap the icon, select the connected speaker, and then start streaming audio in an app.
- To exit music playback mode, switch to another source.
7.1.4 Playing Through Alexa Cast
If the speaker is connected to the Alexa Cast app, you can stream music from your Amazon Music library to the speaker.
- On your Android or iOS device, launch the JBL One app and ensure you have enabled the Amazon Alexa service.
- Launch the Amazon Alexa app to start playing music.
- Open the Amazon Music app to access your Amazon Music library.
- Ensure you are streaming music from the same Alexa account that you enabled in the JBL One app. Refer to the Amazon Alexa app for more information.
7.1.5 Playing Dolby Atmos Music
The Authentics 500 model supports Dolby Atmos® sound effects. When playing Dolby audio content during Wi-Fi streaming, the Dolby Atmos effect is automatically applied to create a truly immersive 3D sound experience.
Notes:
- A TIDAL HiFi Plus subscription is required to enjoy Dolby Atmos music with the TIDAL service.
- Dolby Atmos music is not supported on the Authentics 200 model.
7.1.6 Multi-Room Playback
With multi-room playback, you can stream music from your Android or iOS device to multiple Chromecast / AirPlay / Alexa-enabled speakers.
- Chromecast built-in:
- Set up Google Assistant with Chromecast built-in in the Google Home app. Use the app to connect multiple Chromecast speakers to the same network, place them in different rooms, and create groups as needed.
- Launch a Chromecast-enabled app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Play music. Tap the icon and select the grouped speakers.
- To create a speaker group for multi-room playback in the Google Home app, ensure all speakers are connected to the same home network and use the same Google account. Refer to the Google Home app for more details.
- Depending on your local network bandwidth, you can stream music to up to 6 Chromecast speakers.
- AirPlay:
- Access Control Center on your iOS device.
- Tap the icon to select multiple connected speakers as needed.
- Start streaming audio from an app.
- Alexa MRM: Multi-Room Music Playback
- Ensure you have enabled Amazon Alexa on the speaker using the JBL One app.
- Use the Amazon Alexa app to create a multi-room music group for the speaker. Refer to the Amazon Alexa app for more information.
Notes:
Note: To create a music group for multi-room playback in the Amazon Alexa app, ensure all devices are connected to the same home network and use the same Alexa account. Refer to the Amazon Alexa app for more information.
7.2 Playing from a Bluetooth Source
Stream audio from a Bluetooth device to the speaker via Bluetooth.
- Ensure the speaker is properly connected to the Bluetooth device (see "5.2 Connecting to a Bluetooth Device").
- Press the B button to select the Bluetooth source.
- Start playing audio on the Bluetooth device.
- Alternatively, press the D button on the speaker to control playback.
Note: If you start streaming music via Wi-Fi, music streaming via Bluetooth will pause.
7.3 Controlling Music Playback
Control playback while streaming music via the JBL One app, Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Alexa Cast, AirPlay, or Bluetooth.
- Press the D button once to play or pause music.
- Press the D button twice to skip to the next track.
- Press the D button three times to skip to the previous track.
- Rotate the volume dials clockwise or counter-clockwise to increase or decrease the volume.
Note: Music control is not available in AUX mode.
7.4 Playing from an AUX Source
Play music from an external audio device using a 3.5 mm audio cable.
- Ensure the speaker is properly connected to the external audio device (see "5.3 Connecting to an External Audio Device").
- Ensure that music streaming via Bluetooth and your home network is paused.
- Start playing audio on the external audio device.
- Adjust the volume on the external audio device or the speaker.
Note: If the external audio device does not play sound, try disconnecting and reconnecting the audio cable.
8. Settings
8.1 Sound Adjustment
8.1.1 Sound Control
Adjust the equalizer settings for a personalized sound experience using the JBL One app or the dials on the speaker.
- Option 1: On the Speaker:
- TREBLE: Rotate the dial to adjust treble.
- BASS: Rotate the dial to adjust bass.
- Option 2: Via the App:
- Use the equalizer sliders in the JBL One app to adjust Bass, Mid, and Treble.
Note: Sound settings in the app and on the speaker are synchronized.
8.1.2 Auto Calibration
To optimize sound quality for your unique listening environment, the speaker automatically calibrates itself every time you connect it to a power source and start playing music. Auto calibration takes three minutes. If music playback stops before auto calibration is complete, it will resume after you restart music playback.
Note: Automatic auto calibration will be disabled after the microphone is turned off.
8.2 Software Update
When the speaker is connected to the internet via your home network, its software will automatically update to the latest version.
8.3 Restoring Factory Settings
To restore the factory default settings, press and hold the D and buttons simultaneously for more than 10 seconds. After restoring factory settings, the speaker will automatically turn off and restart.

10. Troubleshooting
Never attempt to repair the unit yourself. If you encounter problems using the unit, check the following points before contacting support. For additional troubleshooting tips, visit https://product.jbl.com/AUTHENTICS-200.html or https://product.jbl.com/AUTHENTICS-500.html.
System
- Unit does not power on.
- Check if the power cord is plugged into the outlet and the speaker.
- Speaker does not respond to button presses.
- Disconnect and reconnect the power cable.
Bluetooth
- Unable to connect the device to the speaker.
- Check if Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
- If the speaker is connected to another Bluetooth device, re-enter Bluetooth pairing mode (see "5.2.3 Connecting to Another Bluetooth Device").
- Poor sound quality from a connected Bluetooth device.
- Poor Bluetooth reception. Move the source device closer to the speaker or eliminate any obstruction between the source device and the speaker.
Wi-Fi Network
- Wi-Fi connection error.
- Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled.
- Ensure you have selected the correct network and entered the correct password.
- Ensure your router or modem is powered on and within range.
- Ensure your router's security type is set to WPA2 or Auto.
- Ensure the speaker is connected to the same wireless LAN as your smartphone or tablet.
- If Wi-Fi setup is difficult, press and hold the D and buttons simultaneously until the status indicator begins to slow pulse white.
Voice Assistants
- No response to voice commands.
- Ensure the speaker is connected to your home network (see "5.1 Connecting to Your Home Network").
- Ensure you are using the correct wake word for voice control (see "6.2 Addressing Voice Assistants").
- Depending on the speaker's location, ambient conditions may prevent the speaker from detecting voice commands. Do not place the speaker in a noisy environment or in a location subject to strong wind or echoes.
- Ensure the built-in microphones are not turned off or obstructed.
- Speak closer to the microphones.
Playback
- AirPlay does not detect the speaker as an AirPlay speaker for music streaming.
- On your Apple device, update the software to the latest version: iOS 13.4 or later, macOS 10.15.4 or later, or tvOS 14.3.
- Ensure your Apple device is connected to the same network as the speaker.
- For a Windows PC with iTunes installed, you can stream music from the PC to the speaker via Bluetooth.
- Music playback is interrupted when switching audio sources from Bluetooth to Chromecast built-in, AirPlay, or Alexa.
- The quality of audio streaming and playback depends on the traffic and coverage of the network connecting the speaker and the streaming devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and personal computers.
- The Amazon Alexa app displays the speaker's status as "Offline", or there are issues with Alexa MRM playback.
- To recover the speaker, restore it to factory settings by pressing and holding the D and buttons simultaneously for more than 10 seconds.
- No audio playback from the AUX audio input source when switching audio sources from Bluetooth to AUX.
- Disconnect and reconnect the 3.5 mm audio cable to the speaker.
- No height sound effects from Dolby Atmos.
- Enjoy Dolby Atmos sound effects during Wi-Fi streaming. Dolby Atmos is not supported for audio streaming via Bluetooth.
- Dolby Atmos music is not supported on the Authentics 200 model.

To control this AirPlay 2-enabled speaker, iOS 13.4 or later is required.
