Features
- 200 Watts RMS output power: provides substantial power suitable for rehearsals and medium-sized gigs.
- Two channels: FET and Drive, with mixing options for powerful drive while maintaining clarity.
- Preshape Switch: provides a mid-frequency cut for a fuller sound, while enhancing highs and lows. Switchable mid-voicing.
- Compact and lightweight design: Weighing 5.8 kg (13 lbs), it offers easy portability without compromising durability.
- FX Loop: for increased flexibility.
- DI Out (Pre): for easy recording.
- 3.5mm Aux input: for connecting external audio devices.
- 3.5mm headphone output: for silent practice sessions.
These features make the DBF200H a versatile and easy-to-use bass amplifier, designed for bassists seeking a balance between power, portability, and tonal flexibility when using their chosen cabinets.
Controls - Front Panel
The front panel features various controls for shaping your bass tone:
- INPUT: 6.35mm mono jack connector with 1 MΩ input impedance for connecting active or passive basses. Use a good quality instrument cable for best performance.
- VOLUME FET: Controls the level of the FET channel, offering a clean, fast, articulate response with impactful bass.
- CHANNEL SELECT SWITCH: Switches between FET, DRIVE, or a MIX of FET and DRIVE channels. Remote switching is also possible.
- DRIVE: Sets the amount of pre-gain for the DRIVE channel. Low settings provide subtle overdrive for a warm tone, while higher settings push the preamp harder for more grit and distortion.
- CHANNEL INDICATOR: An LED next to the DRIVE control indicates the active channel: Green for FET, Red for MIX and DRIVE.
- VOLUME: Controls the post-gain level of the DRIVE channel. Use in conjunction with the DRIVE control to achieve the perfect overdrive tone at the right volume.
- PRE-SHAPE: A rotary control that shapes the midrange and boosts upper and lower frequencies when active. When inactive, the original tone is maintained.
- BASS: Adjusts the low frequencies. Boost for more subwoofer impact, cut to control bass feedback or clean up a muddy tone.
- MID MODE: A 4-position rotary selector providing four preset EQ voicings, working in conjunction with the MID LEVEL control. The positions offer different mid-frequency cuts and boosts for various playing styles (e.g., cutting through a mix, adding punch to distorted tones, slap bass definition, or reducing fret noise).
- MID LEVEL: Works with the MID MODE control to amplify or cut the selected mid-frequency range. A center setting bypasses the MID MODE control.
- TREBLE: Adjusts the high frequencies for clarity. Boost for more treble, cut for a smoother, softer tone.
- TILT: A general tone-balancing control. Turning towards the treble clef reduces low frequencies and enhances highs. Turning towards the bass clef does the opposite. It's ideal for fine-tuning the overall tone.
Controls - Rear Panel
The rear panel provides essential connections and features:
- LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTOR: A combined speakON® compatible output delivering 200W RMS into a 4 Ohm speaker. Suitable for 1/4" or NL2 connectors, with NL2 connectors rated for higher continuous power being recommended. Ensure the total connected impedance is 4 Ohms or higher. Connecting with less than 4 Ohms may damage the amplifier. Leaving speaker outputs disconnected is acceptable. Laney recommends DBV212 or DBV410 cabinets.
- DI OUT: A balanced XLR output for connecting to external devices like PA systems, recording setups, or stage monitoring systems. The DI signal is a buffered version of the input signal, similar to the PRE-VOLUME/DRIVE and EQ.
- FX LOOP - SEND/RETURN: Connect external effects devices. Use the SEND connector for the input of your external device and the RETURN connector for the output of your external device to your amplifier.
- REMOTE: A 6.35mm jack provides remote access to the CHANNEL SWITCH function. Pedal function depends on the channel selector switch position. A Laney FS1 footswitch is recommended (not included). The LED indicator shows the active channel: DRIVE (Red), MIX (Green), FET (Red).
- POWER SWITCH: The integrated switch isolates the unit from the mains power input. Switch off when not in use.
- POWER INPUT: Universal power input via an IEC C14 socket. 110V-240V AC power is acceptable, and voltage selection or adjustment is not required. Use the supplied power cable.
- SAFETY INFORMATION: Important information and the amplifier's serial number. Ensure ventilation openings are not covered.
Connections Diagram
The diagram illustrates various connection possibilities:
- Front Panel Connections: INPUT, VOLUME FET, DRIVE, DRIVE VOLUME, BASS, MID, TREBLE, TILT, MASTER VOLUME, AUX IN, HEADPHONES.
- Rear Panel Connections: LOUDSPEAKER (PRE), DI OUT, FX SEND/LINE OUT, FX RETURN, REMOTE.
- Example Setups: Connections to a MIXING CONSOLE, AUDIO SOURCE, HEADPHONES, OUTBOARD FX, and a LANEY FS1-MINI footswitch are shown. The diagram also shows connections to Laney DBV212-4 and DBV410-4 cabinets.
Block Diagram
The block diagram visually represents the signal path and internal components of the amplifier, showing how the FET CHANNEL, DRIVE CHANNEL, PRE-SHAPE, EQ, DRIVE, VOLUME, MIX, and MASTER VOLUME controls interact, as well as the connections for DI OUT, LOUDSPEAKER OUT, AMP MUTE, and PHONES.
