Using OpenVPN File on Android
This application note provides a step-by-step guide for configuring and using the OpenVPN Connect application on an Android device to establish a secure VPN connection.
1. Install OpenVPN App
- Navigate to the Google Play Store.
- Search for "OpenVPN Connect".
- Download and install the "OpenVPN Connect" application on your Android device.

2. Obtain the .ovpn Configuration File
Email the roadwarrior .ovpn configuration file from your RemoteVPN account to your Android device.
3. Download the .ovpn File (if necessary)
If your Android device does not automatically recognize the .ovpn file, you may need to download it manually:
- Locate and select the .ovpn file.
- Choose the option to "Save to Device".

4. Import the .ovpn Profile
Navigate to your device's Downloads folder and locate the .ovpn file.
- Click on the .ovpn file.
- Select "Documents" as the file type if prompted.
- Choose the "OpenVPN Profile" icon to open the file in the OpenVPN Connect app.

5. Add the Imported Profile
The OpenVPN Connect app will display an "Imported Profile" screen.
- Select the "Add" button to confirm and add the profile.

6. Grant Permissions and Authenticate
If a pop-up appears requesting permission to import the .ovpn profile, click "OK" [✔️].
Enter your password if prompted for authentication.

7. Verify the Added Profile
The "Profiles" screen in the OpenVPN app will now list the newly added OpenVPN profile, typically shown as "DISCONNECTED".

8. Connect to the VPN
Click the toggle switch [⚙️] next to the OpenVPN profile name.
The VPN connection will become active, and the toggle switch will turn green. Connection statistics will be displayed.

9. Disconnect from the VPN
To disconnect, click the toggle switch [⚙️] again.
If a "Disconnect VPN" pop-up appears, click "OK" [✔️] to confirm.
