The Revolution in Sound: The History of Widex Sound
Widex has always strived to create hearing systems that come as close as possible to nature's brilliance. Since the invention of the digital hearing system, it has been an accepted fact that a hearing system sounds like a hearing system. Widex is breaking new ground with the WIDEX MOMENT hearing system series, opening up a completely new hearing experience comparable to the natural hearing impression you knew before your hearing loss.
Key milestones in Widex's journey towards perfect sound:
- 1995: Consideration of the ear's anatomy in hearing system fitting.
- High-resolution sound processing in 15 frequency bands, based on the processing of natural hearing.
- True-to-life sound reproduction of the entire sound spectrum with a unique bandwidth from quiet (5 dB) to loud (113 dB peak level).
- The best sound in every hearing situation with the intelligent universal automatic system.
- Artificial intelligence for an individual hearing experience, intuitively controlled via a smartphone app.
- The sound revolution for natural hearing with Widex PureSound and TruAcoustics.
The New Naturalness of Hearing
Widex is taking new paths in sound processing with the MOMENT hearing system series. The ultra-fast PureSound processing opens up a completely new hearing experience with hearing systems, comparable to the natural hearing impression you knew before your hearing loss.
In conventional open-fit hearing systems, the sound processed by the hearing system reaches the ear with a time delay compared to the direct sound from the environment. This time delay causes distortion effects in the ear canal, which impair the naturalness of the sound image in cases of mild to moderate hearing loss.
The sound revolution behind the scenes: Sound processing with PureSound is faster than any other hearing system, eliminating delay-induced distortions in open-fit hearing systems. The result for you is a natural and incomparably clear hearing experience.

Precise Adjustment to Your Individual Hearing
The perfect sound experience begins with the precise adjustment of the hearing system to the individual ear of the hearing aid wearer. Thanks to the TruAcoustics method in fitting WIDEX MOMENT, your hearing care professional can take into account the individual anatomy of your ear with unprecedented precision.
A person's hearing is as individual as a fingerprint, and the individual biometric characteristics of the ear significantly influence the sound of the hearing system. Widex invented precise measurement and fitting with the hearing system in the ear and now offers the most precise method with TruAcoustics to consider the individual anatomical characteristics of the ear in hearing system fitting.
The TruAcoustics method is based on findings from the Widex development team from thousands of real-world hearing system fittings. The result for you is an overall harmonious, clear sound image and optimized perception of your own voice.
Fully Automatic Best Hearing and Understanding in Every Listening Situation
The intelligent universal automatic system is the core of WIDEX MOMENT: It seamlessly controls all functions of the hearing system, ensuring that you enjoy the best possible hearing experience in the various listening situations of everyday life.
Precisely adjusted to the respective listening situation: Our everyday life consists of a variety of different listening situations that flow seamlessly into one another. Each listening situation presents its own unique challenges for signal processing in the hearing system. The MOMENT hearing system clearly recognizes which listening situation you are in. Based on this, the automatic system ensures tailor-made configuration of all hearing aid functions for the respective listening situation. The hearing system settings work seamlessly and imperceptibly for you in changing listening environments.
The universal automatic system assigns all everyday listening situations to a specific sound world category. The classification of listening situations into these so-called Sound Classes allows the hearing system not to focus solely on maximum audibility, but to weight audibility and hearing comfort according to the requirements of the listening situation.
The hearing system classes, which enable differentiation between the same listening situation with and without speech, offer additional fine-tuning. Sound Classes with speech, for example, provide increased audibility and more sound contrast through speech enhancement, while Sound Classes without speech focus on greater hearing comfort or an overall quieter, softer sound image.
Universal program with 11 Sound Classes: precise, natural adaptation to every listening situation.
Overview of Sound Classes for the Universal Automatic System:
- Social: Optimizes the hearing system for listening in situations with multiple conversation partners in moderate background noise, e.g., dinner with family or business meetings.
- Music (classical): Optimizes the hearing system for music characterized by medium to high intensity and large variations in volume or frequency.
- Music (contemporary): Optimizes the hearing system for music characterized by high intensity and low variations in volume or frequency.
- Vehicle with speech: Optimizes the hearing system for situations with a dominant speaker and monotonous low-frequency background noise, e.g., car, train, airplane.

Individual Sound Adjustment in the Current Listening Situation
With the MySound functions, WIDEX MOMENT offers unique possibilities to adjust the sound image of the hearing system directly to individual sound preferences in the current listening situation. Widex relies on the intelligence of machine learning, a field of computer science that deals with the artificial generation of knowledge from experience.
MySound for individual sound adjustment with the MOMENT app
In the MySound menu of the MOMENT app, two attractive options are available for sound individualization. The SoundSense Learn function intuitively guides you through an A/B comparison of different sound profiles to your personalized hearing experience. MySound also offers you the option to select an automatic sound recommendation. The sound recommendations are based on data on sound preferences in different listening situations from SoundSense Learn users worldwide. Regardless of your listening situation, MySound can provide an accurate recommendation and offer you a personalized hearing experience quickly and easily. MySound is exclusively available for the Bluetooth models mRIC RD, RIC 312 D, and BTE 13 D.
Artificial intelligence for better hearing
Whether it's finding what you like more easily thanks to personalized purchase recommendations from online retailers or using voice assistants like Apple's Siri – machine learning already makes many areas of our lives easier. Widex uses the intelligence of machine learning for better hearing.
True-to-Life Reproduction of the Entire Sound Spectrum
A hearing experience with WIDEX MOMENT knows no bounds. Enjoy natural communication in all listening situations and music enjoyment with the highest sound dynamics.
True-to-life sound reproduction from quiet to loud: For clear speech understanding and dynamic music enjoyment, it is crucial that the hearing system captures and processes a wide sound spectrum from quiet to loud true to life. The unique transmission bandwidth of WIDEX MOMENT ensures that you can even hear quiet whispers and that speech is recognized and processed without distortion, even in very loud listening environments. Experience music in brilliant, distortion-free sound.
Natural hearing from deep to high tones: A super-wideband transmission from deep to high frequencies – from 70 Hz to 10 kHz – ensures a lively, clear sound and guarantees that important sounds of speech or music are authentically preserved.
Based on the processing of natural hearing: Incoming acoustic signals are divided into different tonal ranges (frequencies) so that they can subsequently be processed to best compensate for individual hearing loss in different listening situations. The finer the processing, the clearer and more natural the sound image, and the better the adaptation to your individual needs. At Widex, the maximum is processing in 15 frequency bands or channels. Widex thus follows the division of the human cochlea, where a specific section of hair cells is reserved for each pitch.
From quiet, fine tones to the powerful sound of an orchestra: WIDEX MOMENT offers a unique transmission bandwidth from quiet (5 dB) to loud (113 dB peak level).
Relaxed Speech Understanding in Noisy Environments
One of the biggest challenges in everyday hearing is following conversations in noisy environments with multiple speakers without stress, e.g., in a restaurant, at conferences, or at family celebrations. WIDEX MOMENT combines unique functions to suppress background noise and make speech clearly audible.
Patented speech enhancement for relaxed understanding: A noisy listening environment consists of a variety of different sound types. Using various parameters, the hearing system checks in real-time which types of sound are present in the current listening environment and clearly identifies speech signals.
Disturbing background noises are suppressed. To optimize speech in noisy environments, the hearing system automatically adjusts its amplification so that speech is least obscured by background noise and remains clearly audible when the noise level is reduced. The speech enhancement developed by Widex additionally enhances speech clearly above the reduced background noise.
Supports focused listening: Similar to natural hearing, the hearing systems in both ears are coordinated and can adjust differently depending on which side you are being addressed. The hearing system facing the conversation partner enhances speech, while the other reduces background noise. This makes it easier for you to hear your conversation partner amidst the hubbub of voices.
Hear speech from all directions: A highly adaptable multi-microphone system with speech tracking ensures that speech is audible from all directions.
Brilliant Sound with Natural Hearing Comfort
Crucial for a natural hearing sensation is hearing comfort in both loud and quiet listening environments. Thanks to its comprehensive sound analysis function, WIDEX MOMENT is able to process individual sound types in such a differentiated way that a hearing sensation close to natural hearing is possible.
Natural hearing in quiet environments: WIDEX MOMENT enables authentic perception of quiet sounds and quiet speech. However, practice shows that quiet, monotonous noises, such as the hum of a refrigerator or the whirring of a fan, are perceived as disturbing by hearing aid wearers. The hearing system reduces these quiet background noises without impairing the audibility of valuable quiet sounds – such as rustling leaves, quiet birdsong, or quiet speech.
Comfort with loud sounds: Real-time noise reduction generally ensures comfortable hearing in noisy environments. So-called impulse noises, such as clinking glasses, clattering dishes, or slamming doors, are reliably detected and reproduced at a pleasant volume without impairing speech transmission.
Enjoy outdoor activities: Wind noise can impair hearing enjoyment during outdoor activities such as cycling or hiking, sailing, or shopping in the city. WIDEX MOMENT, in addition to noise reduction, provides maximum hearing comfort with a special SmartWind Manager. The innovative hearing system not only specifically eliminates the noise of the wind generated at the microphones but also improves speech intelligibility. This means that in a listening situation with wind and speech, only the wind noise is eliminated. Studies show a significant improvement in speech intelligibility.* Fascinatingly, this function only eliminates wind noise and preserves valuable natural sounds, such as the sound of waves at the sea.
Spatial Sound and Secure Orientation
With WIDEX MOMENT, you experience a fascinating spatial soundscape and can precisely locate the direction of a sound source – for greater safety, e.g., in road traffic.
Directional hearing: For better localization of sound sources or speech, a highly adaptable multi-microphone system is used. It is capable of recognizing speech in different frequency bands and automatically adjusting to speech.
Replication of the ear canal effect: For the localization of sound sources from the front or back, the shape of the outer ear plays a crucial role in natural hearing. The ear canal effect is replicated and, in combination with a direction-dependent adjustment of the hearing system, supports spatial hearing and natural sound.
360° precise orientation: The physical position of the ears on each side of the head allows us to determine if signals are coming from the left or right. The head casts an acoustic shadow. If the sound source is, for example, on the right, we hear the sound on the left slightly quieter than on the right. The two hearing systems are coordinated and precisely replicate this effect in 15 frequency bands. Together with the replication of the ear canal effect and a 15-channel multi-microphone system, sound sources can be localized with 360° precision.
Sound Programs for Relaxation and Against Tinnitus
Approximately three million people in Germany suffer from tinnitus. A large portion of this group is disturbed by annoying ear noises and seeks practical solutions to reduce the perception of tinnitus. Based on scientific findings, Widex has developed a unique sound program that demonstrably promotes relaxation and effectively minimizes the perception of tinnitus.
Effective stress reduction: The ZEN tones minimize the contrast between tinnitus and the hearing environment. The tones are based on the scientific finding that certain musical structures, such as a slow tempo, low pitch, and the absence of emotional content, have a calming effect.
Various sound programs to choose from: You can choose from five different ZEN sounds, which are adjusted to your needs by your hearing care professional in terms of tempo, pitch, and volume. Additionally, narrow-band and broad-band noise are available for use with tinnitus.
Effectiveness scientifically proven: Studies on the suitability of ZEN tones for use with tinnitus patients show that the ZEN sound programs are a very effective sound therapy instrument for tinnitus.
