Installation
Important Safety Precautions:
- Ensure the amplifier is turned OFF and disconnected from the battery before making any connections.
- Mount the amplifier in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections to prevent overheating and performance issues.
- Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
Wiring Instructions:
- Power Connection (+12V): Connect the amplifier's +12V terminal to the positive terminal of the car battery using a fuse holder and fuse rated appropriately (refer to specifications). Use a heavy gauge wire.
- Ground Connection (GND): Connect the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the car's chassis. Use a heavy gauge wire of the shortest possible length.
- Remote Connection (REM): Connect the amplifier's REM terminal to the remote turn-on lead of your head unit. This will turn the amplifier on and off with the head unit.
- Speaker Connections: Connect the speaker outputs from the amplifier to your speakers, observing correct polarity (+ and -). Refer to the wiring diagram for specific channel configurations.
- Input Connections: Connect the RCA outputs from your head unit to the RCA inputs on the amplifier.
Mounting:
When mounting the amplifier, ensure there is adequate airflow around it. Avoid drilling into the vehicle's gas tank, gas lines, or electrical lines. Securely mount the amplifier using screws in a location that will not be subjected to excessive vibration or impact.
Operation
Setting Gains:
The gain controls do not function as volume controls. They are used to match the output voltage of your head unit to the input sensitivity of the amplifier. Set the gain as low as possible while achieving the desired listening volume. This helps to minimize noise and distortion.
Using Filters:
- Low Pass Filter (LPF): Use this filter to allow only frequencies below a certain point to pass through to the speakers. Typically used for subwoofers.
- High Pass Filter (HPF): Use this filter to allow only frequencies above a certain point to pass through. Typically used for mid-range and tweeter speakers.
- Subsonic Filter: This filter removes very low frequencies that can damage speakers or cause distortion.
- Bass Boost: This feature allows you to increase the output level of low frequencies. Use with caution to avoid damaging speakers.
Volt Meter:
The built-in volt meter displays the system voltage, allowing you to monitor the power supply to the amplifier.
Protection Features
The KRYPTON F5 is equipped with protection circuits to prevent damage:
- Thermal Protection: Shuts down the amplifier if it overheats. Allow it to cool down before restarting.
- DC Offset Protection: Protects speakers from DC current if the amplifier malfunctions.
- Short Circuit Protection: Protects the amplifier from speaker output short circuits.
The LED indicator will show the status of these protection circuits.
Troubleshooting
No Sound: Check all connections, ensure the head unit is on, and verify the amplifier's power and ground connections. Check protection indicators.
Distorted Sound: Lower the gain settings. Check speaker connections and impedance.
Amplifier Turns Off: Check for overheating (thermal protection) or short circuits. Ensure adequate ventilation and proper wiring gauge.
