Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: Prolonged exposure to high volume levels may cause hearing damage. Use hearing protection when operating the amplifier at extreme volumes. Always maintain a safe listening volume while driving to ensure awareness of traffic sounds.

  • Securely mount the amplifier to prevent injury or damage during sudden maneuvers.
  • Never open the unit; refer servicing to authorized Rockville service centers.
  • Avoid exposing the unit to moisture.
  • Ensure the unit is installed in a well-ventilated area.

Installation and Wiring

Before installation, disconnect the negative terminal of your car's battery. The RVF-2 operates on 12-volt negative ground systems only. Plan your system layout before beginning.

Mount the amplifier in the trunk or hatch area, avoiding the engine compartment or firewall. Ensure adequate airflow around the heat sink. When mounting, be mindful of the vehicle's gas tank, lines, and electrical components.

Wiring:

  • Connect the GND terminal to a secure ground point using 8-gauge or heavier wire.
  • Connect the REM terminal to the head unit's remote output or power antenna lead.
  • Connect the +12V terminal to the car battery's positive terminal using 0-gauge or heavier wire, incorporating an in-line fuse holder within 18 inches of the battery.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and check wire gauge suitability. Periodically tighten power and ground connections.
  • Never replace fuses with higher-rated ones.

Settings and Configuration

Adjust crossover points and input sensitivity (GAIN) carefully. The GAIN control is not a volume control; it matches the source unit's output to the amplifier's input. Proper gain setting is crucial to avoid distortion and noise.

Use high-quality, shielded RCA cables, running them on the opposite side of the vehicle from power and ground wires.

The RVF-2 features adjustable low-pass and high-pass crossovers. Refer to the manual for specific frequency settings for various audio configurations (4-channel, 3-channel, bridged, mixed mono).
