Connect to Audio Equipment
This section illustrates how to connect audio equipment to the HA-3A amplifier.
Diagram: A connection diagram shows the HA-3A amplifier connected to a CS-100CD CD player via XLR and RCA cables.
BALANCE Socket: Uses XLR input for balanced signal transfer, offering enhanced reliability.
USA System Pinout (XLR): ① PIN1: GND; ② PIN2: HOT; ③ PIN3: COLD.
European System Pinout (XLR): ① PIN1: GND; ② PIN2: COLD; ③ PIN3: HOT.
Note: This amplifier uses the USA System. Using a European system XLR connector may result in an inverse signal. Ensure correct phase setup.
Attention to Audio Connection:
- Refer to the manual of associated equipment when necessary.
- Do not connect the power cord until all equipment is properly connected.
- 'R' indicates the right channel; 'L' indicates the left channel.
- Ensure all connectors are securely installed. Poor connections can cause noise, degrade audio performance, or damage equipment.
- Do not run power cords, audio interconnects, and speaker cables parallel to each other, as this can adversely affect audio performance.
- Ensure '+' and '-', left and right channels are connected properly.
Connect to Headphones
The HA-3A offers three types of headphone outputs: 4-pin XLR for balanced, 4.4mm Balanced, and 6.35mm for single-ended use.
Single-ended Headphone Connection: Uses the 6.35mm headphone input. A 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter is required for headphones with a 3.5mm connector.
4.4mm Balanced Headphone Connection: Uses the 4.4mm headphone input. A 2.5mm to 4.4mm adapter is required for headphones with a 2.5mm connector.
XLR Balance Headphone Connections: Uses the 4-pin XLR headphone input. Adapters may be required for dual XLR (3-pin), 4.4mm, or 2.5mm balanced headphone connectors.
IMPEDANCE Matched Output: The HA-3A provides three impedance settings (L: 8~64Ω, M: 65~250Ω, H: 251~600Ω) to match a wide range of headphone impedances for optimal performance. It is safe to try different impedance settings.
Attention:
- Balanced headphones can be used with single-ended outputs via an appropriate converter.
- Do not plug single-ended headphones into the XLR4 balanced headphone output, as this can damage the headphone or amplifier.
- Turn the volume to the minimum when exchanging headphones.

Basic Operation
Ensure all connections are correct and the power supply is stable before turning on the amplifier.
- Turn on the amplifier; the power indicator will light up.
- When the power indicator is steadily lit, the amplifier is ready for operation. If it does not light up, the amplifier may be malfunctioning; turn off the power and contact your dealer.
- The tubes' regulated power supply may take 30-60 seconds to ramp up. Ting-ting noise from headphones or speakers during this time is normal.
- Vacuum tubes may require 10 minutes of warm-up for optimum performance.
- Select the input source: XLR for balanced input, RCA for single-ended input.
- For single-ended headphones: Insert the 6.35mm connector into the STANDARD output and set the selector to STA.
- For 4.4mm balanced headphones: Insert the 4.4mm connector into the 4.4 BAL. output and set the selector to 4.4 BAL.
- For 4-pin XLR balanced headphones: Insert the XLR4 connector into the 4 PIN BAL. output and set the selector to 4 PIN BAL.
- Select the appropriate impedance output (L, M, or H) based on your headphone specifications for optimized performance.
- Adjust the volume to an appropriate level and enjoy your music.
Attention:
- Do not disconnect interconnects while the amplifier is operating, as this may damage the amplifier or associated equipment.
- You can swap headphones during playback. To protect your hearing and sensitive headphones, turn the volume down to 0 before unplugging or plugging in headphones.
- If the amplifier has been turned off, wait 2 minutes before turning it back on to avoid damaging the vacuum tubes.
Maintenance
- Read the Manual: Operate the amplifier correctly by carefully reading this user manual to understand product features and safety precautions.
- Keep the Manual: Keep this manual for future reference.
- Signage: Do not tear off or rub away the serial number.
- Operation: Follow the operations in this manual strictly.
- Accessories: If using non-factory supplied accessories (e.g., power cords, fuses), ensure they are compatible with safety requirements to avoid damage from improper usage.
- Placement: The amplifier is heavy, and vacuum tubes are fragile. Place the amplifier on a stable, flat surface, preferably a sturdy cabinet or rack. Insecure placement can lead to damage and household accidents.
- Power Supply: Ensure your household AC power supply matches the amplifier's power requirement. Contact your authorized dealer or local power supply institutions if uncertain.
- Overloading: When connecting to a power strip or multi-socket, ensure the total load is within safety limits. Overloaded connections can lead to electric shock or fire.
- Warranty Service: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the machine; this voids the warranty and may expose you to electric shock.
- Troubleshooting: If you encounter abnormal behavior during setup or playback, refer to the troubleshooting tips in this manual. If problems persist, contact your authorized dealer for technical support.
