- Turn the speed control knob to the "0" position. Unplug the stand mixer.
- Lift the motor head. To raise the flat beater, turn the screw slightly counterclockwise (left). To lower the flat beater, turn the screw clockwise (right). Adjust the flat beater so that it is just above the bowl surface. If the screw is overtightened, the bowl lock lever may not lock into place.
NOTE: With proper adjustment, the flat beater will not hit the bottom or sides of the bowl. If the flat beater or whisk hits the bottom of the bowl, the coating on the beater or the wires of the whisk may wear.

Problem | Solution |
---|---|
Stand mixer heats up during operation: | Large quantities of product should not be processed at speeds higher than 2. When mixing large quantities for extended periods, touching the top of the appliance may not be comfortable. This is normal. |
Stand mixer emits an unpleasant odor: | This is typical for electric motors, especially when new. |
Flat beater hits the bowl: | Stop the stand mixer. Refer to the "Beater to Bowl Clearance" section. Adjust the clearance between the beater and the bowl. |
If your stand mixer does not operate, check the following: | Is the stand mixer plugged into the outlet? Is the fuse in the stand mixer's electrical circuit intact? If you have a fuse box, check that the circuit breakers are not tripped. Turn off the stand mixer for 10-15 seconds, then turn it back on. If the stand mixer still does not start, wait 30 minutes for it to cool down, then try starting it again. |
If the problem cannot be resolved: | Refer to the "KitchenAid Warranty Conditions" ("Warranty"). Do not return the stand mixer to the retailer, as retailers do not provide service. |
