The router features an indicator light that stays on steadily when power is connected and a Wi-Fi Protected Setup connection is successful. It blinks slowly during bootup, firmware upgrades, and Wi-Fi Protected Setup connections. It blinks quickly if there is a Wi-Fi Protected Setup error.

- Adjustable Antennas: Two external antennas are included and adjustable for optimal performance. For best performance, position them vertically at a 90° angle.
- Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ button: Press this button to easily configure wireless security on Wi-Fi Protected Setup-enabled network devices.
- USB ports: Connect and share a USB drive or a USB printer.
- Ethernet ports: Connect Ethernet cables to the blue gigabit ports (10/100/1000) and to wired Ethernet network devices. Use CAT5E or higher rated cables for best performance.
- Internet port: Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to this yellow port.
- Reset button: Press and hold for 10 seconds (until port lights blink simultaneously) to reset the router to factory defaults. You can also restore defaults using Linksys Smart Wi-Fi.
- Power port: Connect the included AC power adapter.
- Power button: Press to turn the router on.

How to install your router
- If replacing an existing router, disconnect it. Power on the new router.
- Connect the Internet cable from your modem to the yellow Internet port on the router. Wait for the power light to become solid.
- Connect to the secure wireless name provided in the Quick Start Guide. You can change the network name and password later. Refer to your device documentation CD for connection assistance. Note: Internet access is not available until router setup is complete.
- Open a web browser and follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. If instructions don't appear, enter
linksyssmartwifi.com
in the browser's address bar. - Follow on-screen instructions to set up your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. Use Linksys Smart Wi-Fi to manage settings like router name/password, guest access, parental controls, device connections, and internet speed tests.
NOTE: You will receive a verification email for your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. Open it and click the provided link.
How to use Linksys Smart Wi-Fi
Linksys Smart Wi-Fi allows you to configure your router from any computer with an internet connection.
How to connect to Linksys Smart Wi-Fi
- Click the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi icon on your desktop, or open a web browser and go to
www.linksyssmartwifi.com
. - Enter your email address and password, then click 'Log in'.
The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi interface allows you to manage your network, including connecting new devices, setting parental controls, accessing mobile apps, and more.
How to change router settings
Use Linksys Smart Wi-Fi to change router settings and set up features like parental controls and guest access.
NOTE: Click 'Help' on any menu for additional assistance.
- Open Linksys Smart Wi-Fi and log in.
- Select an option from the left-hand menu.
- Device List: View and manage all network devices connected to your router, including those on the main and guest networks. You can disconnect devices or view their information.
- Guest Access: Configure a network for guests to access the internet without accessing your network resources.
- Parental Controls: Block websites and set internet access times for specific devices.
- Media Prioritization: Prioritize devices and applications for optimal network traffic performance, especially for streaming and real-time media.
- Speed Test: Test your network's internet connection speed.
- USB Storage: Access an attached USB drive (not included) for file sharing, media server, and FTP access.
Troubleshooting
Your router was not successfully set up
If Linksys Smart Wi-Fi did not complete setup, try the following:
- Press and hold the Reset button on your router with a paperclip or pin for about 10 seconds until the LED blinks, then try installing the router again.
- Temporarily disable your computer's firewall (refer to security software instructions) and install the router again.
- If you have another computer, use it to install the router.
Windows XP Service Pack update: Linksys Smart Wi-Fi requires Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. If your current Service Pack is older than version 3, download and install Service Pack 3. You can use an Ethernet cable to connect directly to your modem for temporary internet access to download the update. Visit update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate to install Service Pack 3.
Your Internet cable is not plugged in message
If you receive this message during setup, follow these steps:
- Ensure the Ethernet or Internet cable is securely connected to the router's yellow Internet port and the modem's appropriate port (usually labeled Ethernet, Internet, or WAN).
- Verify your modem is powered on and connected to power.
- If using cable internet, ensure the modem's CABLE port is connected to the coaxial cable. If using DSL, ensure the DSL phone line is connected to the modem's DSL port.
- If your computer was previously connected to the modem via USB, disconnect the USB cable.
- Reinstall the router.
Cannot access your router message
If you cannot access your router because your computer is not connected to your network, follow these steps:
For Windows computers:
- Right-click the wireless icon in the system tray on your Windows desktop.
- Click 'View Available Wireless Networks'.
- Select your network name and click 'Connect'. If prompted, enter your network key (password).
For Mac computers:
- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
- Select your Linksys E-Series router's network name (e.g., BronzeEagle).
- Enter your wireless network password (Security Key) and click 'OK'.
Your computer should connect to the network, allowing you to access the router.
