R45C Analog Output to IO-Link Device Converter

Brand: Banner Engineering

Document Type: Quick Start Guide

Introduction

This guide provides instructions for setting up and installing the R45C Analog Output to IO-Link Device Converter. For comprehensive details on programming, performance, troubleshooting, dimensions, and accessories, consult the full Instruction Manual available at www.bannerengineering.com. Search for part number 223052 to access the manual. Familiarity with pertinent industry standards and practices is assumed.

Key features include:

  • A compact analog to IO-Link device converter that outputs an analog value (voltage or current) as presented by the IO-Link Master.
  • A rugged, over-molded design meeting IP65, IP67, and IP68 environmental ratings.
  • Direct connection capability to a sensor or in-line for simplified installation.

Overview

Analog Output

The R45C converter enables users to output an analog value by transmitting the numerical analog value received from the IO-Link Master via Process Data Out (PDO).

PDO Analog Ranges:

  • Voltage: 0 mV to 11,000 mV
  • Current: 0 µA to 24,000 µA

PDO Outside Valid Range (POVR)

If the PDO value sent to the converter falls outside the defined PDO Analog Range, the actual analog output value will be set to one of three selectable POVR levels after a 2-second delay:

  • Low (default): 0 V or 3.5 mA
  • High: 10.5 V or 20.5 mA
  • Hold: The output level retains its previous value indefinitely.

Note: If a connected IO-Link sensor is switched back to SIO mode, the previous output value will be held.

Status Indicators

The R45C Analog Output to IO-Link Device Converter is equipped with two amber LED indicators on each side for IO-Link and analog communications, facilitating installation and visibility. A green LED on each side indicates the device's power status.

IO-Link Amber LED

IndicationStatus
OffIO-Link communications are not present
Flashing Amber (900 ms On, 100 ms Off)IO-Link communications are active

Analog Out Amber LED

IndicationStatus
OffTurns off if written PDO analog value is outside the allowable output range
Solid AmberTurns on if written PDO analog value is inside the allowable output range

Allowable Current Range: 0 mA to 24 mA

Allowable Voltage Range: 0 V to 11 V

Mechanical Installation

Install the R45C to ensure access for functional checks, maintenance, service, or replacement. Avoid installing the R45C in a manner that allows for intentional defeat.

Mounting hardware is not supplied and must be provided by the user. Fasteners must be of sufficient strength to prevent breakage. The use of permanent fasteners or locking hardware is recommended to prevent loosening or displacement of the device. The mounting hole (4.5 mm) in the R45C accepts M4 (#8) hardware. Refer to the figure below for guidance on determining minimum screw length.

Diagram Description: Diagram illustrating mounting hole specifications. Features a 4.5 mm diameter hole. Includes a counterbore of 3.9 mm depth and a screw head fitting depth of 12.9 mm. A minimum of 3 mm thread engagement is required, indicated by an asterisk and text stating '* for minimum engagement of three threads'. A nut is also shown. The formula for screw length is provided: 12.9 mm + "X" mm + 3 mm.

Specifications

⚠️ CAUTION: Do not overtighten the R45C's mounting screw during installation. Overtightening can affect the performance of the R45C.
