Important Warnings and Safety Information
General Warnings
- ⚠️ DO NOT open. No user serviceable parts inside.
- ODDMF inline fans are intended for indoor use only.
- Install with duct on inlet and duct and/or fan silencer on exhaust.
- Speed control MUST be connected for the fans to function.
- Ensure the product is unplugged from the electrical outlet before relocating, servicing, or cleaning.
Application Notice
- For general ventilation use only.
- Install guard screens if personnel have access to inlet or exhaust.
- ❌ DO NOT use to exhaust hazardous explosive materials and vapours.
- Ensure the fan is switched off from the supply mains before removing guards.
- Precautions must be taken to avoid back-flow of gases; a check valve is necessary.
- To disconnect, turn the unit off, grip the plug, and pull from the wall outlet. NEVER pull by the cord.
Cautions
- ❌ DO NOT pull the cord too hard; it could damage and fray. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid electrical hazards.
- ❌ DO NOT allow the power cord or fan parts to touch hot surfaces, open flames, cooking appliances, or place near hot gas or electric burners.
- Turn the unit off when moving or before cleaning.
- ❌ DO NOT operate if the housing is damaged.
- Ensure all packaging is removed and the voltage used corresponds to the rating plate.
- ❌ DO NOT cover openings or insert objects/body parts into openings when the fan is on or off.
- To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the unit, plug, or cord in water or other liquids.
- Keep cords away from areas where they could be walked on or tripped over.
Prohibited Use Cases
- ❌ DO NOT use in environments with significant dust.
- ❌ DO NOT use in environments with humidity above 90%.
- ❌ DO NOT operate in temperatures below -10°C or above +60°C.
- ❌ DO NOT use in places where children or pets have easy access to the fan blades.
- ❌ DO NOT use in flammable or hazardous atmospheres, near explosive gases, or chemical dust.
Safety Precautions
Electrical products can cause death, injury, or property damage. If in doubt about installation or use, consult a competent technician.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Wipe the unit and blades with a damp cloth.
- ❌ DO NOT spray water or liquid on or into the fan.
- ❌ DO NOT use cloths with metal parts.
- Clean the unit regularly to ensure blades move freely.
- ❌ DO NOT use cleaning detergents or chemicals.
- NEVER immerse in water or let water enter the fan controller outlet.
- ❌ DO NOT clean while the unit is switched on. Turn off and unplug the unit first.
Features
This EC Mix Flow Inline Fan is powered by a cutting-edge EC motor, featuring high static air pressure, aerodynamically-optimized airflow, quiet operation, and extremely high efficiency. They are ideal for residential, commercial, and industrial ventilation, and even hydroponic ventilation (exhaust and intake). Multiple Speed Control Signals are available (Potentiometer; PWM; 0-10V, Tachometer).
Installation Guide
WARNING: MUST CONNECT SECURELY TO SPEED CONTROL BEFORE POWER UP.
- ❌ DO NOT deform fan bracket or fan housing.
- ❌ DO NOT install fan on sheet rock or weak surfaces.
- Always install the fan at a height of 2.1 meters (approx. 7 feet) or above.
- Unpack and check the fan for damage. Ensure the fan impeller spins freely and does not touch the fan housing.
- Use a pre-filter on the intake to prevent dust, oil, and other foreign substances from building up on the impeller. Impeller build-up can cause imbalance and excessive vibration, reducing fan lifetime.
- Use appropriate attachment screws for the surface material. Use the supplied mounting bracket or hanger.
- After completing installation, electrical work, and duct work, perform a test operation to confirm normal fan function.
- After turning the power on, the fan should rotate freely and build speed normally. If there is abnormal noise or no rotation, check all connections and power supply.
Wall Mounted Installation
Diagram Description: A visual guide showing the steps for wall mounting:
- Mark screw positions on the wall.
- Punch holes in the wall.
- Screw the fan onto the wall.
- Connect ducts to both sides using clamps.
- Connect the speed control to the fan, ensuring the connection is secure.
- Power up the fan.
Hang Installation
Diagram Description: A visual guide showing fans suspended from a ceiling or frame using hangers, with ductwork connected.
Product Diagram
Diagram Description: A schematic illustrating the inline fan's components. It shows the fan housing with an impeller inside, connected to inlet ducting on one side and exhaust ducting on the other. The speed control interface, power cord, and mounting bracket are also indicated.
Fan Controls
Ortech ODDMF Inline Series Fans are compatible with various speed control methods.
Standard Control Options
All EC fans come with a portable variable speed controller or a wall-mounted controller.
- Portable Speed Controller: Simple and portable, offering 0-100% variable speed control via a potentiometer.
- Wall Mounted Controller: Fits into in-wall installations and provides a 0-100% variable speed control range.
DIY 4-Pins Control
The EC fan with multi-speed control signals is packed with a DIY 4-pin connection cable.
Diagram Description: A wiring diagram for the 4-pin connector. It shows connections for Ground (GND), +10V, TACH, and 0-10/PWM signals, with corresponding wire colors: Black (GND), Red (+10V), Yellow (TACH), and Blue (0-10/PWM).
Speed Control Methods
- Speed Control via 0-10V: Connects via a Red wire (+10V) and Blue wire (0-10V signal).
- Speed Control via PWM: Connects via a Red wire (+10V) and Blue wire (PWM signal, max 10mA).
- Speed Control via POT (Potentiometer): Connects via a Red wire (12V), Blue wire (signal), and Black wire (GND), typically using a 10K potentiometer.
Optional Controls & Accessories
Ortech EC fans offer flexibility and compatibility with various accessories for enhanced control:
