Seatpost Installation
Step 1: Couple the Custom Headless Screw M8 (N. 5.1) with V5Rs Seatpost Pushing Block (N. 5.2), inserting the flat end into the clamp as shown.
Step 2: With the frame vertical, gently insert the assembled seatpost clamp into the frame, centering the screw with its seat, to prevent the clamp from falling into the frame.
Step 3: Secure the clamp to the frame by screwing counter-clockwise (unscrewing).
Step 4: Fit the V5Rs seatpost (N.3) with the custom V5Rs Rubber Grommet (N.6) and insert it into the seat tube. After adjusting saddle height, apply 7 Nm torque to prevent sliding.
Note: Apply carbon assembly compound to the inner face of the seat tube and to the carbon seatpost. After installation, support the frame and bicycle using the seatpost only. Clamping the top tube may cause damage and void the frame warranty.
Saddle Clamp Installation
The saddle clamp kit includes both socket and hex head M6x40 front screws. The socket head version is recommended for mounting closed saddles.
Note: The seatpost 0-offset must be fixed with the two bolts from the bottom, featuring dedicated spherical washers (N. 4.5).
Front Axle Installation
Front 100 mm thru-axle: 6 mm hex head, TORQUE 10 Nm. Apply the Colnago Logo round adhesive sticker.
UDH – Rear Derailleur Hanger Installation
UDH Hanger: TORQUE 10 Nm
UDH Hanger - Washer
UDH Hanger - Cap: TORQUE 25 Nm
Ensure contact between the frame and UDH hanger in the highlighted area.
Front Derailleur Hanger Installation
Front Derailleur Hanger: TORQUE 3 Nm
M5x15 Flat head screw: TORQUE 3 Nm
Non-drilled cap Di2
Drilled cap Di2
Fork and Headset Installation
Note: For integrated cockpit CC.01 mounting, refer to the specific CC.01 instruction manual.
Step 1: Apply specific grease to bearing seats and insert the two bearings (N.13 Bottom and N.12 Top), the Compression Ring (N.14), and the V5Rs Dust Cover (N.15).
Step 2: Once the fork steering tube is cut to the proper length for the desired number of spacers, insert and fix the D-Shape Expander (N.18, Torque 7 Nm) and the D-Shape Plug (N.17) into the steering tube.
Step 3: Verify the fork is cut 2-3 mm below the cockpit or top spacer top surface. Align the D-shape Expander (N.18) and D-shape Plug (N.17) with the steering tube cut surface.
Step 4: Use the top cap (N.20) and the M6x30 screw (N.21) to apply the required preload.
Di2 Battery Support Assembly
Step 1: Fit the V5Rs Di2 battery holder (N.23) with the standard zip tight (N.24), without fully locking it.
Step 2: Insert the V5Rs Di2 battery holder into the bottom bracket, aligning its direction with the downtube and the hole below the bottom bracket.
Step 3: Insert the Di2 battery from the bottom, positioning the V5Rs Battery Holder (N.23) in the center of the battery. Then, fix the zip tight to prevent battery sliding.
Step 4: Push the Di2 battery and the Battery holder into the downtube, just above the bottom bracket, to ease future removal. After fitting the battery into the frame, close the hole below the bottom bracket using the Battery Rubber cap (N.22).
Brake Hose Routing
It is recommended to install the rear hydraulic brake hose before electric wires. These routing illustrations supplement installation instructions. For specific brake systems, refer to the component manufacturer's service center or website.
To avoid noises, always install the rear brake hose foam, cut to the frame size, to prevent interference with other subassemblies.
To ease the procedure, route brake hoses before installing the headset and Di2 battery. Once the rear brake hose is routed in the downtube, use a dedicated wiring tool with a magnet to pull it through the preload bolt hole.
Electric Di2 Wire Routing
Colnago recommends installing electric cables and junction points after brake hoses. The routing schematics supplement the groupset manufacturers' installation instructions. For detailed information, refer to the manufacturers' technical manual, website, or service center.
Tire Clearance
Colnago frames and forks comply with ISO 4210-2 for tire clearance. For off-road categories, a minimum of 4 mm clearance must remain between the tire and the frame or fork. Tire width and diameter can vary based on brand, rim geometry, dimensions, and inflation pressure. Colnago recommends checking and respecting minimum clearance before selecting tires.
Maximum Allowed Tire: 32 mm with 4 mm tire clearance.
Note: Contact between the tire and frame/fork may cause component failure, leading to serious injury. Damage due to non-compliant tire clearance is not covered by warranty.
Intended Use for Colnago V5Rs
Road Racing Bicycle – Specific for races and expert users
Intended surface: Designed for riding on paved surfaces with tires always in contact with the ground.
Not Intended surfaces and uses: Not conceived for off-road, cyclocross, touring with extra bags/racks, or child seats/trailers.
The Colnago V5Rs is designed for lightweight and aerodynamic performance, intended for expert racers and competitive cyclists. It offers maximum performance over a relatively short product life. The racing-oriented position requires advanced riding skills for safe operation, especially on open roads. Light frames and components need frequent inspection and are prone to damage or breakage in a crash.
Warning: Any abuse in usage is hazardous and may lead to serious consequences.
Weight Limit
Colnago bicycles are tested to a maximum admissible mass* of 110kg.
COLNAGO V5Rs Max Admissible Mass: 110kg - 242.5lbs
Note: Each component has different weight limits. Replacing components can alter the maximum safe bike weight limit. Consult your Colnago retailer for suitable components for your V5Rs.
*Maximum admissible mass includes the bicycle, all components, the rider, and any luggage or accessory.
Torque and Fasteners Recommendation
Maintaining correct tightening torques for all threaded fasteners is crucial for safety. Over-tightening can deform fasteners; under-tightening can lead to loosening and fatigue failures. Use a calibrated torque wrench and follow its instructions. Before assembly, grease all threads with a quality, non-lithium grease, unless the bolt is pre-coated with thread locker. Do not use both grease and thread locker.
Colnago recommends using carbon assembly compound/friction paste for clamping areas on carbon fiber (seatpost-to-frame, stem-to-fork, handlebar-to-stem). This paste reduces corrosion and the required clamping force.
Warning: In case of doubt or conflict with supplier literature, contact a Colnago retailer for clarification before proceeding with installation.
Torque Setting Table
Colnago prioritizes frame resistance and quality. Using a torque wrench ensures proper conservation and durability.
Reasons to Use a Torque Wrench:
- Prevents over-tightening (causing damage) and under-tightening (causing loosening and fatigue failures). Overtightening damage is not covered by warranty.
- Ensures safety by preventing incorrect installation failures.
- Extends lifespan of frameset and components through proper maintenance.
*The presented table includes torque setting indications provided by Colnago. Always check indications from specific component manufacturers.
*Tire measurements should be taken at the widest point and maximum diameter when installed on the rim and inflated for at least 24 hours. 4 mm clearance is required between the tire and any frame or fork element.
