5. Installation
Note: Growatt Grid-tied inverters are referred to as "PV inverters" and Growatt Hybrid/AC Coupled Inverters as "Hybrid Inverters".
a. Voltage sampling and power supply wiring
Wiring for voltage sampling and power supply:
- L1 voltage sampling line connects to meter Pin 4.
- L2 voltage sampling line connects to meter Pin 3.
- L3 voltage sampling line connects to meter Pin 2.
- N voltage sampling line connects to meter Pin 1.
b. Current transformer wiring
Wiring should follow the diagram. Current flows from K to L (grid to load).
- L1 CT: White Line to meter Pin 20, Black Line to meter Pin 19.
- L2 CT: White Line to meter Pin 18, Black Line to meter Pin 17.
- L3 CT: White Line to meter Pin 16, Black Line to meter Pin 15.
c. RS485 wiring
Connect RS485 A to Pin 14 and RS485 B to Pin 13. Use 568B standard network cable. White-orange cable is 485B, white-blue cable is 485A.
d. Installing a Hybrid Inverter
Diagram shows connection for Hybrid Inverter, including RS485, GRID, EPS, ATS-T, Load Breaker, and Grid-N connections. The meter is shown with numbered pins for voltage and current inputs, and RS485 connections.
e. Installing a PV Inverter
For PV Inverters, cut off the RJ45 modular plug. Crimp accessory terminals onto two cables and insert them into the corresponding interface of the inverter's 8-pin signal connector.
f. Connecting the 8-pin signal connector
Plug the 8-pin signal connector to the inverter. [CLICK!] The Inverter Side.
g. RS485 cable length
The standard RS485 cable length is 15m. For longer runs, use an Ethernet coupler. Ensure the cable is less than 100m, with a recommended length under 25m.
6. Button Definition And Display
The meter has four touch buttons: "ESC ( ← ) V/A", "↑ (Alt) MD/PH/HZ", "↓ (Shift) P", "ENTER ( → ) E". Operations can be short press (less than 1 second) or long press (more than 2 seconds).
NO. | Button | Features | Viewable content (short press) |
---|---|---|---|
1 | [ESC] | Short press: display voltage and current, Long press: ESC |
Phase voltage, Line voltage, Phase current, Neutral current, Voltage harmonics, Current harmonics |
2 | [↑] | Short press: display power factor and frequency, Long press: Alt |

4 | [ENTER] | Short press: display electric energy, Long press: Enter |
Total active electric energy, Total reactive electric energy, Forward active electric energy, Reverse active electric energy, Forward reactive electric energy, Reverse reactive electric energy |
7. Trouble Shooting
Note: The meter and SPH default communication address is 02, the baud rate is 9600, and the current ratio is 100A/40mA (determined by the CT match). If communication is not established, confirm the address and baud rate are accurate.
To enter the setting menu (default password 1000), long press [E]. Use [M] and [P] to navigate pages. If a page flashes, it can be set using [M] and [P]; otherwise, press [E] to enter. Long press [E] to confirm settings, then press [ESC] to exit.
Setting examples of current ratio: When CT1 is set to 100, the primary current is 100A (the current ratio is determined by the CT that the meter actually matches).
System Wiring Diagram: A complete system wiring diagram is provided for reference if the meter is not operating normally. The diagram shows connections for Hybrid or PV Inverters, including RS485, GRID, EPS, Load Breaker, and Grid-N. It details meter connections for voltage inputs (Pins 1-4) and current inputs (via CTs to Pins 15-20), and RS485 communication (Pins 13-14). It also shows Grid Side, Load Breaker, and On-grid load connections. The EPS port is exclusive to hybrid inverters. A detail indicates accessing the sampling line instead of the power line.
Fault phenomenon | Reason analysis | Solution |
---|---|---|
Big deviation between electric energy measurement and actual value. | 1. Wiring error, voltage and current corresponding phase sequence is wrong. 2. The output line of the current transformers is reversed. 3. The transformer ratio is not set, the meter displays the secondary data. |
1. Refer to the wiring diagram to check the wiring. 2. If the transformer ratio setting is wrong, please set the voltage ratio and current ratio correctly. 3. If the issue still exists, please contact your local supplier. |
RS485 communication error (Inverter error 401) | 1. RS485 cable is open circuit, short circuit or reversed. 2. The address, baud rate and data parity of the meter do not match the SPH. |
1. If there is a problem with the communication cable, please replace the communication cable. 2. Set the correct address, baud rate, and data bit check digit of the meter using the buttons. 3. If the issue still exists, please contact your local supplier. |
