Medical Justification Guide
The QuickTalker Freestyle (QTF) is Durable Medical Equipment (DME). As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), you need to prove to the insurance company why the QTF is a medical necessity for your client.
The image depicts a rugged, portable tablet device, the QuickTalker Freestyle (QTF). Its screen displays a grid of various icons and symbols, representing different communication categories and phrases, designed for individuals with communication impairments. The device features a handle for portability.
Information to Consider for Medical Necessity
Consider types of information that your client would not be able to access and communicate without the use of the QTF:
- Daily Communication Needs: school, home, work, etc.
- Demographic Information: name, birthday, address, etc.
- Health Information: bathroom needs, expressing injury, etc.
- Safety Information: emergency contact, reporting concern, etc.
- Medical Needs: allergies, medications, etc.
- Participating in ADL's: cooking, working, etc.
Give it all you got!
Insurance needs to know WHY your client requires the QTF, as other, less costly, methods of communication do not meet their functional communication needs.
Be sure to provide medical justification for your recommendation for the QTF within your evaluation report!
