First Flight
For the first flight, wait for a calm day with only a light breeze. A good place is a large open field, away from trees, fences, power lines and other potentially dangerous obstacles.
- Carry out a full check of the systems.
- All control surfaces respond correctly.
- Appropriate throttle response and battery voltage.
- Perform a range test if not already done.
We recommend that you ask an experienced modeller to help you hand launch the model.
- Launch the aircraft with the fuselage and wings into the wind.
- Initially let the MIG-17 fly straight and level; do not attempt to turn it when it is close to the ground.
- Adjust the trims as necessary to transition the model into a steady climb.
- Check the model's response to the transmitter's control commands. You may need to increase or decrease control surface travel when the model is back on the ground.
- Bring the aircraft to a safe altitude and check the stall speed.
- Keep the speed much higher on the approach to avoid a stall.
- If you had to adjust the trim in flight, correct the mechanical linkages before flying again. This will allow you to re-centre the trims so that full trim travel is available for subsequent flights.
