Before You Get Started

Control Elements

Unit Top/Front Side
- POWER Switch: Turns the unit on/off. Should be in the "Off" position when connecting to mains. Note: The unit may not be fully disconnected from mains when switched off; unplug for prolonged non-use.
- GAIN: Controls amp simulation level and saturation.
- VOLUME: Governs the volume of the selected preset.
- BASS: EQ control for bass frequencies. When TAP is pressed, it functions as DEEP control.
- MID: Controls mid frequencies. With TAP pressed, it adjusts MID-SHIFT/SHAPE or activates the BEHRINGER SHAPE filter.
- TREBLE: Controls upper frequency range. With TAP pressed, it functions as PRESENCE control.
- AMPS: Selects one of 32 amp simulations. LEDs indicate selection. Use TAP + AMPS for models 17-32.
- PREAMP BYPASS: Activated via TUNER + TAP key combination.
- Preset Selection Keys (A-E): Used for preset selection within a bank.
- EDIT Mode: Activated by pressing both arrow keys. Keys A-E then control DRIVE, CABINETS, X-OVER, DENOISER functions. Press TUNER/EXIT to leave EDIT mode.
- DIGITAL OUT (PRO only): Configures S/PDIF or AES/EBU format via A+B buttons. TAP key cycles sample rates (44.1, 48, 96 kHz).
- CONFIGURATION: Selects global operating mode via D+E keys (BASS V-AMP) or D+E keys (BASS V-AMP PRO). Press TUNER to exit.
- TUNER Key: Engages the tuner. Also exits EDIT mode.
- Arrow Keys (BANK DOWN/UP): Select preset banks. Pressing both enters EDIT mode.
- TAP Key: Functions include tempo synchronization, DEEP control, MID-SHIFT/SHAPE, PRESENCE control, accessing 2nd effect parameter, selecting amp models 17-32, and setting MIDI Thru.
- Compressor Control: Regulates compressor attack time when TAP is pressed.
- DISPLAY: Shows selected bank, editing status, tuning, digital format, and sample rate.
- LED Circles: Indicate control positions (up to 17 steps).
- INPUT: 1/4" TS jack for connecting instruments.
- LINE IN Switch: Selects signal source (Input connector or PRE DSP INSERT).
- PHONES: Connector for headphones. Studio mode 1 (S1) activates automatically.

- PRE DSP INSERT SEND/LINE OUT: For inserting external effects before the digital signal processor. Ideal for recording dry signals.
- RETURN/LINE IN: Connects to the output of external effects processors.
- LINE IN Switch: Routes the RETURN/LINE IN signal to the BASS V-AMP PRO.
- ANALOG LINE OUTPUTS L/R: For connecting to external stage amps or mixing consoles.

Application Examples/Operation Modes
Six operating modes (CONFIGURATION) allow adaptation to various studio and live situations. These modes can be selected independently for left and right outputs, enabling different signal routing and processing.
Selecting an Operating Mode (CONFIGURATION)
Access CONFIGURATION mode by pressing specific keys (B+D for BASS V-AMP, D+E for BASS V-AMP PRO). Use arrow keys to select modes. Press TUNER to exit. Input gain can be adjusted in this mode.
Standard Setup
For practice rooms, connect headphones to the PHONES connector. Use the included footswitch for preset selection and tuner activation. Live modes L1 and L2 are suitable for demanding live/practice use. MIDI foot controllers can manage presets, banks, and effects. The AUX IN allows feeding additional stereo signals.
Recording Situation
Studio modes S1, S2, and S3 are suitable for recording. S1 provides stereo output with effects and simulations. S2 offers two mono signals (one with simulations, one without effects). S3 allows recording a direct signal while monitoring with effects (Re-Amping). The BASS V-AMP PRO can sync with digital mixing consoles via worldclock.
Live Setup with External Bass Amplifier
Use the BASS V-AMP/BASS V-AMP PRO as a preamp with an external bass amplifier. Connect to the amp via L/AMP OUT and to the mixing console via R/DI OUT (BASS V-AMP) or ULTRA-G DI OUT (BASS V-AMP PRO). This setup offers flexibility for stage monitoring and sound options.
Presets
The BASS V-AMP/BASS V-AMP PRO features 125 rewritable presets across 25 banks (5 presets per bank). Each preset comprises amp simulation, speaker simulation, pre-amp effect, post-amp effect, and compressor settings.
Recalling Presets
The last used preset loads on power-up. Use keys A-E to recall presets within the current bank. Use arrow keys to select different banks.
Editing Presets
Recall a preset, modify controls (VOLUME, BASS, MID, TREBLE, GAIN, EFFECTS, EFFECTS MIX). Enter EDIT mode by pressing both arrow keys. Use keys B-E to access DRIVE, CABINETS, X-OVER, DENOISER functions and edit parameters with arrow keys. Press TUNER to exit EDIT mode.
Saving User Presets
Keep a preset key pressed for approximately two seconds to save edits, overwriting the original. Presets can be saved to different locations by navigating banks with arrow keys.
Overriding Edits/Restoring Single Factory Presets
To revert to the last saved configuration, select a different preset. To restore the original factory preset at a location, press and hold both arrow keys until "Pr" appears, then save it again.
Restoring All Factory Presets
Keep keys D and E pressed while powering up. The display shows "CL". Release D and E, then press both arrow keys simultaneously to overwrite all user presets with factory presets.
Amp/Speaker Simulation
The unit offers 32 amp simulations and 23 cabinet simulations. Amp and speaker simulations can be selected independently, though a default matching simulation is automatically activated. Users can modify these settings.

Speaker Descriptions
The sound of a bass combo is influenced by speaker type and combination. The manual discusses various speaker sizes (8", 10", 12", 15", 18") and HF drivers, noting that a 15" speaker combined with 4 x 10" speakers was a common setup for a balanced bass foundation and perceptible highs.
Denoiser and Compressor
- DENOISER: Removes or minimizes noise using a dynamic low-pass filter and expander. Adjustable frequency range, sensitivity, threshold, and time parameter. Can be used independently.
- COMPRESSOR: Elevates low-level signals and lowers loud parts. Controls dynamic range. Can act as a limiter. The attack parameter is set by holding the TAP key. Can be activated independently.
Effects Processor
The integrated multi-effects processor offers 16 effect groups, including chorus, flanger, stereo delay, rotary cab., synth, and combination effects. A wah wah effect is available via MIDI, controllable with an expression pedal.
Pre-amp Effects
Effects are edited via the EFFECTS control, the EFFECTS control + TAP key, or by tapping the TAP key to the music's rhythm. Parameters include:
- MIDI WAH: Controlled by DRIVE function and EFFECTS control.
- P-FUNK'N: A MuTron III-style effect.
- AUTO WAH: Automatically adjusts filter frequency based on signal level.
- Wah wah is not available when AUTO WAH or P-FUNK'N are active.
(OVER)DRIVE Simulations
Classic stomp box effects with DRIVE, TONE, and BOOST controls. The SPLIT function allows setting a crossover frequency for high frequencies.
Post-amp Effects
These effects are applied after amp and cabinet simulations. An integrated crossover (adjustable via X-OVER) determines the frequency range for effects. Volume balance between high and low pass can be adjusted.
- Reverb and Delay Algorithms: DELAY+CHORUS, ST. DELAY, DELAY/LOOP (with recording function up to 15.36 sec.). REVERB adds ambience. AMBIENCE simulates a room without reflections.
- Modulation Effects: PHASER, FLANGER, CHORUS, STEREO CHORUS. These effects add thickness, movement, and warmth to the sound.
- Special Effects: VCF+FLANGER (filter and flanger combination), VOICE BOX (vocal simulation), ULTRABASS (adds a very low octave bass sound).
- Virtual Analog Bass Synth: SYNTH provides a three-voice synth bass with adjustable envelope, VCO, and overtones. MIDI SYNTH offers advanced virtual analog MIDI synthesis with extensive parameters. ROTARY CAB. simulates a Leslie speaker effect.
Tuner
The integrated chromatic tuner recognizes bass notes and semitones. It indicates tuning accuracy via LEDs. The "a" reference tone can be adjusted (default 440 Hz) for tuning to different orchestral standards.
Tuning Instruments
Strike a string; the tuner recognizes the note and displays its accuracy. LEDs indicate deviation from the ideal tone.
Setting up the "a" Reference Tone
Activate tuner, then enter EDIT mode (arrow keys). Adjust the "a" reference tone (440 Hz default) using arrow keys in 1 Hz increments up to +/- 15 Hz. Changes are stored automatically.
Installation
Rack Mounting (BASS V-AMP PRO)
Requires two rack units. Allow 10 cm depth for cables. Ensure adequate ventilation.
Voltage (BASS V-AMP PRO)
Check voltage selector and fuse rating carefully. Fuse mount allows voltage selection (120V/230V). Replace fuses with correct rating only.
Audio Connections
