ASCO Series 300, 386, and 300SE Power Transfer Switches

Comprehensive overview of ASCO automatic and non-automatic power transfer switches, detailing their features, typical applications, technical specifications, dimensions, and ordering information for reliable emergency and standby power solutions.

ASCO Services: Start-Up, Commissioning, Service & Preventive Maintenance

ASCO Services, Inc. provides a wide range of technical services to users of automatic transfer switches in emergency and standby power systems. These services include comprehensive preventive maintenance programs, modifications, upgrades, and emergency repairs. Systems serviced range in complexity from a single automatic transfer switch to multiple transfer switches and engine generators.

ASCO Services is a wholly owned subsidiary and the exclusive OEM service arm of ASCO Power Technologies, the world's largest manufacturer of power transfer switching and control equipment. Serving the needs of ASCO's customers is a major focus; however, ASCO Services is also routinely called upon to perform regular maintenance and emergency repairs on equipment manufactured by others.

ASCO Services offers comprehensive maintenance agreements that detail the preventive care needed to keep emergency power systems ready to respond. A service agreement is an effective way to budget in advance and avoid unexpected expenditures. A 35-point checklist is utilized to assure critical systems and components are kept in top operating condition. These preventive programs can be customized for national accounts, permitting central corporate control of costs and scheduling. Periodic reports provide detailed information as to activity, maintenance performed, and corrective action.

ASCO Services deploys more than 75 service personnel strategically throughout the nation to provide 24-hour response in emergency situations. Each region is manned by experienced personnel who receive ongoing support and training in the newest equipment concepts, design, and controls. Because equipment can be utilized for a long number of years, field representatives also receive education on older designs. This knowledge can be invaluable in addressing total system concerns, evaluating problems, and providing solutions on site. Service vans are equipped with parts and advanced testing equipment that facilitate these on-the-spot repairs.

Power Outage Protection

Electrical power failures are common and can significantly impact businesses. These failures can occur unexpectedly due to various reasons such as lightning, power surges, blackouts, accidents, or equipment failure. To mitigate these risks, many businesses invest in emergency power backup systems, typically consisting of an engine generator and an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS).

An ATS monitors the normal power supply and senses interruptions. When utility power fails, the ATS automatically starts the engine generator and transfers the load once the generator reaches proper voltage and frequency, typically within seconds. When utility power is restored, the ATS automatically switches the load back and, after a time delay, shuts down the engine. An Automatic Transfer Switch provides 24/7 protection.

ASCO Series 300 Power Transfer Switches: Typical Applications

The ASCO Series 300 Power Transfer Switch is designed for various critical applications where reliable power is essential.

Telecom

In the telecommunications industry, dependable service is crucial. Lost power means service interruptions and lost business. For remote cell sites, Automatic Transfer Switches are valuable resources. The Series 300, combined with ASCO's monitoring and control system, offers a cost-effective solution for remote monitoring and control of numerous sites.

Commercial/Retail, Light Industrial

Electrical power failures can severely impact a retailer's bottom line, especially during peak shopping times. Beyond suspending operations, outages can cause safety issues, data loss, and damage to climate-controlled equipment. Installing a backup generator with an ASCO Series 300 Transfer Switch ensures continuous operation and prevents these losses.

Municipal

For municipal governments, reliable emergency power is vital for public safety services like police, fire, and ambulance. An interruption in power can hinder emergency response. The ASCO Series 300 Transfer Switch ensures that backup generators are activated quickly, safeguarding critical community services.

Agriculture

Maintaining electrical power is essential for agricultural operations. A prolonged power outage can disrupt livestock management and production. The ASCO Series 300 Transfer Switch automatically transfers power to a backup generator, eliminating manual switching. It also automatically switches back to utility power once it's stabilized.

ASCO Series 300 Power Transfer Switches: Maximum Reliability & Excellent Value

The ASCO Series 300 Transfer Switch is backed by ASCO Power Technologies, a leader in transfer switch technology. Designed for automatic transfer of critical loads during power outages, each component is engineered for this specific purpose. Its rugged construction ensures years of reliability and can handle demanding situations like starting stalled motors and switching high inrush loads.

The modular, compact design of the ASCO Series 300 makes installation, inspection, and maintenance easy. All parts are front-accessible for convenient inspection of switch contacts.

ASCO Series 386 Non-Automatic Power Transfer Switches

ASCO 386 non-automatic transfer switches are designed for applications where operating personnel are available and the load is not an emergency type requiring automatic transfer. The power-switching mechanism and controller are the same as those used in the ASCO Series 300. These switches are furnished with a momentary-type selector switch for manual transfer and retransfer, and can be arranged for remote control.

ASCO Series 300SE Service Entrance Power Transfer Switch

The ASCO Service Entrance Power Transfer Switch combines automatic power switching with a utility circuit breaker as a disconnect device, meeting National Electrical Code requirements for service entrance equipment. These switches are typically installed where there is a single utility feed and a single emergency power source, with the circuit breaker serving as the utility disconnect.

The ASCO 300SE uses the same reliable transfer switching mechanism and controller as the Series 300 platform but also includes a utility circuit breaker for disconnect purposes. It connects both neutral and ground conductors.

Consult ASCO for type 3R, 4 and 12 enclosure weights and dimensions. 4. When temperatures below 32° F can be experienced, special precautions should be taken, such as the inclusion of strip heaters, to prevent condensation and freezing of this condensation. This is particularly important when environmental enclosures (Type 3R, 4 & 12) are ordered for installation outdoors. See Optional Accessories page for space heater options (acc. 44G).
