RadioTouch: Simple Wireless Control of Electric and Natural Light

The Lutron RadioTouch system provides a simple and intuitive way to control lighting, window treatments, and projection screens wirelessly from anywhere in a room. It integrates seamlessly with AV equipment and allows for the creation and recall of preset lighting scenes.

Specification Features

System Operation

RadioTouch wallbox transmitters can replace standard wall switches. RadioTouch tabletop transmitters can be placed anywhere in a room and have an optional security mounting bracket. Lutron fluorescent dimming ballasts can be installed in existing fixtures or ordered pre-installed. A single controller is required per lighting zone and can manage lighting, motorized window treatments, and projection screens. Sivoia QED™ controllable window treatments are managed through a Sivoia QED contact closure input. AC motorized window treatments and projection screens are controlled via low-voltage contact closures and a Lutron AC motor group controller. The system works by transmitters sending radio-frequency signals to ceiling-mounted RadioTouch controllers, which are hard-wired to Lutron dimming ballasts, motorized window treatments, and projection screens. Up to 16 transmitters can be used to control lights, controllable window treatments, or projection screens.

RadioTouch Design Example

Step 1: Determine the load on each zone

Example: A classroom with nine 277V, 2'x4', T8, three-lamp fixtures requiring 1% Hi-lume® fluorescent dimming for AV presentations. The appropriate ballast model is FDB-4827-277-3.

Design Note: Consider Sivoia QED™ controllable window treatments and AC motorized projection screens for complete room control.

Step 2: Select the controllers

Example: For presentations, front lights will be controlled separately from general lights. Two RTA-RX-F controllers are needed, one for each zone. Load Interfaces may be used as needed.

Step 3: Determine the number and style of wallbox transmitters and wallplates

Example: Each lighting zone will be controlled by an RTA-WX-2B-WH located at the door. A 2-gang Claro® wallplate (CW-2-WH, sold separately) provides a clean, screwless finish.

Step 4: Select the wireless tabletop transmitter and mounting method

Example: Provide the presenter with control by attaching a tabletop transmitter to the podium using a security mounting bracket (sold separately).

Step 5: Select any optional accessories

Example: Consider an occupant sensor (MOS-CM-15-WH) to automatically turn off lights when the room is unoccupied.
