Installation Requirements

Important Notes

⚠️ IMPORTANT: The UAP-IW-HD requires a UniFi Switch with PoE for power. Passive PoE adapters are not recommended.

ℹ️ IMPORTANT: UniFi Controller v5.7 is recommended for managing the UAP-IW-HD and is available for download at: ui.com/download/unifi

System Requirements

Hardware Overview

Back Panel

The back panel features a single port labeled "PoE In + Data".

1 PoE In + Data: This 10/100/1000 Ethernet port supports data and 802.3af PoE input. The UAP-IW-HD itself requires 11W. 802.3at PoE+ input is required to use PoE passthrough. Connect this port to a UniFi Switch with PoE that is connected to your LAN and DHCP server.

Bottom Panel

The bottom panel features multiple Ethernet ports and a reset button.

2 PoE Out + LAN 1: This 10/100/1000 Ethernet port supports data and PoE passthrough (requires 802.3at PoE+ input). The maximum PoE passthrough output is 12W. Note: To power and connect an 802.3af device to the LAN, you must use 802.3at PoE+ input.

3 LAN 2 - LAN 4: These three 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports support data only. Used to connect client devices to the LAN.

4 Reset: The Reset button serves two functions for the UAP-IW-HD:

Side Panel

5 Security Screw: (Optional) The Security Screw secures the Cover Plate after installation. You have the option to use the included Torx or Phillips Security Screw.

LED: (No specific details provided in text, likely status indicators)

Security Tab: In addition to the optional Security Screw, the Security Tab helps to secure the Cover Plate after installation. If you need to remove it, use a flathead screwdriver to depress the Security Tab while detaching the Cover Plate.

Back Plate

The Back Plate offers a variety of mounting holes for use with different wall boxes. Examples show hole configurations for various mounting scenarios, including specific European standards.

Hardware Installation

An electrical wall box should be pre-installed with an Ethernet cable running from the box to a UniFi Switch with PoE.

  1. Mount the Back Plate to the electrical wall box using appropriate screws. The plate has multiple hole patterns to accommodate different wall box types.
  2. Connect the Ethernet cable from your network to the "PoE In + Data" port on the UAP-IW-HD.
  3. Attach the UAP-IW-HD unit to the mounted Back Plate.
  4. Secure the UAP-IW-HD unit to the Back Plate using the included screws. This can be done with either the Torx Security Screw or the Phillips Security Screw.
  5. (Optional) For added security, use the Security Screw to further secure the Cover Plate.

Software Installation

Download and install the latest version of the UniFi Controller software from ui.com/download/unifi. Launch the software and follow the on-screen instructions. The software and step-by-step instructions are also available in the User Guide.

After installing the software and running the UniFi Installation Wizard, a login screen will appear for the UniFi Controller management interface. Enter the username and password you created and click Sign In.

You can manage your wireless network and view network statistics using the UniFi Controller management interface. For detailed configuration information, refer to the User Guide.

Mobile App Installation

Ubiquiti offers the UniFi app, available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). The app allows basic provisioning of a UniFi AP without a UniFi Controller, seamless provisioning for remote controllers, and easy access to local controllers and those monitored on unifi.ui.com.
