RIDGID FlexShaft Brush Attachments Instructions

RIDGID FlexShaft® Brush Attachments Instructions

Safety Warnings

WARNING: Read and understand these instructions, the FlexShaft machine instructions and warnings, and the instructions and warnings for all equipment and materials being used to reduce the risk of serious personal injury.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

  • Do not allow the attachment/end of cable to stop turning while the cable is turning. This can overstress the cable and may cause twisting, kinking or breaking of the cable and may result in serious personal injury.
  • Use latex or rubber gloves inside the gloves recommended by the manufacturer, goggles, face shields, protective clothing, and respirator when chemicals, bacteria or other toxic or infectious substances are suspected to be in a drain line. Drains may contain chemicals, bacteria and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or infectious or may result in other serious personal injury.
  • Do not operate with cable end outside of drain. Rotating cable end can whip, strike, catch or cut. Insert cable at least 1' (0.3m) into drain before starting machine.
  • Avoid breathing dust created from pipe cleaning. Some dust created may contain chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other serious personal injury. Consider the pipe material and coatings when determining appropriate respiratory protection, including things such as lead based paint. Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work and the concentration of dust. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area, and use respiratory protection selected based on appropriate regulations and standards, such as ANSI Z88.2 and OSHA.

Product Description

The RIDGID® FlexShaft® Brush Attachments are available for various uses, such as cleaning the inside of the pipe, centering the chain knocker in the pipe, and spreading lining compound.

The Nylon brushes are used for lightly cleaning, and the Nylon/Steel brushes are used for thoroughly cleaning the inside diameter of pipe.

The brush attachments can also be used as centering devices with other FlexShaft attachments and to reduce the likelihood of cable kinking.

Brush Securing Rings are available to reduce the risk of brushes falling during use.

For a complete listing of Attachments, see the Ridge Tool Catalog online at RIDGID.com or see Contact Information.

Inspection and Maintenance

  • Clean any debris from the attachment.
  • Inspect the attachment before each use for proper assembly, wear, damage, or other issues that could affect safe use.
  • Inspect the bristles for wear and damage. Replace the attachment if required.
  • If any problems are found, do not use until corrected.

Setup and Operation

  • Ensure all equipment is inspected and set up per its instructions.
  • Confirm that the brush is correct for the application. The center diameter of the brush should be close fitting to the cable. Do not use a brush for a larger cable on a smaller cable. A loose fit can allow cable damage and brush loss. Generally, a nominal size brush is used for a nominal size pipe. Slight interference between the brush and pipe ID can be useful for cable centering in some cases. Significant interference may damage the brush.
  • Loosen the set screw on the Brush Attachment.
  • Mount the attachment on the cable and securely tighten the set screws. If the set screws are not secure, the attachment could slip and damage the cable or be lost down the drain.
  • As with chain knockers and other FlexShaft attachments, minimize the amount of exposed cable (cable not covered by sheath). The more exposed cable there is, the more likely the cable will flip over in use and be damaged. Limit exposed cable to no more than 1/4" (6 mm), set with a bushing made from sheath (“Knocker Bushing”). See FlexShaft Drain Cleaning Machine Instructions.
  • Follow the instructions for the FlexShaft Drain Cleaning Machine to set up and operate the machine to clean the pipe.
  • Only rotate the cable when the attachment is at least 1' (0.3m) in the drain.
