STEP 1: PREPARING YOUR MOTHERBOARD

REMOVING STOCK COOLER

Remove all encircled screws. There are 2 screws on the back of the motherboard that need to be removed in order to remove the factory-installed MOSFET heat pipe cooling solution. Please store away the factory backplate as it will be reused.

STEP 2: PREPARING YOUR MOTHERBOARD

  1. APPLYING THERMAL COMPOUND

Apply thermal compound on the CPU heat spreader (IHS) - see sample photo on right with enclosed EK-TIM Ectotherm thermal grease. The quantity of about two rice grains is just about right. There is no need to cover the whole IHS. Applying too much thermal grease will have a negative impact on the cooling performance!

A diagram illustrates the application of thermal compound on a CPU heat spreader (IHS). A small, central application of thermal paste is shown, advised as approximately two rice grains.

  2. CUTTING THERMAL PADS

Your block comes with thermal pads which need to be trimmed in order to fit the voltage regulation area (MOSFET) on the motherboard's circuit board. WARNING: DIMENSIONS ON PICTURES BELOW ARE SCALED.

Replacement thermal pads @ EKWB web shop: Thermal PAD G 1mm - (120x24mm) [EAN: 3830046996770]

A diagram shows a thermal pad labeled "Thermal pad G - 1.0mm (for mosfets and inductor coils)" with dimensions indicating a length of 120mm and a width of 24mm.

STEP 3: PLACING THERMAL PADS ON MOTHERBOARD

Place thermal pads on the PCB as shown in the picture.

PLEASE REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FOIL FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE THERMAL PADS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION!

Place 1mm thermal pads in larger strips over both marked areas and make sure all MOSFET chips and inductor coils are covered.

Diagrams show the placement of 1mm thermal pads in strips over specific areas on the motherboard's PCB, ensuring coverage of MOSFET chips and inductor coils. A warning states that dimensions in pictures are not to scale.

STEP 3: PLACING THE BLOCK ON TO MOTHERBOARD

Install two (2) M2.5 self-adhesive PVC washers under marked standoffs as shown in the picture below.

A diagram shows two M2.5 self-adhesive PVC washers being installed under specific standoffs on the motherboard.

Place the EK-FB MSI X299M GAMING PRO CARBON RGB Monoblock series water block gently onto the motherboard or vice versa (as shown on photo below). Make sure that mounting holes are aligned.

A diagram illustrates the EK-FB MSI X299M GAMING PRO CARBON RGB Monoblock water block being gently placed onto the motherboard, with an emphasis on aligning the mounting holes.

STEP 4: ATTACHING BLOCK ON TO THE MOTHERBOARD

Prior to fastening the screws, please make sure the mounting holes on the motherboard's circuit board are aligned with the water block.

  1. Mosfet part:

Use two M2.5x8 AX1 screws and the original backplate with thermal pad. Tighten the screws evenly. Do not use excessive force when tightening the screws!

  2. CPU part:

Use four thumb nuts with screws and washers. Tighten the thumb nuts.

Use the enclosed screws and washers as shown in the picture below:

Diagrams display the components for attaching the monoblock: M3 thumb nuts, M2.5x8 screws, and M3 PVC washers for CPU mounting. The original motherboard backplate with its thermal pad is also shown.

STEP 5: CONNECTING THE RGB LED STRIP (optional)

Plug the 4-pin connector from the Monoblock RGB LED strip to the motherboard. Please ensure that the arrow indicated on the connector is plugged into the 12v line as indicated on your motherboard. Failure to do so will damage your motherboard or LED strip.

A diagram shows a 4-pin RGB LED strip connector being plugged into a motherboard header. An arrow on the connector indicates the correct orientation for the 12V line.

For the EK-FB MSI X299M GAMING PRO CARBON RGB Monoblock series water block to operate properly, the G1/4 port nearest to the right edge of the water block MUST BE USED AS THE INLET PORT. EK recommends the use of EK-ACF fittings. When using fittings other than EK-ACF series, please use hose clamps or an appropriate substitute to secure the tubing to the barb. The use of biocide containing and corrosion inhibiting coolant is always recommended for any liquid cooling system.

A diagram shows tubing connected to a G1/4 port on the monoblock. A prominent text box states: 'IMPORTANT: USE THIS OPENING AS AN INLET PORT!'
