Durablow Installation & Operating Instructions

Model: TR1003, TR1004; Transmitter: T1003 or T1004 + Receiver: RR01

Important: If you cannot read or understand these instructions, do not attempt to install or operate.

Introduction

This Durablow remote control system provides safe and reliable control for gas heating appliances, such as fireplaces. It can be operated thermostatically or manually via the transmitter (remote handset). The system uses radio frequencies (RF) within a 20-foot range with non-directional signals. The remote receiver box code must be matched to the transmitter before initial use (refer to 'LEARNING TRANSMITTER TO RECEIVER'). Always read all sections and the original manufacturer's manual for safety installation. Safety features shut down the system and appliance, like a fireplace, in potentially unsafe conditions such as high heat.

Slide Switch Positions:

Warning & Reminder

This system MUST be installed exactly according to these instructions. Read and follow all installation instructions carefully.

Pre-Installation

Decide the receiver box location before proceeding. Wall mounting into a standard wall switch box is STRONGLY SUGGESTED. Alternatively, it can be placed under or near the fireplace hearth, ensuring it is kept away from high heat (exceeding 130°F / 54°C), with additional protection if exposed to heat.

Fig. 10 shows wire connection points. Ensure the receiver box's slide switch is in the OFF position before installation.

The receiver is connected with an 18-inch wire. For longer runs, use 18-gauge stranded or solid wire, splicing it with the original wires or inserting new wires into the back slots (Fig. 10). Wires should not exceed 20 feet. Allow slack for battery replacement or checks.

Mounting Options

Wall Mounting

  1. Install four AA-size 1.5V batteries into the receiver box (Fig. 8). The system requires a total voltage greater than 5.2V (typically 6.0-6.2V from four new batteries).
  2. Attach the wall mount cover plate to the receiver box (Fig. 11), snapping it into the tabs.
  3. Position the cover plate with words facing up (Fig. 12) and install the receiver box into the wall switch box using the provided screws.

Note: The receiver box operates with the slide switch in the REMOTE position. The receiver box code must match the transmitter code.

Hearth Mount

The receiver box can be placed on, under, or behind the fireplace control panel or louvers. Keep it away from high heat (exceeding 130°F / 54°C), with additional protection if needed. The slide switch should be accessible for hearth mounting (Fig. 13).

Wiring Instructions

ONLY qualified electricians or gas technicians knowledgeable in gas appliances and valves should install this system. Incorrect wiring can damage the gas valve, electronic module, and receiver.

a. Wiring Millivolt Valve (Fig. 14)

Connect the two 18-gauge wires from the receiver box to the Millivolt gas valve's TH & TH/TP terminals. The receiver box acts like a thermostat, turning the gas valve ON/OFF based on signals. The transmitter sends signals to the receiver, which then signals the valve.

Fig. 14 illustrates the connection between the Remote Receiver Box and the Terminals on Millivolt gas valves (TH, TH/TP, TP).

b. Wiring Electronic Spark Ignition Module (Fig. 15)

Connect a 24VAC transformer in series to the TR terminal on the ELECTRONIC MODULE. Connect the hot wire from the transformer to a wire terminal on the receiver box. Connect another wire between the receiver wire terminal and the TH (thermostat) terminal on the ELECTRONIC MODULE.

Fig. 15 shows the wiring for an Electronic Module, including connections for the 24VAC transformer and the remote receiver box.

c. Wiring DEXEN or S.I.T Electronic IPI Pilot Ignition Control Module

Locate the "OPTIONAL REMOTE CONTROL" wires to connect the Durablow remote controls.

Learning Transmitter to Receiver

Each transmitter has a unique RF code. To pair the receiver box with the transmitter:

  1. Ensure the receiver box slide switch is in the REMOTE mode.
  2. Gently press the black LEARN button on the receiver's front panel with a small screwdriver (Fig. 16). The receiver will emit two quick beeps (♫ ♫).
  3. Press the MODE button on the transmitter. The receiver will emit three quick beeps (♫ ♫ ♫), indicating the code has been captured.

If pairing fails, wait 2 minutes for the microprocessor to reset before trying again. Multiple attempts may be necessary. For questions, email info@payandpack.com.

Fig. 16 shows the receiver box with the slide switch and the LEARN button, illustrating the pairing process.

Additional Information

Thermo Safety Protection at Receiver

The receiver box includes a THERMISTOR for safety. If the internal temperature exceeds 130°F (54°C), the system will shut down and beep every 4 seconds (♫ ♫ ♫). The system can be reactivated by pressing the MODE button when the temperature drops between 120°F (48°C) and 130°F (54°C). Beeping continues until the temperature is below 120°F. To reset completely, cycle the mode (OFF-ON-OFF) and allow the box to cool below 120°F.

Transmitter

  1. Operating Distance: Recommended use within 20 feet in the same room, without wall partitions.
  2. Thermo Detecting Interval: The transmitter detects ROOM temperature every 2 minutes.
  3. Out-of-Range Safety Alert: If the receiver does not receive a signal every 15 minutes, it starts a 120-minute countdown. If no signal is received, the system shuts down and beeps. Pressing the MODE button on the transmitter resets the receiver. This alert is also triggered by low battery or transmitter failure.

Setting the Desired Room Temperature

In THERMO mode (Fig. 6), use the [+] and [-] buttons to set the desired room temperature (MAX 99°F / 32°C, MIN 45°F / 6°C). Temperature changes are detected and sent every two minutes to conserve battery.

Temperature Differential (variation "SWING")

The THERMO mode uses a SWING setting, which is the temperature variation allowed before the system cycles. A smaller SWING means more frequent cycles and higher battery consumption. A larger SWING allows greater temperature tolerance and saves battery. The factory default is +/- 2°F (1°C).

Fig. 17 shows the SWING settings: +/- 1°F (0.5°C), +/- 2°F (1°C), and +/- 3°F (1.5°C).

Setting the SWING

  1. To change SWING, press TIMER and [-] buttons simultaneously (Fig. 18) to display the current setting (indicated by 'S').
  2. Use [+] and [-] buttons to select SWING 1, 2, or 3.
  3. Press OK or wait 15 seconds to save the setting.

Setting the Countdown Timer

The TIMER is available in ON or THERMO modes. Press the TIMER button (Fig. 18) to display 'TIMER' and the blinking countdown time (default '0:15'). Use [+] and [-] buttons to set the desired time (options include 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, 3:30, 8:30, 9:00). Press OK or wait 15 seconds to confirm.

Fig. 18 shows the transmitter buttons used for setting SWING and TIMER.

Fig. 19 shows the transmitter's LCD displaying the TIMER function with a countdown time.

Childproof Feature & Setting

A safety LOCK feature is available on the transmitter.

  1. To activate LOCK, press and hold the [+] and TIMER buttons together for 5-7 seconds. The 'CP' indicator will appear briefly on the screen (Fig. 20).
  2. To deactivate LOCK, press and hold the [+] and TIMER buttons together for at least 7 seconds. The 'CP' indicator will disappear, and the transmitter will be unlocked.

Note: The CHILDPROOF FEATURE (CP-LOCK) does not cancel operating modes (ON, TIMER, THERMO). For a total lock-out, activate CP-LOCK in OFF mode.
