Additional Grease Fire Prevention
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF A RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE:
- Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spills that may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.
- Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambéing food (e.g., Crêpes Suzette, Cherries Jubilee, Peppercorn Beef Flambé).
- Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not accumulate on the fan or filter.
- Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
Installation and Electrical Safety
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY TO PERSONS, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-related construction.
Makeup Air and Ductwork
Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent back drafting. Follow heating equipment manufacturer's guidelines and safety standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, local codes). Install any makeup (replacement) air system according to local building code requirements. Visit Monogram.com for makeup air solutions.
When cutting or drilling into walls or ceilings, do not damage electrical wiring or other hidden utilities.
Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, USE ONLY METAL DUCTWORK.
Servicing and Repair
Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of your hood unless specifically recommended in this manual. All other servicing should be referred to a qualified technician.
Automatic Operation Safety
CAUTION: AUTOMATICALLY OPERATED DEVICE. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY, DISCONNECT FROM POWER SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING. THE UNIT IS EQUIPPED WITH AN INTEGRAL DISCONNECTING SWITCH LOCATED INSIDE THE BLOWER HOUSING.

Care and Cleaning
For Your Safety
Before servicing or cleaning, switch power off at the service panel and lock it to prevent accidental activation. If the panel cannot be locked, fasten a tag or prominent warning label to it.
Filter Panel
Grease accumulates on the filter panel. The panel is dishwasher-safe and should be cleaned every 6 months or as needed.
- Press in to release and lower the filter cover panel.
- Remove hinge barrel nuts and screws on both sides. Shift filter panel to the left and remove.
- Place the filter cover panel in the dishwasher with drain holes facing down.
Note: The filter must ALWAYS be in place and the filter panel must ALWAYS be closed when the hood is in use.
[Diagram: Shows how to press the corners of the filter panel to unlock it.]
Metal Grease Filter
The metal filter traps grease from cooking and helps prevent flames from damaging the hood interior. It must ALWAYS be in place and the filter panel must ALWAYS be closed during use. The grease filter is dishwasher-safe and should be cleaned every 6 months or as needed.
To Remove:
- Press up on the front two corners of the filter cover panel to unlock. Lower the panel to access the filter.
- Press the filter latch in to release it. Pull the filter down and out.
To Replace:
- Place the two tabs on the filter edge into the lower locating slots in the hood opening.
- Push the filter up and snap it into place.
- Rotate the filter cover panel up and press its front two corners to lock it.
To clean, swish the filter in hot soapy water and rinse in clean water, or wash it in the dishwasher. Do not use abrasive cleansers. Note: Some discoloration may occur in the dishwasher.

Charcoal Filter (On Some Models)
If the model is not vented to the outside, air is recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter. Replace the filter when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (typically every 6-12 months). DO NOT rinse or put the charcoal filter in an automatic dishwasher. It cannot be cleaned and must be replaced. Order Charcoal Filter WB02X11348.
To Remove:
- Remove the metal filter (see Metal Grease Filter section).
- Remove the charcoal filter similarly to the metal filter by pressing the filter latch, then pulling it down and out.
To Replace:
- Insert the black charcoal filter into the opening. Push the latch on both sides toward the center to engage the flange.
- Replace the metal filter (see Metal Grease Filter section).

Stainless Steel Hood Surfaces
Regularly polish the stainless steel exterior with Stainless Steel Magic™ and the Monogram polishing cloth to preserve the finish. Wipe in the direction of the grain to avoid scratching.
For regular cleaning, use clean water and a soft cloth. For persistent stains, use mild dish soap with a soft cloth or non-abrasive pad. For tougher stains, use a solution of 25% vinegar and 75% water. If stains persist, visit monogram.com.
Note: Reapply Stainless Steel Magic™ after cleaning or if the unit contacts water. Stainless Steel Magic™ and the polishing cloth are available at monogram.com/use-and-care/parts. Order part number WX10X15.
Do not use appliance wax or polish. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or bleach, as they can scratch or damage the finish. Warranty does not cover damage from improper cleaning methods.
Light Bulbs
CAUTION: Allow bulbs to cool before touching.
To Change Light Bulbs:
- Press and turn the light bulb face 1/4 turn.
- The bulb will drop out.
- Replace with the same size bulb (120 volt, 50 watt, MR16 halogen with GU10 base) by placing bulb prongs into keyhole slots and turning 1/4 turn to lock.
Note: Do not use bulbs exceeding 120 volts or 50 watts. Doing so will cause lights to shut off automatically and indicator rings to flash.

Troubleshooting
Save time and money! Review this chart before calling for service.
Problem | Possible Cause | What To Do |
---|---|---|
Fan automatically turns on or increases speed, and cannot be turned off or lowered. | The hood fan has an automatic feature that adjusts speed based on cooking temperatures or electronics overheating. | This is normal operation for the automatic feature. You can set the fan to a higher setting but not lower or off when the automatic feature is active. |
Fan does not operate when turned on. | Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Power disconnect switch inside the hood may be off. | Check fuse/breaker. Locate the ON/OFF switch inside the blower housing (requires lowering the filter panel and removing filters). Press the switch to the ON position. Note: Use the disconnect switch to turn OFF the blower for safety if removing the hood for service. |
Fan fails to circulate air or moves air slower than normal. | Dirty filters. Insufficient makeup (replacement) air. | Clean metal grease filter and replace charcoal filter if applicable. Check ductwork for blockages. Consult local codes for makeup air requirements. Visit Monogram.com for makeup air solutions. If the problem persists, call for service. |
Fan keeps going off and on. | Motor may be overheating and shutting itself off. | Ensure filters are clean and check ductwork for blockages. If cycling continues, call for service. |
Lights do not work and rings around buttons flash. | Bulbs replaced with ones exceeding 120 volts, 50 watts limit. | Replace with correct type and size bulbs (120V, 50W, MR16 GU10 base). Ensure they are securely inserted. |
Light will not stay on high setting. | Bulbs exceed recommended wattage. | Use bulbs that do not exceed the recommended wattage (120V, 50W). Higher wattage bulbs cause rings to blink and lights to not function at highest levels. |
Hood controls are not operating correctly. | Control system may need resetting. | Disconnect power at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Wait 30 seconds, then restore power. |
Sequential presses of light/fan buttons change settings cyclically. | Normal operation for setting selection. | This is normal. |
Pressing Memory/Off button to turn on light also turns on fan. | Normal operation for convenience. | If you want only lights on, press the "FAN +" or "FAN –" button to turn the fan off. The hood will remember the last setting for lights and fan. You can turn lights and fan on/off separately using the "+" or "–" buttons. |
