Brand: Martec
Product: 3-in-1 Heat, Fan, Light Bathroom Heater
Model Numbers: MBHC4LW, MBHC4LS
Introduction
Thank you for selecting the Martec Bathroom Heater 3-in-1. Please read all instructions carefully before commencing installation.
Important: This unit must be installed in compliance with appropriate council regulations and the Australia and New Zealand wiring rules (e.g., AS/NZS3000:2000 or latest edition). Main supply and interconnecting cables required for installation are not included.
Safety Warnings and Precautions
- Installation must be performed by qualified persons only.
- Always turn off the power supply before commencing installation.
- Ensure the heater is properly grounded.
- Infrared lamps become hot during use; avoid touching them with any part of your body.
- For safety, the ventiduct of the heater must not be laid together with the ventiduct of an air-fueled water heater or other open-fire appliances into the same flue.
- The appliance must be isolated from the power supply by means of an accessible plug or an all-pole disconnection switch with a contact separation of at least 3mm in each pole.
- The power cable must be rated for a minimum 10A load.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- Switches and other controls must not be accessible to a person in the bath or shower.
- The appliance shall, under no circumstances, be covered with insulating material or similar material.
- Regulations concerning the discharge of air must be fulfilled.
- Joists, beams, and rafters shall not be cut or notched to install the appliance.
- Switch Wiring: The switch wiring should be mounted inside the wall to provide an integrated appearance. If wiring must run on the outside, use suitable conduit and fixings.
Important Considerations Before Installing
- Placement: Do not install the unit directly above a shower or bathtub, or in a position where water may splash onto the lamps. Do not install directly beneath a fixed socket.
- Ceiling Type: The unit is designed for installation in flat ceilings only. Do not mount it on a sloping ceiling or a vertical wall.
- Optimal Positioning: Mount the unit where users typically stand to dry themselves for maximum heating effectiveness.
- Airflow for Fan: For the exhaust fan to work efficiently, replacement air equivalent to the extracted volume must be able to enter the room. This is typically drawn from under the door or through a slightly open window. If the room is airtight, the fan will function poorly.
- Ceiling Space Check: Before commencing any cutting, check the ceiling space for obstructions such as ceiling joists and ensure sufficient height clearance for the housing. Verify that electrical wiring can be routed from the wall switches to the mounting location.
Installation Procedure
- Cutting a Vent: Locate a vent position on the wall above the ceiling and cut a 105mm diameter hole at this position.
- Ducting: Insert one end of the 100mm diameter ventiduct into the wall vent hole. Seal any space around the hole using suitable sealant and cowling where necessary.
- Locating the Heater: Ensure the distance from the installation centre to the outside vent is within 1.5m, as each duct section is 1.5m.
- Preparing the Ceiling: Use the attached hole-cutting template (300mm x 300mm) to mark the hole outline on the ceiling. Ensure a distance between the edges and the wall is no less than 250mm, and from the ceiling joist, there should be a minimum 200mm height clearance for the housing.
- Removing Fascia: Remove all lamps from the heater. Unclip the internal fascia-retaining springs inside the housing and remove the fascia. Note: Do not force when removing the heating lamps.
- Wiring: Connect one end of the interconnecting wire with the switch panel. Drag the other end of the power cable out of the hole on the ceiling. Open the terminal block cover on the housing and make connections as per the wiring diagram. Reposition the terminal block cover. Tuck redundant wire into the ceiling to leave enough room for the housing.
- Duct Connection: Fit the in-house end of the duct to the fan outlet and fix the end with a duct clip. Keep the route as straight as possible.
- Positioning Housing: Choose an optimal direction to put the housing into the hole in accordance with the position of the fan outlet. Use the two spring clips to fix the housing. Ensure the unit is held securely by the clips. Note: Try to keep redundant wire away from the housing.
- Final Installation:
- Replace Fascia: Replace the fascia and retaining springs.
- Replace Lamps: Ensure the lamps are tightened sufficiently to make good electrical contact. Clean the lamps and fascia.
- Fix Switch Panel: Fit the switch panel onto the wall to prevent power cable from standing traction. Make sure the fixing position is good enough to avoid water splash.
Using the Heater
The Martec bathroom heater combines the functions of exhaust and light, using infrared heating lamps as a heat source.
- Heat: Turn on the 'HEAT' button. This model is supplied with two groups of infrared lamps; you can turn on one or both for best heating effect. Each lamp has been sprayed 4 times with cold water to ensure no flaws. Note: Do not touch the infrared lamps with any part of your body when in use.
- Exhaust: Turn on the 'FAN' button to exhaust odour and steam quickly and efficiently. No additional exhaust fan is necessary as the heater itself can exhaust all odour and steam as needed.
- Lighting: Turn on the 'Light' button. Note: Do not turn the buttons on/off frequently when in use. Shut off power if in long vacancy.
Maintenance
- Cleaning:
- Shut off power before cleaning.
- Wipe lamps and fascia with a soft cloth soaked with neutral detergent. Ensure the lamps are cool to touch before handling.
- Lamp Replacement:
- Check and tighten lamps regularly.
- Shut off power before replacement.
- Use E27 8W LED for lighting (MARTEC Code: MRL 8W).
- Use E27 275W infrared lamps for heating (MARTEC Code: MRL275W).
- Note: It may affect operation (even cause danger) when lamps, other than the designated ones, are used.
