Chapter 1: Operating Instructions

The device features several LED indicators to show its status:

Chapter 2: Quick Start Guide

Note: For your own security, we strongly recommend changing the default password. The password must be between 5 and 12 digits.

Warning: After 20 unsuccessful password attempts, the device will lock, and the drive will be initialized, requiring reformatting. Refer to the "Initializing and Formatting the Verbatim HDD/SSD" section and follow the instructions.

To unlock the drive:

  1. Connect the encrypted HDD/SSD to your computer.
  2. Enter the default password and confirm by pressing the "Unlock" button. (Default password: "00000")
  3. The red LED indicator should not be lit, and the green LED indicator should be solid. The HDD/SSD is now unlocked.
  4. Open the "My Computer" folder and check if the HDD/SSD is ready for use.

Chapter 3: Changing the Password

Follow these steps to change your password:

  1. Hold down the [lock symbol] button. Connect the drive to the computer via USB cable so that the red LED indicator and the orange LED indicator light up. You can now release the [lock symbol] button.
  2. Enter the current password (default password: "00000") and confirm by pressing the [lock symbol] button. The orange LED indicator will turn off.
  3. Enter the new password and confirm by pressing the [lock symbol] button.
  4. Re-enter the new password from step 3 and press the [lock symbol] button again. The red LED indicator will turn off.
  5. The device is now unlocked again.

Chapter 4: Erasing the Drive and Setting a New Password

Note: Back up your data before setting a new password. For your security, the drive will be initialized when setting a new password. Follow the steps in the "Ready to Use" section for formatting.

  1. Simultaneously press and hold buttons 1 and 2, then connect the drive to the computer via USB cable. Release both buttons when the red LED indicator next to the button lights up.
  2. Now, press and hold the [lock symbol] button for 5 seconds until the orange LED indicator lights up.
  3. Enter the new password and confirm by pressing the [lock symbol] button. The orange LED indicator will turn off.
  4. The password has been set.
  5. Re-enter the new password from step 3. Press the [lock symbol] button. The red LED indicator will turn off.
  6. The device is now unlocked.
  7. With the new password set, the unit is initialized. Perform formatting according to the instructions on the following pages.

Chapter 5: Initializing and Formatting the Verbatim HDD/SSD

Note: These procedures apply only if a new password has been created as described in Chapter 4!

For Windows 7 / 8 / 10:

  1. Right-click the "This PC" icon on your desktop.
  2. Select "Manage".
  3. Choose "Storage" -> "Disk Management".
  4. Disk Management will automatically recognize that the disk has not been initialized.
  5. Select GPT (GUID PARTITION TABLE) as the partition style and confirm by clicking "OK".

    Recommendation: MBR is not recommended because the disk needs to be unlocked every time the system starts!

  6. Select the hard drive that is currently unallocated.
  7. Right-click on the unallocated area and select "New Partition". The "New Partition Wizard" will open.
  8. The wizard will guide you through the formatting process.
  9. Tip: You do not need to change the default values of the installation wizard. You may only want to change the disk description and select the file system.
  10. After the installation process is complete, the disk will automatically appear with an assigned drive letter and name.

For Mac OSx:

  1. After connecting the drive to your Mac and unlocking it, the OSx system will recognize the unreadable disk.

  2. Launch Disk Utility using the "Initialize..." button.
  3. In Disk Utility, you must select the specific external drive.
    Important: The Disk Store 'n' Go Secure Portable HDD/SSD with Keypad Access will lose its original description, type, and brand. To prevent incorrect selection, it is strongly recommended to disconnect other external drives before proceeding. Do not select any internal drives.
  4. Select the only available external drive.

  5. From the Disk Utility toolbar, select the "Erase" option. The formatting dialog box will open.

  6. In the next dialog box, you can assign a name and file format to the disk.
  7. Clicking the "erase" option will start the formatting.

Limited Warranty Conditions

Verbatim GmbH warrants that this product will be free from material and manufacturing defects for a period of two years from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover batteries. If the product fails during the warranty period, it will be replaced free of charge with another unit. You can return it along with the original receipt to the place of purchase or contact Verbatim.

Your sole remedy under this warranty is the replacement of the product. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by non-standard use, misuse, rough handling, negligence, or accident, nor incompatibility or unsatisfactory performance due to specific computer software or hardware used.

VERBATIM IS NOT LIABLE FOR DATA LOSS OR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR SPECIAL DAMAGES, REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE, BREACH OF WARRANTY, OR OTHERWISE.

In addition to the specific legal rights granted by this warranty, you may have other rights that vary from state to state and country to country.
