G-SHOCK GM-B2100: Tough. Brilliant.

Ushering in a visionary new phase of iconic watch design.

The Story: Birth of the GM-B2100

In 1983, Casio introduced the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, with an original shock-resistant construction and iconic shape. The GA-2100, launched in 2019, brought this concept to an analog format. The new GM-B2100 is a high-performance chronograph with a full-metal exterior, representing a new phase for the 2100 line.

The development concept focused on maintaining the iconic design while incorporating a metal watch with luxurious textural appeal and superior practical utility. This involved a complete re-evaluation of the design process, from module mounting to component finishing and dial design, all in pursuit of strength, beauty, and ease of use. The GM-B2100 is a full-metal watch packed with features like Smartphone Link and Tough Solar, embodying a timeless passion for design and a spirit of challenge.

Timeline of G-Shock Evolution: DW-5000C (1983), GA-2100 (2019), GM-B2100 (2022)

Revolutionizing Conventional Notions

The G-SHOCK has always been a norm-shattering presence, born from a passion for ultimate toughness that defied conventional assumptions about watch breakability. The GA-2100, with its refined octagonal form, projected the essence of the original G-SHOCK vision. Despite initial questions about its minimalist look fitting the G-SHOCK brand, it gained global popularity, especially among younger audiences. The GM-B2100 inherits this spirit of challenge, pushing boundaries further.

The Challenge of Full-Metal Construction

Developing the GM-B2100 involved meeting G-SHOCK's shock resistance criteria while managing the weight of the stainless-steel exterior and the analog hands' susceptibility to shock. This necessitated a new shock-resistant structure specifically for full-metal watches. Sophisticated forging and cutting processes ensure a precise fit between the bezel and case. High-density mounting technology allows for a slimmer module with enhanced functions like Smartphone Link and Tough Solar, maintaining a size similar to the original GA-2100.

Genuine Evolution in the Smallest Details

The full-metal construction required new molding and finishing techniques. The distinctive resin form was reconstructed in metal, necessitating updates to component design and production. A circular hairline finish on the bezel's top surface and mirror finish on its sides provide a sharper, harder look. New lug designs enhance the metal's gleam. The iconic dimple design of the band, maintained since the first G-SHOCK, is reproduced in metal, with a beautiful finish even at the bottom of the impressed holes. The screw-lock case back features a forged form that exudes solidity.

A Fresh, New Look with Intense Focus on Dial Design

To complement the metal exterior, a new dial design with sophisticated texture was developed. The dual-layer dial surface, composed of multiple separate components, allows for intricate face design. Yamagata Casio's nano-processing technology and Japan's precision die molding were used to achieve intricate forms with fine surface grind marks and vapor deposition for an emphasized metal look. Advanced technologies like laser welding secure the inset dial ring, achieving toughness without visible securement components.

GM-B2100 Features

Full-metal shock-resistant structure: Buffering components made of fine resin are installed between the stainless-steel bezel and case to absorb shock. The screw-lock case back ensures a tight seal, meeting stringent G-SHOCK criteria for shock resistance and 20-bar water resistance.

Textural appeal highlighted with individual finishes: Hairline and mirror polishes are applied separately to different components, accentuating the sophisticated metallic texture and strong form of the bezel. Circular hairline finishes on the top surface and lengthwise hairline finishes on the sides add variation.

High-precision forging and cutting processes: The stainless-steel bezel is formed through painstaking forging and cutting, ensuring a precise fit with the case and detailed finishing.

Further strengthened band connection: A three-pronged structure is employed for the lugs to disperse shock, providing greater connection strength with the metal band.

The challenge of achieving a slim profile: Reduced thickness of external components and a slim module maintain the 2100 line's familiar slim profile, offering high utility, enhanced functionality, and a comfortable fit.

Delivering beauty with a layered dial: A new dial design with a luxurious, sophisticated look complements the metal exterior. The dual-layer dial surface with multiple components allows for intricate face design, even with the challenge of adding decorative touches to a solar dial.

Passion for design revealed in the minor details: An indicator hand and inset dial ring with dimensional forms accent the inset dial, decorated with circular grind marks. Finely detailed grind marks and vapor deposition enhance the sophisticated metallic texture. The inset dial ring is secured with advanced laser welding technology.

Yamagata Casio, delivering Japan's famous quality: Special precision die molds produced at Yamagata Casio utilize advanced technologies for sharp molding, detailed surface processing, and metallic thin-film vapor deposition, representing premium-quality crafting.

Tight seal achieved with screw-lock construction: The robust screw-lock case back ensures a tight seal. A diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating offers enhanced abrasion resistance, while a mirror finish on beveled surfaces delivers sophisticated textural appeal.

Index marks with sharply molded forms: Lightweight resin is used for shock resistance. Ring-shaped integrated molding increases strength, allowing for larger, dimensional forms. The simple surface structure is finished with lengthwise grind marks for a refined appearance.

LCD periphery featuring microfabrication: Dual-layer dial design enhances the sense of depth around the LCD. Straight-line grind marks are applied to beveled surfaces at the LCD periphery, highlighting the minimalist approach to face design.

Metal band exuding solidity: Individual stainless steel band pieces have separate hairline and mirror finishes. The iconic dimple design is reproduced in metal, with a repetitive pressing and polishing process achieving a beautiful finish.

GM-B2100 Functions

CASIO CONNECT | Bluetooth®

Use Bluetooth® to pair with the smartphone app for more convenient and easy-to-use watch functions.

Tough Solar (solar charging system): Casio's original solar-charging system generates power from sunlight or fluorescent lamps, providing ample power to the built-in rechargeable battery for smooth operation of watch functions.

Super Illuminator: Double high-brightness LED light illuminates the dial and LCD for outstanding viewability in the dark. The afterglow feature gradually fades the lights out.

Shock-resistant structure and 20-bar water resistance: The iconic G-SHOCK shock-resistant structure is achieved in a full-metal exterior, offering effective impact and vibration resistance for intensive use in all conditions. Each watch is inspected for water resistance prior to shipment.

Hand shift feature: Temporarily moves the hour and minute hands out of the way with a button press when they overlap with the LCD or inset dial, enhancing utility for the digital-analog combination dial.
