How to Clean Your Water Dispenser
A comprehensive guide for cleaning and maintaining your Primo Water dispenser, including filter replacement and essential tips for optimal performance.
Introduction
The exterior of your water dispenser should be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a year. The CrystalFlo water filter requires replacement every 12 months. If you do not have a replacement filter readily available, you can order one directly.
Before beginning the cleaning process, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Tip: The optimal time to replace the water filter and clean the dispenser is when the current water bottle is finished.
What You'll Need
- CrystalFlo replacement filter (if replacing)
- 70% isopropyl alcohol or disinfectant wipes
- Clean cloth or soft brush
- Latex-free disposable gloves
- Bucket
- Heat-resistant container to place under the faucets
- Towels to absorb any water spills
If you are not replacing the CrystalFlo filter, please skip steps 8 through 12.
WARNING: Always exercise caution when handling hot water.
Cleaning and Filter Replacement Procedures
- Turn off the hot water tank heater switch located on the rear of the dispenser and unplug the unit. Allow the unit to rest for one hour before cleaning to ensure the hot water tank has cooled sufficiently. [Illustration: Rear view of the dispenser showing a power switch and power cord.]
- Place a glass or another suitable container beneath the water faucets to catch any potential drips. [Illustration: A glass positioned under a water dispenser faucet to collect drips.]
- While wearing gloves, press the dispenser lid latch, which is situated on the top edge of the unit, and pull upwards to open the lid. [Illustration: A hand wearing a glove pressing a latch on the dispenser's top lid and lifting it open.]
-
Pull the CrystalFlo water filter upwards to remove it. Avoid squeezing the water reservoir, as this could cause spillage.

Tip: Keep a bucket nearby for discarding the used CrystalFlo filter, as it will contain residual water.
- Prior to installing the new replacement filter, verify that the gasket is correctly seated on the CrystalFlo water filter inlet/outlet tube. It may have become dislodged during shipping or unpacking.
- Align the CrystalFlo water filter with the dispenser openings. Press down firmly to secure the water filter in its place. Confirm that the foam gasket is pressed down and creates a complete seal for the reservoir. [Illustration: A water filter being aligned with the dispenser's internal openings and pushed down firmly.]
- Close the top lid by pushing downwards until it locks into position. If the lid does not close properly, re-examine the CrystalFlo filter to ensure it is fully inserted. [Illustration: The dispenser's top lid being pushed down to secure it.]
- Clean the dispenser's cabinet, bottle receptacle, and faucets using 70% isopropyl alcohol or disinfectant wipes. Vacuum or wipe the rear grille of the dispenser to remove any accumulated dust.
-
Clean the drip tray and its grille by emptying the tray and washing both components with dish soap, or by placing them on the top rack of a dishwasher.

Tip: The drip tray and grille should be cleaned on a monthly basis.
- Wipe down the dispenser and the surrounding area to dry any spilled water.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Clean the new water bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol or a disinfectant wipe, and then place it onto the dispenser.
-
Dispense water from both the cold and hot water faucets to prime the water dispenser. Activate the hot water tank heater switch, which is located on the rear of the dispenser.
