How to Clean Your Water Dispenser

? This guide provides instructions for cleaning and maintaining your water dispenser, including replacing the SmartFlo™ cartridge.

Introduction

The exterior of your water dispenser should be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a year, and the SmartFlo™ cartridge should be replaced every 6 months.

?Note: Areas with high TDS/mineral content will require the SmartFlo™ cartridge to be changed more frequently than areas with low or no TDS/mineral content.

If you do not have a replacement cartridge on hand, you can order one directly. Your replacement kit will include a SmartFlo™ cartridge, a bottle adapter, a lid key, and a bottle tube cap.

Before starting any cleaning, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

?Tip: The best time to replace your water cartridge is when the existing water bottle is empty.

What You Need

If you are not replacing the SmartFlo™ cartridge, you can skip to steps 16 to 18.

⚠️WARNING: Always handle hot water with care.

Cleaning and Cartridge Replacement Steps

Step 1: Prepare for Cleaning

Slide the dispenser door upwards and turn off the hot water tank switch (refer to Fig. 1). Let the unit rest for one hour before cleaning to allow the hot water tank to cool.

Fig. 1: Illustrates sliding the dispenser door upwards and pointing to the hot water tank switch.

Step 2: Remove Bottle and Clean Interior

Remove the empty water bottle (refer to Fig. 2). Clean the interior cabinet with 70% rubbing alcohol or disinfectant wipes approved for food-contact surfaces.

Fig. 2: Shows the water bottle removed and the interior cabinet being wiped clean.

Step 3: Disconnect Bottle Tube

Disconnect the bottle tube connected to the water bottle neck. Connect the bottle tube with the red cap provided in the SmartFlo™ replacement kit (refer to Fig. 3).

Fig. 3: Close-up showing the bottle tube being disconnected and the red cap being attached.

Step 4: Prepare for Cartridge Removal

Close the dispenser door. Place a glass or other container under the water taps to catch any drips. Remove the cup holders, if applicable. Open the dispenser lid using the key provided in the replacement kit (refer to Fig. 4).

Fig. 4: Depicts closing the dispenser door, placing a container under taps, and using a key to open the lid.

Step 5: Release Cartridge Lock

Remove the SmartFlo™ cartridge and bottle tube by releasing the blue lock arm and turning the two blue knobs to the open position (refer to Fig. 5).

Fig. 5: Shows the blue lock arm being released and blue knobs turned to the open position.

Step 6: Remove Old Cartridge

Pull the water cartridge upwards (refer to Fig. 6). Do not squeeze the water reservoir, as water may leak.

?Tip: Keep a bucket nearby to discard the used SmartFlo™ cartridge and bottle tube, which will contain water.

Fig. 6: Illustrates pulling the water cartridge upwards from its housing.

?Note: If the SmartFlo™ cartridge does not move when pulling upwards, unplug the dispenser from the wall outlet, wait 5 minutes, and then plug it back in.

Step 7: Insert New Bottle Tube

With gloves, insert the new bottle tube through the indicated opening (refer to Fig. 7).

Fig. 7: Shows a hand inserting the new bottle tube into the dispenser's intake port.

Step 8: Install New Cartridge

Insert the new SmartFlo™ cartridge and secure it in place by pressing down (refer to Fig. 8).

Fig. 8: Shows a hand pushing the new SmartFlo™ cartridge down into its housing.

Step 9: Secure Cartridge and Close Lid

Turn the blue knobs to the closed position. Close and engage the blue lock arm (refer to Fig. 9). Close the dispenser lid by pushing down to lock it in place.

Fig. 9: Depicts turning blue knobs to closed, engaging lock arm, and closing the dispenser lid.

Step 10: Prepare New Bottle Adapter

With gloves, carefully unpack the new bottle adapter. Pull the adapter tube to straighten it (refer to Fig. 10) and insert it into a new water bottle. Insert the tube into the water bottle until it reaches the bottom.

Fig. 10: Shows unpacking the bottle adapter and straightening its tube.

Step 11: Connect Tube to Adapter

Remove the red protective cap from the bottle tube (refer to Fig. 11). Install it onto the bottle adapter (refer to Fig. 12).

Fig. 11: Close-up of bottle tube with red cap being removed. Fig. 12: Shows tube being installed onto bottle adapter.

Step 12: Install New Bottle

Slide the water bottle into the cabinet and close the door.

Step 13: Clean Exterior Components

Clean the taps, bottle receptacle, and cabinet with 70% rubbing alcohol or wipes approved for food-contact surfaces. Vacuum or wipe the grill on the back of the dispenser to remove dust.

?Tip: The exterior of the dispenser should be cleaned every 6 months.

Step 14: Clean Drip Tray and Grill

Clean the drip tray and grill by emptying the tray and cleaning it with dish soap or by placing them on the top rack of the dishwasher (refer to Fig. 13).

?Tip: The drip tray and grill should be cleaned monthly.

Fig. 13: Illustrates cleaning the drip tray and grill.

Step 15: Final Wipe Down

Wipe down the dispenser and surrounding area to dry any water spills.

Step 16: Final Hand Wash

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Step 17: Prepare Dispenser for Use

Prepare the dispenser for filling the reservoir by holding the cold water tap for 1 minute or until water flows continuously. Repeat with the hot water tap until water flows continuously. Turn on the hot water tank switch.

?Sequence:

  1. Load the water bottle FIRST.
  2. Dispense water from the hot and cold taps.
  3. THEN turn on the hot water tank switch.

⚠️WARNING: Dispense water from the hot and cold taps before turning on the hot water tank switch. Failure to follow proper installation instructions may damage the water dispenser.
