JASCO Smart Door/Window Sensor
Installation and Pairing Guide
Getting to Know Your New Z-Wave Device
Your new Z-Wave device is a wireless door/window sensor designed to detect when a door or window is opened or closed. It is compatible with Z-Wave certified hubs.
Key Components:
- Sensor (A): The main unit that detects the open/closed state.
- Magnet (B): A small magnet that works in conjunction with the sensor.
- Adhesive Strips (C): For mounting the sensor and magnet without screws.
- Mounting Screws (D): For a more permanent installation of the sensor and magnet.
- Battery (E): The power source for the sensor.
- Mounting Bracket (F): A bracket to help secure the sensor.
The sensor unit includes an LED indicator light for status feedback and a tamper switch, which is used for pairing. The battery compartment is also accessible on the sensor unit.
Installation
Proper installation involves correctly mounting the sensor and the magnet, ensuring they are aligned and within the specified gap distance when the door or window is closed.
Mounting the Sensor and Magnet:
The sensor (A) is typically mounted on the door or window frame, while the magnet (B) is mounted on the corresponding door or window edge. The diagrams show that the sensor and magnet should be aligned with each other, with their indicated marks facing each other. When the door or window is closed, the gap between the sensor and the magnet must be less than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) for reliable detection.
You can use the included adhesive strips (C) for a quick installation or the mounting screws (D) for a more secure, permanent attachment.
Mounting Examples:
Visual examples demonstrate mounting the sensor on a door frame and the magnet on the door edge. Another example shows the sensor on a window frame and the magnet on the window sash. These illustrations emphasize the importance of aligning the components correctly and maintaining the specified gap.
Pairing with Your Z-Wave Hub
To integrate the sensor into your smart home system, you need to add it to your Z-Wave network. Follow the specific instructions provided by your Z-Wave hub manufacturer for adding a new device.
The pairing process typically involves activating the sensor. On the JASCO Smart Door/Window Sensor, this is done by pressing the tamper switch (located on the sensor unit) three times quickly. The LED indicator on the sensor will blink to confirm that it has entered pairing mode and successfully connected to the hub.
Mounting Scenarios
The guide provides visual aids for various mounting configurations to ensure optimal performance across different door and window types:
- Standard Door: Sensor mounted on the frame, magnet on the door's edge.
- Standard Window: Sensor mounted on the window frame, magnet on the window sash.
- Sliding Door/Window: Illustrations show how to mount the sensor on the fixed frame and the magnet on the movable part.
All scenarios highlight the need for proper alignment of the sensor and magnet, using the alignment marks as a guide, and ensuring the gap remains within the operational limit when the opening is closed.
