Somfy Sonesse2 40 PoE

Original Instructions

Prior Information

These instructions apply to all Sonesse2 40 PoE drives. PoE = Power Over Ethernet.

Field of Application

The Sonesse 40 drives are designed to motorise interior blinds, and interior venetian blinds with a bottom bar that moves solely by gravity, with a mass less than 15 kg.

Liability

Before installing and using the drive, please read these instructions carefully. In addition to these instructions, comply with the attached Safety Instructions document. The drive must be installed by a home motorisation and automation professional, in accordance with Somfy's instructions and applicable regulations. Any operation outside the described field of application is prohibited and absolves Somfy of liability and invalidates the warranty. The installer must inform customers of operating and maintenance conditions and provide them with the relevant instructions. After-Sales Service must be performed by a professional. Always check product compatibility before installation. For more information, contact a Somfy representative or visit www.somfy.com.

Installation

[WARNING] These instructions are mandatory for the professional installer. Comply with current standards and legislation.

[CAUTION] Never drop, knock, puncture, or immerse the drive. Install an individual control point for each drive. Minimize gaps between the drive, accessories, tube, and end piece for silent operation. Never cut or remove the cable label.

Assembly

Replace the head cover with a different color (Optional)

The head cover is interchangeable to match the fabric color. To replace: 1. Unclip the cover. 2. Clip the new cover onto the head.

Preparing the drive

[CAUTION] The Sonesse2 40 PoE requires a tube interior diameter of Ø37 mm or greater. The crown is mandatory.

1. Fit the accessories required to integrate the drive into the tube: Fit the crown (a) and the wheel (b) to the drive.

2. Measure the length (L) between the inner edge of the drive head and the rim of the wheel.

Preparing the tube

1. Cut the tube to the required length.

2. Deburr the tube and remove any debris.

Assembling the drive-tube

1. Slide the drive into the tube. For tubes with a smooth interior, position the notch on the crown.

2. The wheel must be locked in place to prevent any movement in the tube. This can be achieved by fastening the tube to the wheel using self-tapping screws or steel pop rivets (placed between 5 mm and 15 mm from the outer edge of the wheel), or by using a wheel lock for non-smooth tubes.

[CAUTION] Screws or pop rivets must only be fastened on the wheel, not on the drive.

Installing the drive-tube assembly

[CAUTION] The motorized product must not be compressed between the brackets. Do not use the plastic cross without the metal bracket adapter.

The drive can be fixed directly onto the drive bracket using 2 screws (3.5 x 9 mm) with a manual tightening torque of 1 Nm. Drive plates are also available; use the 2 screws (3 x 6 mm) provided with the motor plate, with a manual tightening torque of 0.6 Nm.

1. Screw the bracket adapter to the drive head.

2. Install and fix the drive-tube assembly onto the end bracket (c) and onto the drive bracket (d).

[CAUTION] Do not let the tube hang by the head side only. Ensure the drive-tube assembly is secured onto the end bracket to prevent it from coming out. Minimize light gap and be careful not to pinch the cable or have it contact moving parts.

Wiring

[PRECAUTION] Cables routed through a metal wall must be protected and insulated. Secure cables to prevent contact with moving parts. The drive cable is not removable; if damaged, return the drive to After-Sales.

[CAUTION] Leave the power supply cable accessible for easy replacement. Always make a loop in the power supply cable to prevent water entry. External power supply is not provided by Somfy. Power supply must be installed indoors only, within a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C (104°F). Wiring must comply with the National Electric Code (NEC) and relevant local codes. Interconnection wiring may not be provided by Somfy.

Connect the PoE drive to the PoE switch.

[NOTICE] Use only a compatible switch. Check the power delivered by the switch. A female-to-female connector and Cat 5e (mini) extension cable can be used if needed. Maximum length between switch and drive is 100 m (330 feet).

Commissioning

Commissioning is done via:

  • WebGUI (for individual drive settings): Use a web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone connected to the network. Enter the drive's Hostname (on the label) in the address field and follow instructions.
  • PoE Config Tool (for discovering multiple drives): Download the program from https://www.somfy.com/projects/downloads. A certificate and API are required for product integration. Request information at https://www.somfypro.com/partner-with-us. (*For Android versions <13, enter the IP address.)
