This manual provides essential safety information and operating instructions for the Ryobi FVD50 USB Lithium Screwdriver.
General Power Tool Safety Warnings

- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
- Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance.
- Dress properly; avoid loose clothing, jewelry, and keep hair away from moving parts.
- Ensure dust extraction and collection facilities are connected and properly used if provided.
- Do not let familiarity lead to complacency; always be vigilant.
- Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair.
- Do not use on a ladder or unstable support.
Power Tool Use and Care
- Do not force the power tool; use the correct tool for the application.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
- Disconnect the plug or remove the battery pack before making adjustments or changing accessories.
- Store idle power tools out of reach of children.
- Maintain power tools and accessories; check for misalignment, broken parts, or any other condition that may affect operation. Have damaged tools repaired before use.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
- Use the power tool, accessories, and tool bits in accordance with instructions, considering working conditions.
- Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
Battery Tool Use and Care
- Recharge only with the specified charger.
- Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.
- Keep battery packs away from metal objects when not in use.
- Avoid contact with battery liquid if ejected; flush with water if contact occurs.
- Do not use damaged or modified battery packs or tools.
- Do not expose battery packs or tools to fire or excessive temperature.
- Follow all charging instructions and do not charge outside the specified temperature range.
Service
- Have power tools serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.
- Never service damaged battery packs; only the manufacturer or authorized service providers should perform this.
Screwdriver Safety Warnings
- Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when contacting hidden wiring.
- Know your power tool; read the operator's manual carefully.
- Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1.
- Protect your lungs; wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty.

Operation
WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with this product to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury.
WARNING: Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Hearing protection may also be required depending on the type of attachment used and as prescribed elsewhere in this Operator's Manual. Failure to do so could result in objects being thrown into your eyes and other possible serious injuries.

Applications
This product may be used for the purposes listed below:
- Driving screws with screwdriver bits
- Light-duty drilling
Installing/Removing Battery Pack
See Figure 1, page 9.
To install:
- Turn the battery cap counterclockwise to unlock and remove.
- Insert the battery pack into the product as shown.
- Align the grooves in the cap with the tabs on the end of the tool.
- Place the cap over the battery pack and push down.
- Turn the battery cap clockwise to lock in place.
- NOTE: Do not attempt to use this product if the battery cap is not securely closed.
To remove:
- Turn the battery cap counterclockwise to unlock and remove.
- Remove the battery pack from the tool.
- For complete charging instructions, see the operator's manuals for your battery pack and charger.
WARNING: Battery products are always in operating condition. Therefore, the switch should always be locked when not in use or carrying at your side.
LED Indicator Functions
See Figure 1, page 9.
When a charged battery pack is installed in the tool, the LED indicator will show the status of the battery when the tool is powered on.

High Temperature Protection
This tool is equipped with a high temperature protection feature that automatically deactivates the tool when it is overheated. To resume operation, allow the tool to cool and then turn the tool on.
In-line/Pivot Position
See Figures 2 - 3, page 9.
The screwdriver can be used in the in-line or pivot position. A pivot locking button is located on the top of the screwdriver.
To place the screwdriver in the in-line position: Hold in normal operating position, press pivot locking button down and twist front housing fully to the right.
To place the screwdriver in the pivot position: Hold in normal operating position, press pivot locking button down and twist front housing fully to the left.
Direction of Rotation
See Figure 4, page 10.
The direction of bit rotation is reversible and is controlled by a selector located on the rear of the handle. With the screwdriver held in the in-line position, the direction of rotation selector should be positioned fully forward for forward motion and fully back for reverse. With the screwdriver held in the pivot position, the direction of rotation selector should be positioned fully up for forward motion and fully down for reverse.
Setting the direction of rotation selector in the center (locked) position helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use.
NOTE: The screwdriver will not run unless the direction of rotation selector is pushed fully up/forward or down/back.
NOTICE: To prevent gear damage, always allow the collet to come to a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation.
To Load/Release Bits
See Figure 5, page 10.
Insert the bit into the collet and push the bit in as far as possible. To remove a bit, pull the bit straight out of the collet.
LED Lights
See Figure 6, page 10.
The LED lights, located on the front of the tool, illuminate during operation.
Driving Screws
See Figure 7 - 8, page 10.
- Place the screwdriver in the in-line or pivot position.
- Hold the tool firmly and place the bit at the point where the screw is to be driven.
WARNING: Do not drive a screw where there is likely to be hidden wiring behind the surface. Contact with a “live” wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and possibly shock the operator. If you must drive a screw where hidden wire may be present, always hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces (handle) when performing the operation to prevent a shock to the operator.
- Press the forward or reverse button to start the tool.
- Apply only enough pressure to keep driving the screw. Do not force the tool. Let the tool do the work.
Maintenance
WARNING: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other part could create a hazard or cause product damage.
General Maintenance
- Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents.
- Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.
