Ryobi OP404 40V Lithium-Ion Battery Charger
This operator's manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of the Ryobi OP404 40V Lithium-Ion Battery Charger.
Safety Rules for Charger
WARNING: Read and understand all instructions before using the charger to reduce the risk of injury. Failure to follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury.
- Charge only one lithium-ion rechargeable battery at a time.
- Do not use the charger outdoors or expose it to wet or damp conditions.
- Do not charge a battery that is wet or has been exposed to liquids.
- Use only attachments recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not abuse the cord or charger. Never carry the charger by the cord.
- Keep cords away from heat, sharp edges, and moving parts.
- Always wear eye protection compliant with ANSI Z87.1.
- Use extension cords only when necessary and ensure they are properly rated and wired.
- Do not operate a damaged charger.
- Do not disassemble the charger; refer servicing to authorized personnel.
- Unplug the charger before cleaning or maintenance.
- Disconnect the charger when not in use to prevent damage from power surges or falling objects.
- Do not touch uninsulated parts of the output connector or battery terminals.
- Do not charge batteries in extreme temperatures (below 50°F or above 100°F).

Assembly

Operation
WARNING: Do not become careless due to familiarity with the product. A moment's inattention can cause serious injury.
WARNING: Always wear eye protection compliant with ANSI Z87.1.
Applications
This product is used for charging RYOBI 40 Volt Lithium-ion batteries.
Charging
Battery packs are shipped in a low charge condition and should be charged before first use.
- Turn the battery pack upside down so the latch faces up.
- Align the raised ribs on the battery pack with the grooves in the charger and slide the charger onto the battery pack. The connection may feel slightly loose, which is normal.
- Press down on the charger to ensure proper contact engagement. The latch should snap into place.
- Ensure the power supply is 120 Volts, AC only, 60 Hz.
- Do not place the charger in extreme heat or cold; it operates best at normal room temperature.
- The battery pack may become slightly warm during charging; this is normal.
- The LED will slowly flash green while charging.
- If the LED flashes green and red, a fault is detected. Refer to LED Functions for details.
- When charging is complete, the charger LED will stop flashing and remain green for approximately 5 minutes. All battery pack LEDs will turn off.
- To remove the battery pack, depress the latch and slide the charger off.
- Remove the power adapter from the power source and store the charger in a dry location.
Charging a Hot Battery Pack
If the battery pack becomes hot from continuous use, charging will not begin until the temperature cools to an acceptable range. The charger LED will turn orange and remain on. Charging will automatically begin once the battery cools.
Charging a Cold Battery Pack
If the battery pack is cold, charging will not begin until the temperature warms to an acceptable range. The charger LED will turn orange and remain on. Charging will automatically begin once the battery warms.

Maintenance
WARNING: Use only identical replacement parts when servicing. Using other parts may create a hazard or damage the product.
WARNING: Remove the battery pack before cleaning or performing any maintenance to avoid serious personal injury.
General Maintenance
Avoid using solvents on plastic parts, as most plastics are susceptible to damage. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, and grease.
WARNING: Keep plastic parts away from brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, and penetrating oils, as chemicals can damage or weaken plastic, potentially causing serious injury.
Storage
Always remove the battery pack before storing the charger or when the charger is unplugged.
