Quick Installation and Troubleshooting Guide

Troubleshooting - First Aid

Follow these steps to diagnose and resolve common issues with your kvm-tec master EASY Extender.

No Power (No LED)

Check the power plugs.

Is the power supply okay?

  • Try another extender.
  • Contact kvm-tec support.

USB Not Functioning

Are USB devices connected correctly?

Is the USB cable connected to the PC on the local side?

Are USB devices connected directly to the PC?

  • Replace the USB cable from the PC to the Local Extender.
  • Check if the local and remote units have the same firmware.
    • If you have multiple devices, check which devices are defective by swapping units.
    • Contact kvm-tec support.

No Video

Check if all cables are plugged in correctly.

Check if the PC is sending a signal by connecting a monitor to the output on the local unit.

Check if DDC is set correctly (in the menu under item "O").

  • Check if both units have the correct firmware.
  • Contact kvm-tec support.

Video Error (Stripes in Image)

Check if all cables are plugged in correctly.

Check if the PC is sending a signal by connecting a monitor to the DVI out of the local unit.

Check if DDC is set correctly (in the menu under item "o").

  • Check if the local and remote units have the correct firmware.
  • If using switching systems, check if the network switch is set up correctly and has sufficient bandwidth.
  • Contact kvm-tec support.

General Support

Check if other units exhibit the same behavior.

Contact kvm-tec support.

Quick Installation Guide

Follow these steps for a quick installation of the masterEASY Single KVM Extender.

  1. Connect the CON/Remote and the CPU/Local Unit to their respective 12V 1A power supplies.
  2. Connect the USB cable to a USB port on your PC and connect the other end of the USB cable to the CPU/Local Unit. Connect keyboard and mouse to the CON/Remote Unit.
  3. Connect the CPU/Local and the CON/Remote with a CAT5e/6/7 network cable (main link).
  4. Connect the DVI cable to the PC's DVI port and the other end to the CPU Local Unit's DVI (PC-in) port. Then connect the monitor to the CON/Remote Unit using the DVI cable.
  5. OPT: Connect PC Audio/out to Local Audio/in using the audio cable. Then connect Remote Audio/out to the microphone using the audio cable.
  6. OPT: Connect Local Audio/out to PC Audio/in and Remote Audio/out to the microphone using the audio cable.
  7. If using a switch: Connect all endpoints to the switch. Ensure all connections have a bandwidth of 1Gbit/sec. For video sharing, you need a Switch (Layer 3) that supports IGMP snooping.

Accessing the OSD Main Menu

To access the main menu, use the monitor and keyboard.

  1. Ensure the extenders, monitors, and computers are powered on.
  2. Press the Scroll Lock key five times quickly. The main menu and an overview of submenus will be displayed.
  3. To enter a submenu, press the corresponding key.

Displaying Firmware Version

Ensure the main menu is open. Under 'A' - About, the currently installed firmware version of the remote (CON) and local (CPU) extenders is displayed.

Features

By pressing the 'F' key, you enter the Features Menu. Switching mode is set by default.

Hardware Configurations

FRONTBRIDGING HARDWARE: 2 SINGLE LOCAL + 1 X DUAL REMOTE

The "Status Menu" displays the current status of the extender connection, including connection information, video channel resolution, and USB status. Link status indicates if a connection is possible. "Connected" indicates if kvm data can currently be transferred. Video and USB indicate if data is currently being transferred.
