Before You Begin

Laying Cables

Cables can be routed between and underneath LEGO bricks, plates, and tiles. Ensure cables are laid correctly between the LEGO studs. Do not force LEGO pieces together around cables; ensure they lie comfortably within each stud. ⚠️ CAUTION: Forcing LEGO pieces over a cable can damage the cable and light.

Connecting Cable Connectors to Expansion Boards

Exercise care when inserting connectors into Expansion Board ports. Connectors only fit one way. With the expansion board facing up, locate the soldered "=" symbol on the left side of the port. The connector side with exposed wires should face the "=" symbol when inserting. Do not force a plug if it doesn't fit easily. Incorrect insertion can bend pins or overheat the board.

Connecting Cable Connectors to Strip Lights

Take care when inserting connectors into Strip Light ports. Connectors only fit one way. With the Strip Light facing up, ensure the side of the connector with exposed wires faces down. Do not force a plug if it doesn't fit easily, as this will damage the plug and connector.

Connecting Micro Cable Connectors to Micro Expansion Board Ports

Exercise care when inserting micro connectors into Micro Expansion Board ports. Connecting Micro Bit Lights to Micro Expansion Boards is similar to Strip Lights. With the expansion board facing up, ensure the connector side with exposed wires faces down. If a plug doesn't fit easily, do not force it. Use a fingernail to push the plastic part of the connector into the micro port.

Installing Bit Lights Under LEGO Bricks and Plates

When installing Bit Lights under LEGO pieces, ensure they are placed correctly with the yellow LED component exposed. They can be placed directly on top of LEGO studs or in between them.

Troubleshooting

Light My Bricks components are small and can be easily damaged if not handled correctly. Always read the "Important things to note" section of the User Guide carefully and follow handling procedures to prevent faults.

If you experience issues with your light kit, watch the troubleshooting video or consult the list of common causes below.

Check Power and Batteries

Ensure batteries have power using a battery charge gauge. If no power, replace batteries. If batteries have power, check correct insertion into the battery pack. Inside the battery pack, symbols indicate correct AA battery orientation; the flat side should align with the spring side.

Check Your Wires

Light My Bricks components are small and delicate. Be careful when unpacking and avoid pulling wires forcibly, as this can damage the LED soldering. If wiring is detached from the LED, the light will not operate. Check for pinched wires between LEGO bricks and plates. Pinched wires with exposed conductors touching can cause crosswires and prevent lights from functioning.

Check Expansion Board Ports / Strip Light Ports / Effects Board Ports

Connectors must be inserted into expansion board, strip light, or effects board ports in the correct direction. Forcing connectors incorrectly can damage the pins. Damaged ports may prevent lights from working, and if pins touch, it can cause a short circuit, affecting all lights. A short circuit can also lead to overheating. If a short circuit is suspected, disconnect power immediately. Batteries can fail, catch fire, or explode if left connected to a short circuit. If a component seems faulty due to bent pins, inspect ports carefully; each port has 2 small pins that should be straight. Bent pins indicate a faulty port.
