Installing and Removing the SFP Module
Install the SFP
Follow these steps to install an SFP module:
- Step 1: Insert the SFP module into the SFP port until it clicks into place.
- Step 2: Push down the release latch on the SFP module.
- Step 3: Pull the SFP module out of the port.
Note: For SFPs without a dust plug, skip Step 2 during installation.
Remove the SFP
Follow these steps to remove an SFP module:
- Step 1: Push down the release latch on the SFP module.
- Step 2: Pull the SFP module out of the port.
Note: For SFPs without a dust plug, skip Step 2 during installation and Step 3 during removal.
Connection
For fast and reliable connectivity, use two identical modules (e.g., two SM311LS) or a pair of A/B modules (e.g., SM321A & SM321B) together.
Typical Setup (Identical Modules): Two SM311LS modules are shown connected to network devices.
A/B Pair Setup: An SM321A module is shown connected to one device, and an SM321B module is shown connected to another device.
Important Notes and Cautions
Notes
- Do not touch the output pins on the transceiver with your hand.
- Wear an ESD-preventive wrist or ankle strap to prevent ESD damage to the transceiver.
- Always keep the protective dust plug on the SFP's optical bores until you are ready to make a connection.
Caution
- DO NOT point or stare directly into the beam or into the optical port of the transceiver when it is operating, as this can injure your eyesight.
