Installing and Removing the SFP Module

Install the SFP

Follow these steps to install an SFP module:

Step 1: Insert the SFP module into the SFP port until it clicks into place.
Step 2: Push down the release latch on the SFP module.
Step 3: Pull the SFP module out of the port.

Note: For SFPs without a dust plug, skip Step 2 during installation.

Remove the SFP

Follow these steps to remove an SFP module:

Step 1: Push down the release latch on the SFP module.
Step 2: Pull the SFP module out of the port.

Note: For SFPs without a dust plug, skip Step 2 during installation and Step 3 during removal.

Connection

For fast and reliable connectivity, use two identical modules (e.g., two SM311LS) or a pair of A/B modules (e.g., SM321A & SM321B) together.

Typical Setup (Identical Modules): Two SM311LS modules are shown connected to network devices.

A/B Pair Setup: An SM321A module is shown connected to one device, and an SM321B module is shown connected to another device.

Important Notes and Cautions

Notes

Do not touch the output pins on the transceiver with your hand.
Wear an ESD-preventive wrist or ankle strap to prevent ESD damage to the transceiver.
Always keep the protective dust plug on the SFP's optical bores until you are ready to make a connection.

Caution

DO NOT point or stare directly into the beam or into the optical port of the transceiver when it is operating, as this can injure your eyesight.
