Getting Started
This section provides an overview of your dēzl device and initial setup steps.
Device Overview
The dēzl device features the following components:
- 1 Microphone for Voice Command or hands-free calling ?
- 2 Power button ?
- 3 USB power and data port ?
- 4 Camera memory card slot ?
- 5 Map and data memory card slot ?
Installation
Dash Camera Memory Card: Insert a microSD card (4-64 GB, Class 10 or higher) into the camera memory card slot 1 and press until it clicks. Ensure it is in the correct slot for recording.
Mounting Considerations: Mount the device securely in your vehicle, ensuring it does not obstruct the driver's view or interfere with vehicle operating controls. Clean the windshield thoroughly before installing the mount.
Mounting and Powering: Press the suction cup to the windshield and flip the lever. Plug the vehicle power cable into the device's USB port 2 and then into your vehicle's power outlet. Attach the device to the mount until it clicks.
Turning the Device On or Off
Press the power button 1 to turn the device on. To enter power saving mode, press the power button while the device is on. To turn off completely, hold the power button until a prompt appears and select 'Off'.
Acquiring GPS Signals
Upon turning on, the device collects satellite data to establish your current location. This may take several minutes, especially the first time. Ensure a clear view of the sky. The status bar indicates signal strength.
Home Screen
The home screen provides access to key functions like 'Where To?', 'View Map', 'Dash Cam', 'Route Planner', 'Gallery', and 'Saved'. The status bar displays icons for GPS signal ?, Bluetooth ?, Wi-Fi ?, battery ?, time ⏰, and other device statuses.
Opening an App
Access apps via shortcuts on the home screen or through the app drawer.
Status Bar Icons
Icons in the status bar provide information on GPS signal ?, Bluetooth ?, Wi-Fi ?, hands-free calling ?, active vehicle profile ?, Garmin eLog ?, time ⏰, battery charge ?, dēzl app connection ?, temperature ?️, and dash cam recording status ?.
Using the Touchscreen
Interact with the device by tapping to select, dragging/swiping to pan/scroll, and pinching to zoom.
Adjusting Screen Brightness
Navigate to > Display > Brightness and use the slider.
Adjusting the Volume
Select ? and use the slider bar to adjust volume, or select the mute icon.
Vehicle Profiles
Configure profiles for different vehicles to optimize routing and features. Routing and navigation are calculated based on the active profile.
Adding a Vehicle Profile
From the home screen, select > Vehicle Profile > +. Choose your vehicle type (e.g., Straight Truck, Tractor) and follow the on-screen instructions to enter characteristics like weight and dimensions.
Car Profile
A preloaded profile for automobiles, using standard routing. Features specific to large vehicles are not available.
Switching the Vehicle Profile
Select the vehicle profile icon in the status bar and choose the desired profile.
Changing Your Trailer Information
Select > Vehicle Profile, choose your tractor profile, then select trailer configuration options.
Editing a Vehicle Profile
Select > Vehicle Profile, choose the profile to edit, and then select options to edit information, rename, or delete the profile.
Dash Cam
Manage your dash camera recordings and footage.
Aligning the Camera
WARNING: Do not align the camera while driving. Select > Dash Cam > Camera Placement. Adjust Horizontal Position and Vehicle Height, then select Alignment. Tilt the device to align the camera so it points straight ahead with the horizon centered.
Dash Cam Recording
NOTICE: Be aware of local laws regarding audio and video recording.
The dash cam records video to the memory card. Recording starts automatically when the device powers on. The device can be set to automatically delete older unsaved video to free up space. You can manually save video recordings to prevent them from being overwritten.
Saving a Dash Cam Recording
While recording, select Dash Cam > [save icon]. You can optionally extend the recording time.
Stopping or Starting Dash Camera Recording
Select Dash Cam, then choose to stop or start recording.
Turning Audio Recording On or Off
Select > Dash Cam > Record Audio to toggle audio recording.
Viewing Videos and Photos
Select Gallery > Yes, then select a video or photo. The device stops recording while viewing.
Videos on Your Computer
Media is stored in the DCIM folder on the memory card (MP4 for video, JPG for photos). Folders include EVENT (incident-based), SAVED (manual), PHOTO, and UNSVD (unsaved).
Deleting a Video or Photo
Select Gallery > Yes, select the item, then select > Yes.
Vault Storage
Upload, manage, and share dash camera footage via secure online storage. Requires Wi-Fi connection. An optional subscription is available for extended storage.
Sharing a Video
From the dēzl app, select Vault, choose a video, and select 'Send a Secure Link'.
Editing and Exporting a Video
Trim video length using the progress bar handles before exporting to the Vault and your smartphone. Audio can be included optionally.
Disabling a Shared Video Link
From the dēzl app, select Vault, choose a video, and select 'Disable Link'.
Removing a Video from the Vault
From the dēzl app, select Vault, choose a video, and select 'Remove From Vault'.
Driver Awareness Features and Alerts
The device offers features to promote safer driving and efficiency.
CAUTION: Driver alerts are for information only and do not replace the need to obey traffic laws and signs.
Alerts include: Schools, Speed limit exceeded (indicated by a red border), Speed limit reduced, Wrong way on a one-way street (full-screen warning), Railroad crossing, Animal crossing, Curves, Slower traffic, Construction zone, Lane closure, Break planning (suggests rest stops), No trucks allowed, Risk of grounding, Lateral wind, Narrow road, Steep hill, State and country borders, Forward collision warning, and Lane departure warning.
Enabling or Disabling Driver Alerts
Select > Driver Assistance > Driver Alerts, then check or clear the boxes for each alert type.
Red Light and Speed Cameras
NOTICE: Garmin is not responsible for the accuracy of red light/speed camera data. This feature may not be available in all regions.
The device alerts you to reported speed or red light cameras. You can update the camera database using Garmin Express software (garmin.com/express).
Finding and Saving Locations
Locate destinations using various methods provided by the 'Where To?' menu.
Using the Search Bar
Select Where To? > Search. Enter a category, brand name, address, or city name. Suggested terms appear as you type.
Finding an Address
Select Where To? > Address. Follow prompts to enter address details.
Location Search Results
Results are listed by proximity. Options include viewing the map, planning arrival, viewing details, selecting alternate routes, or navigating (Go!).
Changing the Search Area
Select the current search area to search near your destination, another city, or along your active route.
Points of Interest (POI)
The device includes POIs like gas stations, restaurants, and hotels. Trucking POIs include truck stops, rest areas, and weigh stations. Find them via Categories > Trucking.
TruckDown Points of Interest
Lists businesses for the trucking industry (repair, tire sales) in North America. Select Where To? > Truck Locations/Truck Services.
CAT Scale Locations
Search for CAT Scale locations in North America via Where To? > CAT Scale.
Tripadvisor
Browse Tripadvisor traveler ratings for restaurants, hotels, and attractions.
Foursquare
Access millions of pre-loaded Foursquare points of interest.
Finding a Location by Category
Select Where To?, then a category or 'Categories' to browse POIs.
Parking
Find truck parking via Where To? > Truck Parking. Truck Parking Europe is also available.
Search Tools
Find intersections (Where To? > Intersections) or locations by coordinates (Where To? > Coordinates).
Viewing Recently Found Locations
Access a history of the last 50 locations via Where To? > Recent.
Clearing Recently Found Locations
Select Where To? > Recent > [clear icon] > Clear > Yes.
Finding Emergency Services and Fuel
From the map, select the vehicle icon, then select Hospitals, Police Stations, Truck Stops, or Fuel.
Getting Directions to Your Current Location
From the map, select the vehicle icon, then > Directions to Me. Select a starting location and then Select.
Adding/Removing a Shortcut
Use Where To? > Add Shortcut or Where To? > [menu icon] > Remove Shortcut(s).
Saving Locations
Search for a location, select it, then select > Save. You can save your current location or edit existing saved locations. Saved locations sync with your Garmin account via the dēzl app.
Navigating to Your Destination
Plan and follow routes to your destinations.
Routes
A route is a path calculated based on your preferences and avoidances. The device can automatically avoid inappropriate roads for your vehicle profile.
Starting a Route
Select Where To?, search for a location, select it, and then choose Go! for the recommended route or select an alternate route.
Starting a Route by Using the Map
Select View Map, pan/zoom to the desired area, select a location marker or point, and then select Go!.
Going Home
Select Where To? > Go Home. Enter your home location if prompted.
Your Route on the Map
The map displays the next action, distance, street name, route highlight, map tools, and data fields. You can customize the data field.
Active Lane Guidance
Provides a detailed simulation of the road and indicates the proper lane for turns and exits.
Viewing Popular Truck Paths
Enable the device to highlight popular truck paths on the map for easier route selection.
Viewing Turns and Directions
While navigating, select > Turns to view upcoming turns and directions.
Viewing the Entire Route on the Map
Select anywhere on the map, then select [route icon] to view the complete route.
Planning Your Arrival
Provides information related to your arrival, such as estimated time and parking availability.
Shaping Your Route
Customize your route by adding shaping points to influence the path.
Taking a Detour
Reroute around specific areas or road segments.
Changing Route Calculation Mode
Adjust how the device calculates routes based on various criteria.

End the current navigation session.
