Chapter 1. Safety Instructions

Always follow these safety instructions when setting up and using the VS-PTC-200 Camera Controller:

Use attachments only as recommended.
Use the type of power source indicated on the Camera Controller. If you are not sure of the type of power available, consult your distributor or local electricity company for advice.
Always take the following precautions when handling the plug. Failure to do so may result in sparks or fire:
- Ensure the plug is free of dust before inserting it into a socket.
- Ensure that the plug is inserted into the socket securely.
Do not overload wall sockets, extension leads or multi-way plug boards as this may cause fire or electric shock.
Do not place the Camera Controller where the cord can be stepped on as this may result in fraying or damage to the lead or the plug.
Never allow liquid of any kind to spill into the Camera Controller.
Except as specifically instructed in this User Manual, do not attempt to operate this product by yourself. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages and other hazards. Refer all servicing to licensed service personnel.
Unplug the VS-PTC-200 during thunderstorms or if it is not going to be used for an extended period. Do not place the Camera Controller or remote control on top of vibrating equipment or heated objects such as a car, etc.
Unplug the VS-PTC-200 from the wall outlet and refer servicing to licensed service personnel when the following situations happen:
- If the power cable or plug becomes damaged or frayed.
- If the Camera Controller is wet with liquid, rain or water.

Note: Using an incorrect battery type in the remote control may result in breakdown. Follow local instructions on how to dispose of used batteries.

Precautions

Warning: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. If Camera Controller will not be used for an extended time, unplug it from the power socket.

Chapter 2. About The Product

2.1 Introduction

The VS-PTC-200 Compact Camera Controller is a full-function system keyboard. With features of ergonomic design, multi-function, high reliability and easy operation, it is a perfect controller for rugged PTZ cameras, video conference cameras, surveillance cameras and so on.

2.4 Parts and View

The VS-PTC-200 features the following controls:

1. 0~9 (Numbers): Input numbers for presets or camera selection.
2. CALL (Call preset): Input a preset number, then press CALL to recall that preset.
3. CAMERA (Switch cameras): Input a camera number, then press CAMERA to switch to that camera.
4. SET (Set / Clear preset): Input a preset number. Short press to set a preset; long press to clear a preset.
5. SETUP (Enter setup menu): Press to enter the main setup menu for programming the keyboard.
6. MIRROR (flip the image): Press to control the image flip (horizontal or vertical) of the camera.
7. BACK LIGHT (Turn on/off Camera back light compensation): Press to toggle camera back light compensation.
8. FREEZE (Freeze the screen): Press to freeze the current image from the camera.
9. LOCK (keyboard lock): Press to lock the control keyboard. A user password is required to unlock.
10. POWER (Power switch): Press to turn the camera on or off.
11. ESC (Exit / Delete): Used to exit a menu or delete input.
12. ENT (Confirm): Used to confirm menu settings.
13. BRT- (Turn down the brightness): Decrease the display brightness.
14. Joystick: Used for Pan, Tilt, Zoom, and Focus control.
- Non-Menu State:
- Left/Right/Up/Down: Pan/Tilt the camera.
- Twist clockwise: Zoom In. Twist anti-clockwise: Zoom Out.
- Press Zoom/Focus Switch Key (16) then Twist: Adjust Focus Near/Far.
- Menu State:
- Right: Enter a submenu or Confirm.
- Left: Return to previous menu or exit (some menus are not returnable).
- Up: Move to the previous option.
- Down: Move to the next option.
15. BRT+ (Turn up the brightness): Increase the display brightness.
16. Zoom / Focus Switch Key: Toggles the joystick's function between Zoom and Focus control.
- Press this key: The indicator light near the joystick turns off, and joystick movement controls Zoom (In/Out).
- Press this key again: The indicator light turns on, and joystick movement controls Focus (Near/Far).
17. MENU (Enter Camera Menu): Press to enter the camera's on-screen display (OSD) menu.

2.5 Connections

The VS-PTC-200 connects to cameras and power sources via specific ports.

2.5.1 Connections Diagram Description

RS-422: Connects to a camera via RS-422 interface.
RS232 IN: Connects to a camera via RS-232 interface.
Power DC12V: Connects to a DC 12V power supply.

Chapter 3. Setting Menu

Press [SETUP] on the remote control to enter the setting menu. The default values are indicated in bold and underlined.

		5m / 1m / 30s	Enter sleep mode after 5 minutes, 1 minute, or 30 seconds of inactivity.
Pin Setting	-	User	Set the user PIN for basic access.
Pin Setting	-	Admin	Set the administrator PIN for advanced settings.
Joystick Calib	Pan Left	-	Calibrate the joystick's leftward movement.
	Pan Right	-	Calibrate the joystick's rightward movement.
	Tilt Up	-	Calibrate the joystick's upward movement.
	Tilt Down	-	Calibrate the joystick's downward movement.
	Zoom Tele	-	Calibrate the joystick's zoom-in (tele) twist.
	Zoom Wide	-	Calibrate the joystick's zoom-out (wide) twist.
	Free State	-	Set the neutral position for the joystick. No operation needed, just confirm.
Speed Setting	-	High / Middle / Low	Set the control speed sensitivity of the joystick.
Default Setting	-	Yes / No	Restore the keyboard settings to factory defaults.
Information	-	-	Displays related information for the control keyboard.

Chapter 4. Menu Operation

After powering on, the controller displays "USER PIN". The initial user PIN is "111111".

Pin Error: If "USER PIN ERROR" is displayed, an incorrect PIN was entered. Enter the correct PIN to proceed.
Pin Correct: The screen shows a camera icon and the default camera number. If no operation occurs for a period, the current time is displayed. If inactivity continues, the controller enters sleep mode.

Entering OSD Menu

Press the [SETUP] key. The screen displays "ADMIN PIN:". The initial admin PIN is "111111".

4.1 Camera Setting

Set the camera ID (range 1-255), corresponding protocol, baud rate, and camera address for target cameras. This allows easy control of each camera by selecting its relative camera ID.

Use the joystick to move up/down and select "CAMERA SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter the menu.
Input the camera number (range 1-255) using the number keys. If the input exceeds the range, "ERROR" will be shown. Press [ENT] to confirm after setting.
Protocol Setting Menu: Move the joystick up/down to choose the protocol (VISCA / PELCO-D).
Note: VISCA protocol only works with Camera IDs 1-7.
Baud Rate Setting: Move the joystick up/down to select the baud rate. Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.
Address Setting: Input the number to set the camera address (range 1-7). Press [ENT] to confirm.
After camera settings are finished, the system automatically returns to the main menu.

4.2 Time Setting

Set the time in 24-hour format.

Move the joystick up/down to select "TIME SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter the time setting menu. The "H" (hour) becomes editable. Input digits from the keypad or move the joystick up/down to set the "H" (range: 0-23). If digits are entered via keypad, the setting automatically moves to "M" (minute). If set by joystick, move the joystick right to get into "M" minute setting. Move the joystick right/left to select between "H", "M", and "S" settings.
"M" minute setting menu: Set the "M" minute and "S" second, referring to the "H" hour setting method.
Press [ENT] to save and return to the Main Menu.

4.3 Volume Setting

Six levels of volume are available, from low to high.

Move the joystick up/down to select "VOLUME SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter "VOLUME SETTING". After setting, move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.

4.4 Backlight Setting

The backlight mode ensures keys are visible even in very dark environments.

Move the joystick up/down to select "BACKLIGHT MODE".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter "BACKLIGHT MODE". Move the joystick up/down to select backlight options. Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.

4.5 Sleep Setting

Set the sleep time for the controller. In non-menu status, the screen enters sleep mode if no operation is performed for the programmed period.

Move the joystick up/down to select "SLEEP SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter "SLEEP SETTING" .
Move the joystick up/down to select the sleep time. Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.

4.6 Pin Setting

Set user and administrator PINs for the controller.

Move the joystick up/down to select "PIN SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter "PIN SETTING". Move the joystick up/down to select the PIN digits. Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.
Enter the PIN setting menu. "OLD PIN" requires input; press [ESC] to cancel digit input. If the correct PIN is entered, it proceeds to the "NEW PIN" menu. If an incorrect PIN is entered, "ERROR" is displayed.
Input "NEW PIN".
"CONFIRM": After inputting the new PIN, enter it again to confirm. If the two PINs do not match, "PIN NOT MATCH" is displayed, and the menu returns to "NEW PIN".
If the two PINs match, "OK!" is displayed, and the new PIN becomes applicable.

To disable "PIN PROTECTION", do not input any digits in both "NEW PIN" and "CONFIRM" fields; press [ENT] directly to confirm. To enable "PIN PROTECTION" again, set new PINs with digits.

During these operations, press [ESC] to exit the PIN setting menu.

4.7 Joystick Calibration

The joystick may require calibration after extended use.

Move the joystick up/down to select "JOYSTICK CALIB".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm and enter the "JOYSTICK CALIB" menu. "PAN LEFT" will be displayed. Move the joystick to its extreme left position and hold it there, then press [ENT] to finish "PAN LEFT" calibration. The menu will proceed to the next item.
Follow the procedure for "PAN LEFT" to calibrate "PAN RIGHT", "TILT UP", and "TILT DOWN".
"ZOOM TELE" calibrating menu: Twist the joystick clockwise to its limit position and press [ENT].
"ZOOM WIDE" calibrating menu: Twist the joystick anti-clockwise to its limit position and press [ENT].
"FREE STATE" setting menu: No operation is required; simply press [ENT] to confirm.
Upon completion of the above settings, "<SAVE> CANCEL" will be displayed. Move the joystick left/right to choose between SAVE and CANCEL, and press [ENT] to confirm.

4.8 Speed Setting

Set the control speed of the joystick.

Move the joystick up/down to choose "SPEED SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] to enter the "SPEED SETTING" menu. Move the joystick up/down to switch among speed levels, and move the joystick right or press [ENT] to confirm.

4.9 Default Setting

Restore the keyboard settings to factory defaults.

Move the joystick up/down to choose "DEFAULT SETTING".
Move the joystick right or press [ENT] key, enter "DEFAULT SETTING" menu, move the joystick left/right, select options "<YES> NO", press [ENT] to confirm.

Warranty

Marshall Electronics warranties to the first consumer that this device will, under normal use, be free from defects in workmanship and materials, when received in its original container, for a period of three years from the purchase date. This warranty is extended to the first consumer only, and proof of purchase is necessary to honor the warranty. If there is no proof of purchase provided with a warranty claim, Marshall Electronics reserves the right not to honor the warranty set forth above. Therefore, labor and parts may be charged to the consumer. This warranty does not apply to the product exterior or cosmetics. Misuse, abnormal handling, alterations or modifications in design or construction void this warranty. No sales personnel of the seller or any other person is authorized to make any warranties other than those described above, or to extend the duration of any warranties on behalf of Marshall Electronics, beyond the time period described above.
