02 Safety requirements
To ensure proper use, please read through this manual before using the processor. It is specially important that you know the WARNINGS and CAUTIONS contained here.
- The installation of this product must be done by a qualified professional.
- Use the correct tools for installing this product.
- This product is for use with 12V batteries. Always check the voltage before installing.
- Never install the product in places exposed to dust, humidity and water. Pay attention to install it far from fuel tank, fuel lines, heat sources and other parts of vehicle.
- Be sure to install a protection fuse or a circuit breaker near the battery. Follow the ampere rating as indicated in this manual. Use of improper fuse or circuit breaker could result in overheat, smoke, damage to product, injury or burns.
- Avoid running wires over or through sharp edges. Use rubber or plastic grommets to protect any wires routed through the car's body.
- Automotive sound systems may produce high sound pressure levels. Avoid continuous exposure to levels over 85dB to prevent permanent hearing loss.
02 Important recommendations
The wire gauge for power supply connections is 1.5mm² (15 AWG) for positive and negative wires, and 0.50mm² (20 AWG) for the remote signal wire.
For protection against overload, install a fuse on the positive wire, close to the battery terminal (1A). See page 12.
- Power supply negative: Connect to the negative pole of the battery.
- Remote signal input: Connect to the remote signal output from the head unit.
- Remote output: For connection in amplifiers.
- Power supply positive: Connect to the positive pole (12V) of the battery.
02 Safety
As you read this manual, pay attention to the safety symbols.
[!] CAUTION This symbol with "CAUTION" is intended to alert the user to the presence of important instructions. Failure to heed the instructions will result in risk of injury to user or product damage.
Taramps reserves the right to modify the contents of this document at any time without prior notice and does not have the obligation to apply the changes in units which were previously produced.
03 Processor Overview
The PRO 2.4S is a digital audio processor with multiple functions for car audio systems. It features inputs for low-level (RCA) and high-level (speaker output) signals. The high-level input can also trigger the processor automatically, eliminating the need for a separate remote wire in most cases.
Front Panel Description:
The front panel includes:
- LCD Display: Shows current settings and menu options.
- Rotary Encoder: Used for navigating menus, selecting options, and adjusting parameters.
- Select/Mute Keys: Used for selecting outputs and muting individual channels.
- Input Clip LED Indicator: Illuminates when the input signal is reaching maximum level and causing distortion. Reduce source volume if this occurs.
- Limiter/Clip LEDs: Indicate when the signal on an output has reached maximum level or when the limiter is active.
- Input Ports: RCA signals (A & B) for low-level input, and High Level Input (A & B) for high-level input from speaker outputs.
- Output Ports: Signal outputs 1 through 4.
- Power Supply Connectors: For connecting the 12V DC power supply.
- REM (Remote) Terminal: For remote turn-on signal.
- GND (Ground) Terminal: For ground connection.
Note on Triggering: While the system is designed for automatic triggering via input signal, some head units may not provide the correct output circuit. In such cases, use the REMOTE wire for triggering.
03 Screens & basic operation
Initial Setup: When turned on for the first time, the processor prompts for language selection. Use the rotary encoder to choose the desired language (Portuguese, English, or Spanish) and confirm with a quick touch on the encoder's center.
Volume Control: Turning the encoder knob (clockwise or counterclockwise) adjusts the master volume (Input volume).
04 Output selection keys
Individual Gain Adjustment: A quick touch (click) on each output key (1 to 4) allows adjustment of the individual gain for that output.
Individual Mute: Press an output key (1 to 4) for 1 second to mute the sound for that output. Press again for 1 second to unmute.
Menu Access: A quick click on the center of the encoder accesses the MAIN MENU and its functions.
Return to Previous Screen: A long touch (1 second) on the center of the encoder returns to the previous menu or the initial screen.
10 Audio Generator
The PRO 2.4S includes a sine wave generator with variable frequency and amplitude.
Modes:
- Fixed Frequency: Generator with frequency (10Hz to 22KHz) and amplitude (-60dB to 0dB) adjustments. When activated, the signal is sent to all outputs, allowing real-time adjustment of other functions.
- Sweep (Slow/Medium/Fast): Performs a signal sweep between user-defined initial and final frequencies. The sweep repeats continuously until turned OFF. Three sweep speeds are available. Diagrams show the generator interface for both modes.
10 Language
Choose the desired language: Portuguese, English, or Spanish.
10 Save config & 11 Load config
Save Config: Allows choosing a memory location and assigning a name to the current settings. Select memory, switch to text editing via encoder, select letters, and confirm. To erase, use "<" and a quick touch. Finish editing and save by placing the cursor after the last character and long-pressing the encoder.
Load Config: Load a previously saved configuration or the factory default settings. Select the desired memory via encoder and confirm. Selecting "FACTORY SETTINGS" will erase all user-saved settings.
11 Password / lock
Allows locking the processor with a 4-digit password (default: 1234). A padlock icon [🔒] will appear on the screen. A password will be required to access settings.
Reset to Factory Settings: If the password is lost, turn on the processor while simultaneously pressing keys 1, 2, and the center of the encoder. This will erase user settings and reset the product to initial setup.
11 Presets EQ
The PRO 2.4S features 12 preset equalizers. Select the music style to apply the equalization curve:
- FLAT
- LOUDNESS
- BASS BOOST
- MID-BASS BOOST
- TREBLE BOOST
- POWERFUL
- ELECTRONIC
- ROCK STYLE
- HIP-HOP STYLE
- POP MUSIC
- VOCAL
- COMPETITION
11 Text message
Defines a text of up to 15 alphanumeric characters to be displayed as a screen saver animation. Enable the function by selecting ON, then go to text editing. Rotate the encoder to select letters and click to move to the next character. Use "<" to erase. Finish editing and save by placing the cursor after the last character and long-pressing the encoder. The text will animate on the screen after a few seconds of inactivity.
12 Connecting Processor Inputs and Outputs
This section illustrates the typical connection of the PRO 2.4S in a car audio system.
Connections:
- Head Unit: Connects to the processor's inputs via RCA or High Level wires.
- Processor Inputs: RCA (A, B) for low-level signals, High Level (A, B) for high-level signals.
- Processor Outputs: Outputs 1-4 connect to amplifiers for Subwoofers, Low Mid, High Mid, and High frequency speakers respectively.
- Power Supply: Connect to the vehicle's 12V battery (positive and negative terminals) using appropriate gauge wire (1.5mm² / 15 AWG recommended). A 1A fuse on the positive terminal is recommended for protection.
- Remote Connection: The 'REM' terminal on the processor connects to the head unit's remote output for power-on signal.
The diagram shows a Head Unit connected to the PRO 2.4S processor, which then connects to amplifiers driving different types of speakers (Subwoofer, Low Mid, High Mid, High).
