Installation Instructions

Step 1-2: Initial Preparation

1. Remove flush plug.

2. Remove protective sleeve and apply grease (N) to the O-Ring (B2) and inside of the valve bore.

Diagram shows removing a plug and a sleeve, then applying grease from a packet (N) to an O-ring and the inside of a valve opening.

Step 3-4: Installing the Tub Spout

1. For model A1: Install the tub spout (A) upside down onto the pipe.

1. For model A2: Use the 3/32" hex wrench (M) to loosely screw the set screw (L) into the spout screw hole. Then, install the tub spout (A2) upside down onto the pipe.

2. Barely tighten the tub spout set screw (L) with the 3/32" hex wrench (M).

Diagrams show inserting the tub spout onto a pipe, either directly or with a set screw, and then lightly tightening the set screw with a hex wrench.

Step 5-6: Securing the Tub Spout

1. Rotate the tub spout (A) to the proper position, ensuring the spout opening faces down.

2. Secure the spout by tightening the tub spout set screw.

Diagrams show rotating the spout to the correct downward-facing position and then fully tightening the set screw.

Step 7-8: Valve and Cartridge Installation

1. Remove flush plug before applying grease.

2. Apply grease to the outer O-ring and inside of the valve bore using the grease pack (N).

Diagram shows removing a plug and applying grease to an O-ring and valve bore.

Valve Orientation Note: 1215 Cartridge posts should always face up, regardless of valve orientation. Caution: The 1215 Cartridge is NON-Pressure Balancing and not for use in showering applications.

Diagrams illustrate the correct orientation of the cartridge posts facing upwards within the valve body.

1. Align the tab on the Installation sleeve (B) facing up and place it in line with the valve. Push the Adapter (B2) and puck (B6) out of the installation sleeve (B1) into the valve until they bottom.

2. Align the 2 posts on the cartridge (C) to the mating feature in the adapter and push the cartridge into the valve until it stops.

3. Tighten the cartridge nut (E) onto the valve by turning it clockwise until hand tight, then turn an additional 1/4 turn with a wrench. (Proper torque is 106-115 in-lbs or 12-13 Nm).

Diagrams show aligning the sleeve with the valve, pushing the adapter and puck into the valve, inserting the cartridge, and tightening the cartridge nut.

Step 9-10: Water Supply and Flushing

1. Use the handle (K) to verify the cartridge is closed (push handle down to close).

2. Turn on the hot and cold water supply and check for leaks.

Diagrams show operating the handle to close the cartridge and then turning on water to check for leaks.

1. Remove the stream straightener (Q) with the tool (R) for flushing.

2. Turn on hot and cold water and flush any debris for 15 seconds. Turn off hot and cold water.

3. Re-insert the stream straightener into the spout and tighten with the aerator tool.

Diagrams show using a tool to remove the stream straightener, flushing the system, and then re-installing and tightening it.

Step 11: Testing Hot Water Temperature

Open the handle to full hot to test hot water temperature. Close the handle if the desired water temperature has been met. Hot water temperature should not exceed 120°F (49°C).

Diagram shows the handle in the full hot position and indicates the maximum safe temperature of 120°F (49°C).

To reduce maximum temperature, go to Step 9.1. If not, go to Step 11.

Step 12: Adjusting Maximum Temperature Limit

1. Close and remove the handle (K).

2. Remove the adjustable temperature limit stop (D).

3. Install the adjustable temperature limit stop (D) so it is in contact with the bottom of the stop on the left side of the cartridge (C), as shown in the inset.

Diagrams show removing the handle, removing a grey plastic limit stop (D), and then installing it correctly onto the cartridge (C) with an inset showing the precise placement.

Step 13-14: Installing Trim Components

1. Slide sleeve (F) onto the valve until it stops and orient markings downward.

2. Push mounting plate (G) onto the sleeve until it bottoms on the wall and align holes to the threaded holes in the valve.

3. Orient the snap ring (H) to the mounting plate (G) as shown, with the "FRONT" text facing forward and upright.

4. Insert screws (I) (x2) through the snap ring (H) and mounting plate (G) and secure them to the valve until the mounting plate bottoms on the finished wall. Do not overtighten.

5. Ensure the snap ring is centered on the sleeve for proper escutcheon placement. If off-center, loosen screws, reposition, and secure.

Diagrams illustrate sliding the sleeve, pushing the mounting plate, orienting the snap ring with the 'FRONT' marking, and securing the plate with screws.

1. Orient the slots in the backside of the escutcheon (J) with the tabs on the top and bottom of the snap ring (H).

2. Snap the escutcheon (J) onto the snap ring (H).

3. Ensure the escutcheon (J) is centered on the sleeve (F) and markings are level.

4. Place the handle (K) onto the cartridge stem.

Diagrams show aligning the escutcheon with the snap ring, snapping it into place, and then placing the handle onto the cartridge stem.

For multi-piece handle designs:

1. Fully snap handle hub assembly (P) into the sleeve.

2. Position the hub as shown with the adapter parallel to the cartridge stem.

3. Place handle (O) onto the cartridge stem.

Diagrams illustrate the steps for installing a multi-piece handle, including snapping the hub assembly and positioning it before placing the main handle.

Turn on water supply.

Diagram shows turning on the water supply.

Step 15-16: Final Handle Attachment and Completion

1. Insert the 3/32" hex wrench (M) into the set screw (L).

2. Tighten the set screw into the handle (K).

Installation complete.

Diagrams show inserting the hex wrench into the set screw on the handle and tightening it. A final image indicates installation is complete.
