Shelly Pro Dual Cover/Shutter PM User and Safety Guide
Product Introduction
Shelly® devices are innovative microprocessor-managed devices that enable remote control of electric circuits via mobile phone, tablet, PC, or home automation systems. They can operate standalone on a local Wi-Fi network or through cloud home automation services. Shelly Cloud is accessible via Android or iOS mobile applications or any internet browser at https://control.shelly.cloud/. Devices can be accessed, controlled, and monitored remotely from any location with internet connectivity, provided they are connected to a Wi-Fi router and the internet. Shelly® devices feature an Embedded Web Interface accessible directly or via the device's IP address on the local network.
Shelly® devices can communicate directly with other Wi-Fi devices via HTTP protocol. An API is provided by Allterco Robotics EOOD. For more information, visit https://shelly-api-docs.shelly.cloud/#shelly-family-overview.
Devices are delivered with factory-installed firmware. Allterco Robotics EOOD provides free firmware updates for conformity and security via the device's Embedded Web Interface or the Shelly mobile application. Users are solely responsible for installing updates.
Shelly® Pro Series
The Shelly® Pro series is designed for homes, offices, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, and other buildings. Shelly® Pro devices are DIN rail mountable, ideal for new construction, and can be controlled and monitored via Wi-Fi and LAN connections. Bluetooth can be used for the inclusion process.
The Shelly Pro Dual Cover/Shutter PM is a DIN rail mountable dual cover smart controller with power measurement capabilities.
Installation Instructions
CAUTION! Danger of electrocution. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician with caution. Ensure no voltage is present at the terminals before making any connections. Use the device only with power grids and appliances that comply with all applicable regulations. Avoid short circuits and do not connect appliances exceeding the specified maximum load.
General Precautions:
- Connect the device only as shown in the instructions.
- Do not install the device where it can get wet.
- Allow at least 10 mm (0.4 in) of space around each Pro device if expecting currents higher than 5 A per channel.
- Plug/unplug the LAN cable only when the device is powered off. The LAN cable must not have metallic parts accessible to the user.
- Use solid single-core cables or stranded cables with ferrules. Cables should have insulation with increased heat resistance (not less than PVC T105°C / 221°F).
- The load current circuit must be secured by a cable protection switch in accordance with EN60898-1 (tripping characteristic B or C, max. 16 A rated current, min. 6 kA interrupting rating, energy limiting class 3).
Before installation, turn off breakers and verify there is no voltage on terminals using a phase tester or multimeter.
Modes of Operation
The Shelly Pro Dual Cover/Shutter PM can control each cover independently in three modes: Detached, Single Input, or Dual Input. For simplicity, this guide explains modes for both covers operating identically, but they can be configured differently.
1. Detached Mode
Outputs are controlled via Web Interface or mobile application only. Connected buttons/switches cannot control motor rotation but can trigger URL actions.
Connections (Refer to Fig. 1 a): Connect N to Neutral, L to power supply breaker. Connect common motor terminal/cable to Neutral. Connect motor direction terminals/cables (via circuit breakers) to the ▲ and ▼ direction terminals for each cover.
2. Single Input Mode
Allows control via connected buttons or switches. If configured as a button, each press cycles open, stop, close, stop. If configured as a switch, each toggle cycles open, stop, close, stop.
Connections (Refer to Fig. 1 b for button, Fig. 1 c for switch): Connect N to Neutral, L to power supply breaker. Connect common motor terminal/cable to Neutral. Connect motor direction terminals/cables (via circuit breakers) to the ▲ and ▼ direction terminals. Connect buttons/switches to S1 and S3 terminals (and their respective circuit breakers).
2a. Single Input Mode with Safety Switch Functionality
Safety switches can stop movement until disengaged or a command is sent, potentially resuming movement in the opposite direction. They can also stop and immediately reverse movement.
Connections (Refer to Fig. 1 d for button, Fig. 1 e for switch): Connect N to Neutral, L to power supply breaker. Connect common motor terminal/cable to Neutral. Connect motor direction terminals/cables (via circuit breakers) to the ▲ and ▼ direction terminals. Connect control buttons/switches to S1 and S3, and safety switches to S2 and S4 (with their respective circuit breakers).
3. Dual Input Mode
Provides separate control for each direction using buttons or switches.
Connections (Refer to Fig. 1 f for button, Fig. 1 g for switch): Connect N to Neutral, L to power supply breaker. Connect common motor terminal/cable to Neutral. Connect motor direction terminals/cables (via circuit breakers) to the ▲ and ▼ direction terminals. Connect buttons/switches to S1, S2, S3, and S4 terminals (and their respective circuit breakers).
Button Operation: Pressing a button moves the cover in the corresponding direction until the endpoint. Pressing the same direction button again stops it. Pressing the opposite direction button reverses movement.
Switch Operation: Turning a switch ON moves the cover to the endpoint. Turning it OFF stops movement. If both direction switches are ON, the last engaged switch is respected. Turning off the last engaged switch stops movement.
Obstacle Detection
The device can detect obstacles, stopping or reversing movement if configured. Sensitivity is adjustable via device settings.
Recommendation: Even with obstacle detection enabled, maintain direct visual contact with the cover during operation.
RC Snubbers
To prevent voltage spikes when switching bi-directional motors, connect two RC snubbers (0.1μF / 100Ω / 1/2W / 600V AC) between the common and direction terminals of the motor (Refer to Fig. 2). RC snubbers can be purchased at www.shelly.cloud/en/products/product-overview/rc-snubber.
Initial Inclusion
The Shelly Pro Dual Cover/Shutter PM can be used standalone or with various home automation platforms. Instructions for connecting to Shelly Cloud via the mobile app are available in the mobile application guide. The app and cloud service are not required for the device to function.
CAUTION: Keep devices for remote control (phones, tablets, PCs) away from children. Do not allow children to play with connected buttons/switches.
Display (Fig. 3)
The LCD display provides status information:
- Top Bar: Displays Time, Bluetooth connection status (icon indicates enabled/disabled), LAN status (connected/disconnected), Wi-Fi STA status, Wi-Fi AP status, and Cloud status (connected/disconnected).
- Main Display: Shows the status of two covers. Each cover is represented by a name (e.g., COVER 0, COVER 1), a slider visualizing its position, and a notification area showing the position in percentage or an event icon (e.g., calibration, obstruction, overvoltage, overcurrent, overpower). Events are also transcribed next to cover names.
User Buttons
Press and hold the OK button to access the menu. Use Up/Down buttons to navigate and OK to select.
- MAIN: Return to the main screen.
- NETWORK: Enable/disable Wi-Fi AP, Wi-Fi STA, Ethernet, Bluetooth.
- STATUS: Check device status.
- MAINTENANCE: Perform Wi-Fi reset, factory reset, or reboot.
Pressing OK selects a menu item. Holding OK in a submenu returns to the previous level.
